What is the different between Assistant GPS & Normal GPS?
What kind of chipset N82 use? Does it SIRF III?
But I found out that it can lock satellite quiet fast (with in 10-15 seconds) with is very good.
How bout the accuracy compare with well know GPS (ie: Gramin).

Thanks.
*
A-GPS (Assisted GPS) means u are not only using navigation satelite to know where u are, but u are also using Base Stations (transmitter) of ur GSM/UMTS to find your location. there is a fee for using A-GPS because u are transmitting GPRS data to the stations for your triangulations. Where as Normal GPS is FOC even if you use it 24hrs a day. rclxms.gif

For the chipset i am not sure myself. Maybe there the same with Nokia LD-4W Wireless GPS Module.

Locking may vary depends where you are. Cold fix may take 1 minute. for your 10-15 seconds it is hot fix. meaning the gps knows from your previous location, what satelite to look for. try a turning it on somewhere far. when u balik kampong maybe...

Accuaracy of GPS in theory now is 10m. However my previous experience with Garmin, if u can get more than 7 sat at a time, u maybe able to go below this. Max sat at a time can be seen in Malaysia is 9 sats will give u accuracy of 1m and below. Have yet to get the oppurtunity to try it with N82.

With the Garmin GPS, there is an averaging function where the longer u stay the more accurate your position is by taking average reading.

QUOTE(Seaedge @ Dec 28 2007, 10:20 AM)
the more details in a picture, the bigger it will be. could i say the compression in N82 caused the differences? I havent test n82 photo yet.
*
Its not necessarily due to compression. You see, when u take picture, the subject and background is important. The more the colour it has, the more details (lines, shapes, writtings etc etc) it has, the more information is needed to contruct the image i.e. bigger image size. If u take a picture of a single coloured, no lines, no details the size would be smaller. eq. white piece of A4 paper

hope that helps... thumbup.gif

hmm.gif How to check how many satelite connect?
*
With nokia maps,

OPTIONS -> MAP OPTIONS -> SATELLITE INFO

You will see the number of the sat u are connected to and signal strength. 2, 8, 12, 20....etc etc is the sat number. just count them.

With Garmin Mobile XT,
It is rather weird that i cannot find sat info in Garmin. All the previous Garmin models i tried, must have.

or you can try
Tool -> Connnectivity -> GPS Data -> Position -> Options -> Satellite Status

Hope that helps thumbup.gif

Memory Full Error

Hi guys,

Today I keep facing this problem. When I want to open HELP options from any applications I will get an error message Memory Full 2.
Does it mean my memory is full? But when I display show memory, it display 114MB Free Memory & I only running 2 apps on background.
1) Active standby
2) SMS Schedule
Anyone can help me on this?
Does we still need apps like Task Manager for N82 as I tot memory management is better on our phone.

Thanks.

Which free memory is 114MB ? must be RAM is free.

To see your memory and other status, download Device Status from Nokia. U can see how many free RAM u have. Download the phone (.sis) version here

http://www.nokia.com/A4596393

After dnload u can clarify how much RAM is free. I have checked, the helps files only use 1MB RAM.

Hope it helps rclxms.gif

i agree on the black casing rationale.

Anyways, it is available 15 Feb 2008. Another 1 and half months for nokia elsewhere. Nokia Malaysia make it mac. coz they sure will be late as always.

Why wait that long for something you can enjoy now.... but if people want to wait, let them. own choice.

IMHO eventhough i like black, the picture shown in the page, is not that wow to wait for.

clsia1001 thanks man. Anyone have same problem with the N82 like me???

Cure? Play with your N82 more. thumbup.gif

IMO think we should change the thread tagline. We follow the nokia official tagline

Nokia N82. Story telling rediscovered.

any suggestions?

Played with this phone before. I had to admit it is something great. It is the BEST phone from Nokia available today.
Other phone like N95 and N81 are only made to catch the dust of N82
icon_idea.gif A lil'bit better than N95 8Gb also. Once you hold best phone like N82, other phone like N81 is nothing.  biggrin.gif  Maybe I will get one soon.  rclxms.gif  thumbup.gif  laugh.gif  icon_rolleyes.gif  notworthy.gif  wink.gif  rclxms.gif

Dont say catch dust lah.... Not much difference. for N95 i guess the small RAM makes it slower.

But for N95 8GB and N82, the difference would be in the flash and screen size.

I personally chose N82 bcoz candybar design. I am not a slider phone fan.

2 more differences i forgot to mention between N95-8GB and N82. The Lense cover and the price.

N95-8GB is a good buy also. I nearly bought myself one. After seeing and waiting a year N95, then got black edition built in 8GB and got spiderman3 somemore. the looks is 2x wow than the N95. But as i said, i chose N82 because of candybar. Compare the picture of the black N82 is not so wow. IMHO not worth waiting for.

shgx700 - go to Nokia Center (but not all, sunway pyramid can. but need to check they have stock first.) Buy it at RM2599. got 0% installments for 12 months. same thing buying ori cash can get 2.3k-2.5k. IMHO buy ori. u chunk out 2k of your hard earned money tapi u are afraid day n night bcoz its AP. why not add a bit more and rest assured it has zitron warranty. not a cheap thing to take a risk. if RM600 hp can la....

BUY BUY BUY

digital camera ~500
digicam dvd ~1599
hand held gps ~1200
pda with doc reader and wifi ~1500
...... the list goes on.

can get RM2k++??

Depends. If u take care of your phone. U put it gently down every time. Slide it gently everytime. take good care of it like an egg, it will last. at least up to the point u can buy another phone.

Good News Guys.
I have had time today to run away from my boss and do some testing. Here are the results......

Accuracy

Number of Sat

Added on January 3, 2008, 11:42 amA-GPS is used each time you dont get a fix or u loose your fix.

Each time u on ur GPS it sends A-GPS.

Eventhough your gps is on and you got fix, then u move to an area where u loose your fix the thing sends A-GPS again.

Meaning from KL to your home, if you loose fix for 10 times, A-GPS is 10x.

I have tried and check, for each time A-GPS i am charged 6-8 sens. thats alot if x10.

No need for A-GPS un less u r speedracer and need position fix very fast.

hope that helps.

Thats the best i can get. 9m. not for long. it keeps fluactuating between 9-11m. Accuracy depends on what time of day it is, where u are and your surroundings.

QUOTE(bhorng @ Jan 3 2008, 11:49 AM)
What do you mean by this "Meaning from KL to your home, if you loose fix for 10 times, A-GPS is 10x.

I have tried and check, for each time A-GPS i am charged 6-8 sens. thats alot if x10.
" Is this mean, everytime you switch satelite, you will be charge? or each time if you turn it back on, and you will received charges?

Confuse here.. So sorry for the question.
*
You may loose fix under the following "driving" conditions,
1. U are stuck under a big tree during jam.
2. u go under a bridge or roundabout(eq. near Jln Tun Razak and Jln Loke Yew)
3. u go inside a tunnel (eq. smart)
etc etc.

For 3D positioning u need at least 4 sat. Changing sat DO NOT necessiraly mean that u loose fix as long as u have that min 4 sat. Loosing fix means not enough sat and info to calculate your location.

as i said, if u drive from kl to your home, go inside tunnel, under flyovers, etc, and you find your self loosing your fix, then A-GPS would send GPRS data to know what area u are in. each time for loosing your fix and using A-GPS u are charged.

lets say a scenario where you get a total of 10 loose fix going under bridge tunnel etc etc, so A-GPS charges x10.

OK?

QUOTE(Jeffery @ Jan 3 2008, 11:50 AM)
nice info over there ^^ in that case n82's GPS is pretty good rite? but i read the review from gsmarena it says the GPS in n82 is pretty bad compare to other devices which has built in GPS is it true?
*
I have not tried other devices with built in GPS, so i dont know. but my bet is if you want better, go for GPS with more than 8 channels

Hope that helps
