Btw, any particular recommendation for the 8GB SanDisk microSD card and what is the estimated price at this moment?

Have you try to burn those video into a DVD?? How is the quality compare to real DVD quality movie? I heard that the video shoot using the N82 will be able to convert into DVD movie easily using software like Nero but have not try and not sure whether the MP4 compression will cause any loss in quality..but did play around with one unit before..seen like the quality playback on the phone looks ok..but not sure about how is it looks like when playback in computer or DVD player..Any Sifu did tried on this before? one main reason why I am consider N82 is because of it has the best video recording(don't compare with LG viewty which able to shoot at 120fps) with DVD video quality.. else I may thinking of buying another handy viewcam instead..cause my old viewcam battery already die.. shakehead.gif
*
hmm... phone is a "losing" investment, like a car. Always depreciate. sweat.gif But I consider it a reward to myself as motivation. Maybe you can get one and film the baby when it is born. Hope your wife doesn't browse LYN sweat.gif

I expect the SanDisk microSD 8GB at around RM155-175 range in PC Fair Apr'08.

Nope, never convert to DVD, just copy and keep in PC. I think N82 records video in 640x480 resolution, which looks quite ok to me. Quality cannot compare to movie/videocam.

Viewing full res picture on TV = ok
Viewing video in 34" TV = jagged and looks jerky... but still can view what's happening. I would say not bad for adhoc video... for fun, etc.

icon_question.gif I want to buy a new phone and currently I'm looking at the N95 (not 8gb) and the N82.

1. AFAIK both are about the same price, so which one is better overall?
2. Both come in silver colour right, but can I later change it to another cover color?
Any downsides on both of these phones?
*
I was in this dilemma couple of months ago: N82 vs N95 not 8GB as both are near similiar price. Overall, I would say both phones are exactly the same except:

1) Candybar or slide ?
Which one you prefer ? I prefer candybar as I don't really like slide/flip phone. This is the main factor for me. N82 wins.

2) LED/Xenon flash ?
Doesn't matter for me, but since never try h/p with xenon flash, N82 wins by very small margin.

3) Keypad
N82 keypad is too small. N95 wins.
But after using for sometime, I got used to N82 keypad already.

4) Screen size
Larger the better, but eat more battery juice. N95 wins.
However, I can accept a smaller screen based on other advantages above.

The rest of comparison, like rotate screen, phone size/bulk, music playback, etc. I rate it as similiar based on my usage/preference.

Thanks cute_boboi for your opinion.

one thing i want to ask you, between n95 and n82 which has better sound? loudness?
*
I tried my friend N95 before I bought N82. Loudness same for speaker and the stereo-speaker, if both N95 & N82 condition, environment, speaker, mic, etc. in same level, at least to me.

Music/sound quality similiar. But there are arguments that N81 sound better than N82 and N95. There might be some ppl who says N95 sounds better, but if you check out the spec, both N82 and N95 has the same specs. The difference/preference may be due to environment, acoustic effects, personal biasness, etc.

I would rate N82 & N95 music/sound quality as same.

If you want loud voice/speaker for tel communication, get the 8250, 3310... tongue.gif

Forgot to answer your 2nd question:

QUOTE

If I'm not mistaken:

N95 comes in 3 colours only: Black, Bronze, Red
N95 colours

N82 in Titanium and Black (coming)
N82 colours

You can change the cover, by voiding the warranty and also the risk of damage parts. But if you take note, you need to change the keypad keys and side buttons (camera, volume, etc.) as well.

Need some advice:
Just switch to 3G network due to wanna try the video call on my Hotlink. The video quality received is so so which looks like some crappy VCD but that's not the problem.
The problem is there is only 3 to 4 bars out of the 7 bars show on the network meter sad.gif in my house, that'll drain my batt quite fast tho. Any solution?
*
Complain to Maxis about poor 3G signal in your area. Maxis should take action and call/email you whether they will improve it or not. My area is not under Maxis 3G/HSDPA improvement area in 2007 & 2008 sad.gif

If Maxis don't reply to you, complain to MCMC

Waduh... kesiannya... drop 4 ft. doh.gif Better to wrap it up with crystal casing, silicon case, skin wrap or something.

20x sent messages - you can set it in:
Messaging -> Settings -> Other -> Save sent messages = Yes

whoa... so it's true right the menu of i550 and n82 are almost the same??

but what about this stupid behavior...

The loudspeaker option will only activated after you have press the answer button. But that's not the end of it.. After you select the loudspeaker option.. then it will ask you for confirmation whether you really want to route the output through the speaker??!!! How stupid!!!!  mad.gif  mad.gif  mad.gif

Is it like that also on N82??  vmad.gif  vmad.gif  vmad.gif

From my observation N82, you need to press answer, then press loudspeaker, and auto-switch already. No need confirmation. 2 steps instead of 3 steps.

anyway.. N82 is also not smart enough lah then.. Since my sister's Nokia 5300 XpressMusic behave in such a way that the right/left key is automatically set to LOUDSPEAKER when there's an incoming call. Meaning that we only need to press once to activate the loudspeaker.. So convenient while you are driving..

Since we have already the ANSWER button.. Then why must the left/right key be set to ANSWER the phone as well?? Arghhhhhhhhh..........  vmad.gif  vmad.gif  vmad.gif  mad.gif

Yes, the older range of Nokia, when there is incoming call, the left button is "answer" and right button is "loudspeaker". One click only. thumbup.gif

Some tips from N82 Blog

QUOTE
*Did you know you can end an active data connection by holding down the Red Button on standby screen?

*Did you know there's a faster way to go back one page in the browser than to use the right soft key? Press 3.

*In gallery if you want to send a file, instead of scrolling through options then send, did you know you can just hit the green button to pop up the send menu?

*Did you know that pressing 5 will open the list of open windows in the browser when 2 or more windows are open?

*Did you know that on S60's in bar form, pressing the left soft key and then * locks the keypad?

Pretty handy right?

Here are a few more tips I'd like to add to this post...

- Holding down the pound key should put the N82 in the "Silent" profile, or silence the phone. This should work on all handsets, but I believe there are a few product codes that don't have this feature.

- When viewing a photo in the Gallery, the 5 key zooms in. You can use the D-pad to scroll around the image, than zoom more by pressing 5 again. The volume keys also do this same function. To zoom back out you push the 0 key. To delete an image quickly, push the "C" button.

- When your done writing your text or email, instead of hitting "options-send", you can just push the green call button.

Do you have any other tips not listed here? Leave a comment to share them.
QUOTE
You can also use "C" 2 delete msgs an files (wd d file manager).

- i use d hash key (#) 2 mark items. Example, i mark multiple images, or multple msgs, then pressing the "C" key wll delete them ol. Or mark several items 2 send via bluetooth.

N82 will support up to 32GB micro-SDHC. But currently only 8GB available. 16GB will come out around 3rd/4th Qtr 2008.

I think nothing computer related is cheap in 1U. Why not PC Fair (11-13 Apr), LowYat plaza or LowYat.net garage sale ?

may i know how to re-install firmware?

Easiest:
1) Install latest PC Suite in PC (WinXP)
2) Install latest Nokia Software Updater (NSU) in PC
3) Backup phone memory
4) Connect N82 to PC using USB cable (as PC Suite)
5) Run NSU and follow the instructions. Remember to set the phone in General mode.
6) Restore back the phone memory (contacts, sms, calendar, etc.)

Google to find the exact web link to download PCSuite & NSU, else read all the pages in this thread, it is posted here before.

hey guys... using N80 now.. but very lag la.. actually considering the n82 and n95 now.. which 1 is better le? any suggestions thx alotz ya ! wink.gif
*
I'm an ex-N80 user (look at my signature). My friend is using N95-biasa. I was wondering whether to get N82/N95 biasa/N95 tambah ayam goreng in Dec'07.

The processor speed for N80 = ~220Mhz and the rest stated above are ~330MHz (cannot recall actual speed, but around there). Once I upgraded, I feel it is much faster, especially during boot up. But after using for some time, I feel it is still lag. Maybe I should use PPC with 624MHz processor.

Anyway, it all depends on your preference:
1) Candybar/Slide ? I prefer candybar
2) Camera basically is the same engine. Do you prefer Xenon/LED flash ?
3) Internal Memory N95 < N82 < N95+ayam goreng
4) Screen size N82=2.4" N95=2.6" N95+ayam goreng=2.8"
5) Do you always listen to music ? View videos ?

There are some pros & cons
1) N82 keys very small
2) N95 has the worse battery life
3) No camera lens cover for N95+ayam goreng
4) N82 cannot stand at its side

Read back a few pages, and you can find out more...

ok... so does the phone shows any lagging? hw abt when surfing the web ? any memory leak problems ?thx !
*
Web = depends on your 3G/WiFi connection speed. But it does lag a bit in processing the page after download, compared to a PC.

Another point... most Nokia phones (N70, N73, N81, N82, N95, N95-8GB, etc.) are using 240x320 max screen resolution. The beauty about N80 is it is using 352x416. Therefore with N80 you can see the bigger page with less scrolling around. Of course, the pixels are smaller and the text/fonts are smaller due to the high resolution.

Also, using N80, I regularly encounter "out of memory" while browsing. With N82, I still encounter it, but not that frequent anymore.

N82 Memory leak = yes. It's the same as N80. Once in 1-3 weeks, I need to restart the phone.

noob question here
sorry if same question has been asked b4
i searched but cant find any result in this thread

my question is..what is the way to properly verify and test a new set of N82? test whether it's ori or AP...
*
Just off my mind:
- IMEI must be the same in phone *#06#, sticker behind, warranty card, box.
- Warranty card must come from Zitron/Avaxx/etc.
- Basically AP & Ori = same phone, just it didn't pass through SIRIM + sticker. Unless you bought a clone-N82 doh.gif

*
1) Did you install a lot of applications ?
2) Are there a lot of auto-start applications or background-process activated ? e.g. flip-silent, themes, screen-saver, shake-sms, etc.

My N82 took about 20-30 sec to boot up and another 10-15 sec to settle down. Installed around 5-10 applications, but only 1-2 will auto-start.
