How to Install Garmin Mobile XT and MalsingMaps

Download all of these first

1) Main Program

2) Audio

4) World Basemap

5) Malaysia & SG Map (June 2007 - Outdated but should be sufficient)

Download: gmapsuppMXT.zip
*You need to create a login first

Once you have all the files, we are set to go

1) Insert your memory card into your computer

2) From your computer, Run GarminMobileXTforSymbianS60_41060.exe and follow the instructions

3) From your computer, Run GarminMobileXTSupportFiles_4xxxx.exe and follow the instructions

4) From your computer, Run GarminMobileXTFreeBasemap_4xxxx.exe and follow the instructions

5) Insert your memory card into N82

6) It should auto install/run. If not, go to this directory and install the SIS file
<MCard>\Garmin\Apps\Symbian\res\GarminMobileXT.SIS

13) Insert your memory card into your computer

---Step 14 removed---

15) Extract gmapsuppMXT.zip, and copy gmapsupp.img into <MCard>\Garmin\

16) Insert your memory card into N82

17) Goto Application -> run GMobileXT

18) From the program, Goto Settings -> System -> Remote GPS -> Select 'Use Attached/Built-in GPS' -> Enable -> Done

How to search a location in MalsingMaps using Garmin Mobile XT

To find a road name or POI (point of interest)
1) Click on Where To?
2) Do NOT use Address to search, it will not work
3) Instead click on Food, Hotels... and click on Spell Name. Key in the place to search here
4) Other than that you can use the categorized to search too

If you can't find the road name or POI
1) Click on Where To?
2) Scroll down and use the Cities search
3) Search based on the Area name (e.g. Tmn Pusat Kepong or Damansara Damai)

Predictive Text Input issue with Garmin Mobile XT

After installing Garmin Mobile XT, the predictive text input will become abnormal. Once you press the # key to change the input method, the left and right direction key will auto select the word. You will not be able to browse through the sentence. In addition, the left select key will no longer accessible

Solution:
You need to hold the Menu button (switch task) and switch back to text inputing

Steps to getting the lastest All-In-One MalsingMaps (v2.15) and Unlock key for Garmin Mobile XT

1) Go to Malsingmaps and register your account

2) Easiest way to contribute: Find at least 2 POI (eg. Bank, Petrol Station, School, Good Restaurant, 7-11, etc etc)

3) To get the POI location. Run Garmin -> Tools -> Where am I -> Copy down Current location (eg. N03 0.162 E101 32.401)

4) Go to this section of forum Tracks, Waypoints & Feedbacks. From here select which region (eg. KL-R) and post your POI

5) Once you have posted your POI, copy down the link to your post and PM it to the mapper in charge. They are Jerome for Singapore/Johor, Wsian for Melaka/N Sembilan, Dynamix for Perak/Penang/Kedah/Perlis, Antyong for KL/Selangor/Pahang/Terengganu/Kelantan and BernGPS for East Malaysia. Don't PM to every mapper because they will get pissed and will ignore your request

6) The PM title should be your Card-ID. And the content should be the direct link to your post

7) From there, you have to wait. Give them 2 days. If by 2 days they don't respond, send them the same message again as reminder

8) They will then PM you with 2 Unlock code and allow you to download the latest map from here Malsing Maps 2.15 (Locked). After download, run the installer and paste the 2 unlock code

9) Copy the latest GMAPSUPP.IMG into your <MCard>\Garmin\

There are a few issues with N82 hard reset. The following sequence below will not hard reset properly

Off phone -> Press and Hold 3, *, Green Button (Call) -> On phone while holding the 3 buttons

These are the things I found missing after Hard Reset
1) Applications -> Dictionary
It will cause the Dictionary to give an error with the message
Dictionary word information missing. Install word database

Solution:
Download
-http://nds1.nokia.com/files/support/apac/p...ictionaryDB.zip
-Extract SimplifiedDictionaryDB.zip
-Copy the extracted private\101f9cfe folder into <MCard>\private\101f9cfe

2) 2 Ngage Demo Missing
Solution:
Can be fix, from the phone, go into Download option, and download again

3) Snake Missing
Solution:
Can be fix, from the phone, go into Download option, and download again
