Nowadays you can trade 1 lot with 100 shares, so 10.00 or 1.00 make no different.

10.00 you buy 10 lots equal to 10K, 1.00 stock you buy 100 lots, still equal to 10K, so what price or whether got split or not makes no different at all, as you can trade as low as 100 shares, which equivalent to 1K per lot only.

Yes, I bought Digi 200shares = 2 lots at RM4420, so you can buy in small lots instead of 1000 shares or 10 lots smile.gif

why AMMB ? is it because you're thinking the devidend alone is high?

Ammb is not well known as dividend counters.
In fact, its loan quality is one of the poorest among all the banks.

So it is vulnerably if economy situation deteoriate. Actually, financial instituitional is quite vulnerable in poor economy time due to nature of the industry (leverage). So loan/asset quality is the most important part.

Those experienced with 1997 crisis known AMMB was troubled by its NPL.

Don't mean it has no good future or not.

Just it is not well known as dividend play counter.

my 2 cents.

PBB is good in dividend and growth. One thing is a MUST for this counter: patience. It takes a long time to move.

i would say PBB would be a good buy for 2008 Q1
now 2009, it may take a long time atleast a year unless by luck
for anything significant in growth

hi all,

is it true that there will always be price adjustment after dividend ex-date ?

eg. before ex-date -> 10.30 , after ex-date -> 10.00

Afaik, price will be adjusted after capital repayment, like what happened to TM recently, but does this apply to dividend as well ?

many thanks notworthy.gif

Wow.... useful thread as my target is counters with high div as well as a buy & hold. Makes me realize how much effort full time investors must put in. Thinking of entering share market directly for the first time, but still v. nervous. So far am focusing on PBBANK, BJTOTO, YTL, Magnum, Mah Sing & Hicom. I'm limiting it to those with price <5 (except PBBANK!). Any thoughts/ other counters too look at?

You may want to consider GENTING, YTLPOWR, HAIO, MAYBULK, JTINTER, ZHULIAN. Those bold ones are paying sustainable yields.

Genting gives peanut dividends, how do you consider it a high yielding counter?

Soulsareworthless,

Dividends do not present only as cash, it's present in other forms as well. Unless you have invested in GENTING, you wouldn't know the perks you get as its shareholder.
