Some things are missing though... WiFi search (i'm assuming there's WiFi, coz if there isnt, they can just save their money and skip this model), the background search which is in the N95 8GB and N81 and calender...

Nokia must be mad if they're releasing this LOL!
Looks like a clone to me, well, namely N81 clone. Even if it IS a real Nokia model, well, looks more like a S40 instead of S60. Oh yeah, where's the xenon flash for sliders? This post has been edited by pigcat: Dec 21 2007, 12:11 AM |

Sliding down (i think) reveals the gaming buttons... seeing as how the music buttons are already on around the center below the screen...

the phone look although real.. but the OS is S40.... Nokia will put use S40 for their flagship?? I doubt so.. this one maybe is a new 5XXX or 6XXX will be more convincing instead of N96...
where is the light sensor of the phone? I don't see pencil key as well.. is Nokia going to make this phone as lower end N series with a S40? |

QUOTE(almattitude_v1 @ Dec 21 2007, 12:46 AM) Yeah I think the pretty sad thing is, Nokia starting to show the sign to drop support for the pencil key and maybe the irda port as well (it's damn useful for installing your remote control's code and can maybe can control astrol with the phone IMHO, N95 is the best design on a non touch-screen non QWERTY phone I've ever seen...Especially like the keypads and the navigation keys below the screen... |

If that pic is real then it's really a good design since the N95 is too bulky and this proto is slim.

Well well...Lookie here...
http://www.nokia.de/A4831082 And this... http://www.intomobile.com/2008/02/07/germa...ifications.html Not a typical Nokia product, eh? Should be something a little more stunning. German leak the spec first?? Looks like Nokia has some conflict internally? This post has been edited by pigcat: Feb 8 2008, 01:02 PM |

it came with 950mAh battery?? so can it stand at least 1day moderate/heavy usage??
even n95 8gb came 1200mAh battery n n81 with 1050mAh maybe becoz its proto model oni...nway, if this a real n96, too bad..the design is good but too much similiar with n81,,thus no design "tersendiri" for the new flagship model... hope they added xenon n give better battery capacity |

the specs are quite good....but still hope nokia will release latest flagship with unique design so that within instant and glance..ppl can notice it its a new phone....but seriously 950mAh dont seem enough to juice up the phone with those specs unless they are using new tech in battery development

Nokia gives you more directions
By Darius Chang Feb 11, 2008 SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA--Let's face it, unless you are born with a map and compass built-in at birth, the increasingly larger urban landscape will eventually get you lost. Nokia's new range of four handsets, however, will help you find your way using a combination of GPS and its upgraded mapping software. The event--Showcase Nokia 2008--is held in conjunction with the company's press conference in Barcelona at the annual Mobile World Congress. Nokia N96 Unlike other mobile navigation applications, which are geared for vehicular navigation, Nokia Maps 2.0 Beta features a new mode--Walk--which, coupled with the GPS hardware, is accurate enough for those who prefer to travel by foot. Integrated into the program are city guides which display prominent points of interest and, in some regions, even provide reservation details and other information. Maps 2.0 Beta is the first major revision since the application was launched a year ago. Previously, the software was available only in semi-public beta. According to the Finnish phone-maker, it plans to also release an S40 version of Maps which will be ready in the first-half of 2008. Nokia Maps 2.0 Beta is available for download here. Navigation is not the only trick Nokia is offering with its new GPS-enabled phones. Like the HTC TyTN II, the N96 and N78 can meta-tag images with GPS data which can then be used to project the exact location the photo was taken on applications such as Google Earth. But if all you need is an online place to share your vacation pictures, Nokia's new Share on Ovi service offers unlimited storage and upload traffic. So which are the new devices which will be using these new services? They are the Nokia N96, N78, 6220 classic and 6210 Navigator. The Nokia N96 is an upgrade of the award-winning N95 with a whopping 16GB of internal storage space. Realizing that the entertainment needs of the consumer have shifted from sound to sight, the additional space comes in good stead for storing videos and high-resolution images taken with its 5-megapixel camera. The N78, unlike the sliding N96, uses a candy-bar form factor and a smaller display. However, it is not content to be a poor cousin to Nokia's flagship model and adds an integrated FM transmitter to the mix. This allows the handset to stream music directly to a car's built-in stereo setup without having to deal with Bluetooth pairing or messy dongles. The 6220 Classic, at first glance, looks like an entry-level phone, but under its hood lies a GPS chip and an impressive 5-megapixel camera module. It comes with A-GPS functionality which makes use of an assistance server such as a cell phone tower to help the handset identify the satellites to connect to, reducing the time required for a GPS fix. The 6210 Navigator is Nokia's first handphone with an integrated compass. It also uses a built-in accelerometer in a novel way. By detecting the changes in direction and orientation, it works in conjunction with the compass to keep the map oriented in the direction of travel, a tool especially useful for backpackers who prefer to travel on foot. With the exception of the N78, which will start shipping in Q2 2008, the other handsets should be making their way to stores by the third quarter of this year. -------------------------- taken from http://asia.cnet.com/reviews/mobilephones/...62037587,00.htm |

Wow...looks like an official photoshoped photo by Nokia, so it's real...Now who want to buy N95 8GB you can hold on and consider upgrade to 16GB and big plus of having microSD expansion!
However, however...You might want to consider the fact that N95 8GB has way better battery life...Nokia must be crazy to repeat the same old mistake again... By the way where's the gallery button?? That's the button I press the most within all the side keys...And front camera?? This post has been edited by pigcat: Feb 11 2008, 06:28 PM |

Don't ask me how I know, THIS IS NOT A FACT, so just read it as a reference. I am not so sure about every details but here is what i know.
Previously all Nokia Symbian platform is running on Texas Instruments OMAP processor. Nokia N95, Nokia N95 8G and Nokia N82 all running on Texas Instruments OMAP2420 processor which integrated ARM1136 processor (330 MHz). Rumors had it that the new Nokia N96 will not be using the OMAP processor anymore in conjunction with Nokia change of policy to source the components for its phones from different vendor rather than only one. Rumors also suggesting that the new Nokia N96 will probably using the STn8815 Nomadik processor from STMicroelectronics. I dig further into the STn8815 Nomadik processor datasheet from the internet and found out that the STn8815 processor only has a integrated ARM926EJ processor. I compare the ARM1136 and ARM926 processor specifications from ARM website and clearly ARM1136 is a better and more advance processor. I have no idea why Nokia decided to downgrade the processor for their latest N96 phone (to save battery life maybe?). We will just wait until the real phone is out in the market to make the final judgment. |

The thing that's worth mentioning is that the 4 multi function buttons during landscape mode. It'll change its icon during game or media playing. Also the media keys around the dpad, icons will be off if slide into landscape position.
Ya if it was 1950mAh, this will be another killer phone...How sad... |

when nokia launched a perfect phone, they basically kill off all their other phone models. N96 wont be a perfect or even close to that

n96 has so little improvement compared to n95 8gb....actually,i was hopin nokia would come on with something new..but it seems like the only added function is dvbh and larger memory pool, but lower battery...how can u watch tv with that amount of battery?in my opinion, nokia should release n96 with vga resolution display,8 megapixel with xenon flash, and tv tuner(some china phone has this feature where u can watch tv for free),not dvbh tv where u hv to pay to watch tv....

I'd prefer a super sharp and vibriant 5MP photos than so so 7/8MP. 5MP is IMHO actually more than enough for casual shots. You'd probably going to resize to 1024x768 than sending full size photo to your friends anyway. Also smaller size picture means faster picture processing and more photos for the same storage size. |

First, let's don't jump into conclusion so fast whether or not there is any improvement between N95 8G and N96. What you see is only on paper, you haven't use the phone yet, so let's just be fair to all parties. Of cause we consumer want everything the best, VGA resolution display, 8 MP camera, etc...but we must also think from the design n application engineers point of view, to include so much into such a small form factor is already incredible, so don't push it. Although we can always argue that those are not our problem and since we consumers are the one who is paying the $$$, they should find a way to deliver what the consumer required. But hey, they didn't really put a gun at our head to ask us buy their product either right? If you read my post previously, you probably already know that the N96 might be using a new processor which is different from N95/N95 8G/N82. N95/N95 8G/N82 are using Texas Instruments OMAP2420 processor while the new N96 might be using STMicroelectronics Nomadik STn8815 processor. I do a bit digging into these two processors and found out the following differences: OMAP2420 CPU: ARM1136 at 330MHz Power Management: TWL92230 Camera Processor: DM290 STn8815 CPU: ARM926EJ at 393MHz Power Management: STw481x Camera Processor: unknown From above comparison, I am quite sure there will be some performance differences in term of battery life time and camera and imaging performance. But whether or not it will be better I cannot tell. We Just have to wait and see. This post has been edited by Survivor: Feb 21 2008, 01:51 PM |

Looks like Nokia is going to let go some of its market shares to other vendors.
If this N96 is priced at, say RM2799, I'm just gonna pass and perhaps invest it to other 'new' model like Sony XPERIA. Ever since I own E61, I'm addicted to thumboard feature. Keypad is history for me. Though this model has 5MP reso, I'm not gonna crazed about it. They can put as high as 12.1MP reso but if you can't get good photos in the dark, it's useless. In this case, the N82 is still much more superior than N96. So, in the camera department, Nokia is moving backwards. But in the storage capacity, yes, N96 does give value for money. I wonder if 16GB microSD card would cost around RM200 at Q3 of 2008? And hopefully by that time, there are a few phone models support 16GB microSD, then, this N96 is gonna be seen as 'normal' in storage department. Looks like the 'preview' models introduced by various vendors make me wanna keep some money for a substitution of my E61. For the time being, XPERIA is my first priority. |

last time when n95 came out, many ppl impress with it, but this n96...
i think this n96 will not hold king of mobile phone award like its predecessor... nway as my personal view, i dun wanna buy something expensive but in the end when ppl look at it (sekilas pandang/sekali pandang) thought this is not a flagship model by nokia (they thought it is n81 |

mobile-review update that this n96 perhaps will come with xenon flash instead of js double LED flash...
this might pump up n96 sales if its true...good for nokia lovers nway it still rumour till official announcement from nokia nway the pics might be photoshop pics or might be real one here quote from mobile review QUOTE Reportedly, the new Nokia N96 smartphone will come with a xenon flash instead of the announced double LED. That is the reason why we don't see a device announced at the Mobile World Congress 2008 on the market, says the source. It was a last minute's decision to replace the flash to the xenon type. I'd remind you that Nokia N96 is equipped with a high-quality 5-megapixel camera featuring Carl Zeiss lens and VGA 30 fps video capture. The company claimed that the double LED flash can be active even at video shooting. And now we learn that there will be another flash. The source has even provided the picture of a Nokia N96 with the xenon flash. This post has been edited by squall_kay: Apr 2 2008, 11:02 PM Attached thumbnail(s) |

Still there are people whom are willing to buy.
no matter how high the price might be, there are still some people whom are desperate to get their hands on it. then when they got bored of it, they will sell it. |

Ok guys I tried 3 ppl already, claiming to have N96, all have the same modus operandi, they are from either UK or US, and they'd give ridiculous prices like USD350 for an N96, and they'd only want you to pay via TT or Western Union but all were cracked when I asked them one question:
" Do You have Nokia Aeon? " they all said "Yes" people would do anything for money, even here in LYN, search for this user's post: longtitude http://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopic=699938&hl= damn This post has been edited by madcatz: May 21 2008, 01:13 AM |

i dunno what they are thinking, but its a pity that some ppl have been conned by them all over the world, here are the list of supposed "shops" that you guys should be wary of on the net:
ukphonestore NAME:MICHEAL FRIMP ADDRESS:42 WIGMORE STREET CITY: LONDON COUNTRY:UK ZIPCODE:W1U 2RY (Check at London Map, that postcode is for some unknown warehouse or something, I'm unsure, but definitely not a phone shop) HECHAMMY ELECTRONICS INC PLOT 24/26 Sharon Gate Av Melbourne Beach Florida 32951 FLORIDA USA TEL: 1 321-594-4405 Msn: HECHAM213 Skype: hect.hamilo (This one is even harder to track, some nonexistent place in Florida) the other one is a local contact in Hyderabad, but they wont be selling anything to me anytime soon, the nerve And this you guys, is their level of grammar, taken from an excerpt of my correspondence with them. If my english teacher saw this, she'd murder this guy "Hello we are very sorry for the miss type ok we have the nokia n96 16gb unlocked }ok and get back to us with the total unit your are willing to buy from ok and also with your full postage address and your full name ok so we start the packaging of the order and one more thing we are god fearing and we not take what does not belong to us ok" hint: count the "ok"s And these people all claim to not just have N96 but the nonexistent NOKIA AEON, they think were stupid ah? |

RM 3800 for N96? I doubt if it's the original N96 since the release date of the phone remains a secret till today.

Apparently, this has happened at Nokias - the company ran a banner ad inviting users to sign up at Forum Nokias. #1 price: a Nokia N96 8GB. Unfortunately, the image next to the banner was a shot of an N95 8GB(which DOES exist)sorry to disappoint you P.S. QUOTE Nokia Ships Bluetooth Headsets To Limited Edition Nokia N96 Buyers Our readers, Dario and Pedro are going to be the first few to own a limited edition Nokia N96, and they’ll also get a bluetooth headset to compensate for the wait. Some buyers felt that the Face The Task website was misleading making customers wait longer than advertised. Nokia soothes the pain by delivering free Nokia BH-503 bluetooth headset for their patience. ![]() Here’s the email from Nokia: Dear customer, We sincerely apologise for the fact that we cannot at this moment state the exact delivery date for your limited edition Nokia N96. As soon as we have shipped your Nokia N96 you will receive an email through which you can track your parcel and the date of its delivery. In the meantime, in appreciation of your continued patience, we’ll be arranging a delivery of a free Nokia Bluetooth Stereo Headset BH-503 in silver colour which you’ll be able to use with your Nokia N96 multimedia computer. Our customer care is the best contact point for you to help with any questions you have. You can find your local customer care contact details at http://www.nokia.com/support. Once again, we hope you accept our apologies. We assure you that we are doing everything we can to have your device shipped to you as soon as possible. Respectfully, Nokia I wonder if all the 96 buyers are getting the headset or if it’s just Pedro and Dario who notified us about the email. Are you one of the limited edition Nokia N96 buyers? Did you get an email about receiving a headset? taken from : http://thenokiablog.com |

this phone will be available at Malaysia at second week of September
i read something like that, forgot the source... anyway, squall_kay missed out a few advantage of N85 to N96, which is the 3D acceleration and also the FPU those are important factors for ppl who use phones to game a lot( like me not to mention the dual slide is cooler for N85, because of the button layout and the multiple icon |

QUOTE 3RD AUGUST 2008 Highly Anticipated Nokia N96 Starts Shipping in Europe, Asia and Middle East Nokia N96Nokia today announced the availability of the much anticipated Nokia N96, its flagship multimedia computer in the iconic Nokia Nseries range. It boasts live TV, 5 megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics, turn-by-turn voice navigation, 16GB of internal memory that can be increased to 24GB with an optional microSD card, superior sound and music, N-Gage gaming and a stunning 2.8" display. First shipments of the Nokia N96 have started and it will be available with an estimated retail price of EUR 550 before taxes and subsidies. "The Nokia N96 is mobile entertainment at its best, a fitting flagship for our Nseries range. It defines convergence by blending phone and multimedia options seamlessly with the unique Nokia Nseries dual slider that makes discovering and sharing experiences easy. Watch live TV and video, take high quality photos and geotag them to specific locations or directly upload them online via the fast internet connection - it is all about taking mobile entertainment and communication to the next level," says Jonas Geust, Vice President, Nokia Nseries. Supporting live TV as it happens using DVB-H technology, the Nokia N96 delivers advanced television viewing across a number of channels. It is even possible to record favorite programmes to watch back whenever suits, be it on a train, in an airport lounge or in a café over a drink. Nokia N96 In many markets, the Nokia N96 comes pre-loaded with a blockbuster movie (title varies by region). Feel part of the action as it erupts through the vivid 2.8" display and built-in 3D stereo speakers. Sit back, watch the plot unfold and enjoy the special effects hands-free, practically anywhere, thanks to a cleverly designed 'kickstand' on the back cover. The Nokia N96 has the ability to store up to 40 hours of video content transferred from a PC via hi-speed USB 2.0 connection or found online with WLAN and HSDPA support. The Nokia Video Center offers access to a variety of content ranging from movie trailers and comedy to news from world-leading providers such as YouTube, Reuters and Sony Pictures. The Nokia N96 supports the most common video formats including MPEG-4, Windows Media Video and Flash Video. Capture clear, bright, high quality video clips at 30 frames per second as well as sharp, defined photos with the 5 megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics and dual LED Flash. Images can be geotagged instantly to record the location and directly uploaded to online communities such as Share on Ovi and Flickr The Nokia N96 has an enhanced navigation experience that includes rich, easy-to-use maps with urban detail as well as satellite views. Voice guided turn-by-turn navigation - for walking or driving - along with the new City Guides that offer a great way to explore undiscovered places. It is even possible to upload and share personalized journeys, favourite places and great new finds online. Nokia N96 The Nokia N96 boasts an advanced music offering and can hold a music collection that entertains even more dedicated fans. People can create personal music playlists by downloading tracks from the Nokia Music Store and other online sites or synchronize PC and mobile libraries via hi-speed USB connectivity. Alternatively, the Nokia N96 offers RDS radio or a wide selection of stations via the internet. Making the mobile experience even more personal, the Nokia Download! application provides a broad range of tailored content - including a selection of branded entertainment as well as personalized content - to ensure each Nokia N96 is as unique as its owner. ya, the truth is, nokia's actual high end phone is N85, N96 is just a normal phone with epic memory, with bigger screen(not better) and a kickstand.

n95 8gb is just nice , the storage is more than enough, unless u wanna put in more ahem video ..
i rather stick to n95 8gb than n96 , design and features not much difference, bigger storage will caused lagging anyway |

from what i can see. it has 950mAh battery compared to 1200mAh on the n95 8GB and 1050mAh on n82.
camera wise the n82's xenon flash WINS hands down against n95 8b and even n96's DUAL led flash. |

I just bought the N96 yesterday. RM3200, Avaxx set.
- Battery life is good, lasted more than a day on first charge - No ambient light sensor - Can't setup gmail account (should be resolved with new firmware) - Speaker volume loud and clear - Seems to be a tad slower than my previous N82 (should be resolved with new firmware) - Keypad is tough to sms, lowest row difficult to access, i guess it takes getting used - No missed calls/sms screen saver, however it reflects via the navi wheel breathing (double breathing) - Build quality can't match N82, but overall not too bad, keypad tends to squeek a bit This post has been edited by Ramesh Subaschandram: Sep 18 2008, 09:59 AM |

QUOTE(unknowndevices @ Sep 18 2008, 03:09 PM) can't setup gmail under message -> mailbox?...that's weird?... Bought it at Digital Mall. Keypad can't compare with N82. Could easily speed text with my N82 but not N96. The spacing between keys isn't defined well, hence i tend to press the wrong keys. Missing my N82 it seems the keypad wasn't that good...feel so plastic,no "wonderful" feeling... anyway...mind to post some picture(s)...where you bought you set?... Sorry guys, i have no camera to take photos, at work now. |

I'm currently using N95 8gb, was wondering whether if it is worth to upgrade to N96.
Based on the trade-in value & new N96 pricing, I need to top up like about 2k for this phone. Appreciate if anyone who has made the switch from the N95 8gb to comment on the pros & cons. Regards |

The only advantage you gain is 16GB built in flash memory, DVB-H receiver and S60 3rd Edition FP2. I suggest you wait for the N85 (due out next month) and compare.Based on the trade-in value & new N96 pricing, I need to top up like about 2k for this phone. Yes, should probably wait until the release of the N85 .... perhaps by year end.
Somehow, I felt that the general response to the N96 is somewhat cool unlike the N95 when it was 1st launched. |

My review on day of my N96 :-
1. Hang on the first day after install a game from the NGAGE session.... 2. Camera is a bit dissapointed compare with my N95 8GB...maybe the software problem...but the video recording is crystal clear. 3. Ringtone set but when the phone ring didn't have sound came out except the vibrate only.... 4. SMS is fine with me even i have a big finger...hehehehe 5. Video preset in the phone can't play well...always hang in between like pasar malam vcd version.... 6.......other than that is I am loving it.....maybe will visit Nokia Hosp....to repair my hp if the prob still appear..as usual for Nokia hp. Below picture taken with N96 vs N95 8GB...you be the judge...please be remind that i didn't set anything except shoot on the spot. Attached thumbnail(s) |

Chalk me up for a new owner, got my N96 yesterday. Already uploaded 3GB worth of maps in, plus loads of movies and songs. I'm going to Times Square to see if the Mobile LiveTV is anything worth signing up. Also have the Garmin Mobile XT loaded into it, works awesome. Only thing is, the satellite linkup is slower than my iPhone 3G.
Got mine for RM3050, Avaxx unit. |

there's premium price to pay to be among the first to own new products. just like N95 few years back. how much does it cost now? not even half the price... expect the same with N96. but i'm more interested with N85 and N79

I have an N95 and a stupid feature which I don't like is about the call log. I cannot delete a specific call/sms log and can only do so for everything at one go. I'm not sure if N96 has the same silly feature?

One feature lacking in the S60 FP2 3rd Edition is the ability to display caller ID + phone number simultaneously when a call comes in. Its confusing when your friend has two mobile numbers and you don't know which one he is calling from. SE displays both. Iphone is the worst as it wouldn't display the name unless the "+6" prefix is removed from the contact (DiGi only). |

QUOTE(smashpOp @ Sep 23 2008, 10:48 AM) I was looking through a couple of different N96 review online and they are showing different versions of accessing LiveTV on their N96. One had it accessed via pressing the media button on the N96, while another is accessed via an app icon buried inside the many pages in the N96. The current built on N96 I have only have it accessible via the media key on the N96, and no way whatsoever to do so via the latter method. The problem here is, accessing LiveTV this way requires downloading the EPG (electronic programme guide) from U Mobile, and that results in a "fail to download" error all the time. Yes, I have subscribed to their U38 postpaid package and was told that LiveTV subscription is instantaneous, not like having to wait for a few hours to get 3G services. (BTW, U38 package gives me 2 month free unlimited 3G service, which is miles better than the current Celcom package I am using. Full bars inside the house.)So there it is. I find it weird that their N77 on display running Live TV with no hitches whatsoever, and it's running the same Symbian 3rd Ed. I'm beginning to suspect either one of these two things:- The software/apps responsible to access LiveTV is not running as it should, OR U Mobile profiled only those cellphones supported to work under their Mobile LiveTV service, and not include a generalised profile for all DVB-H capable equipments. FYI, DVB equipments are not restricted to only cellphones, I've been to Germany and Italy where TV stations have moved away from hideous analogue antennaes and use DVB set-top boxes to deliver digital terrestrial TV channels. It just so happens that the N96 is as capable as these set-top boxes. |

This is NOT TV online, which by that I assume you mean using 3G/EDGE service to precache/buffer the shows before they load, that is streaming TV. DVB-H stands for Digital Video Broadcast Handheld, and this is digital TV reception live on your handheld device. Channel changes are instantaneous, and yes, there are multiple channels available. In the case of U Mobile, they are TV1, TV3, NTV7, 8TV, Trace TV, Channelnews Asia, U Mobile TV and Bloomberg.

Sigh....
If you want to use TV at home , what do you need? An antennae right? You subscribe to the AllMightyGod 777-line also, your cellphone got no DVB-H antennae, how are you going to get the digital broadcast? Stop thinking in terms of streaming or download, and start thinking in terms of your Astro, minus the crappy no-coverage-when-raining status. DVB-H is less attentuated, therefore less affected by weather conditions. So, in normal, average-Joe , layman terms:- Mau LiveTV? You punya cellphone ada DVB-H antennae? Tada kalu, itu LiveTV tabley tengok la macha! This is not TV-online, ala Digi/Maxis/Celcom with whatever download/streaming offering they used to have, that require consistent network connection, and uninterrupted as well. One guy next to you turns on his cellphone and uses the same network as you do, and watch your streaming TV-online chug and cough and choke like an asthmatic old man. DVB-H signals are like your TV signals, only digital. Welcome to the future. |

even simpler explanation,
DVB-T= receive subscribed TV signal, no internet connection required. example like Astro. MobileTV= stream video via data connection (EDGE, 3G, WiFi, etc). normally only charged for data transfer. example like watching youtube online on phone. get it? |

QUOTE(Seaedge @ Oct 4 2008, 11:41 PM) most probably firmware prob... like E66.. the old firmware takes sheetty pictures... new firmware's picture looks way2 better... no. go google. Nokia N96 is equipped with a 5 megapixel camera with a maximum image resolution of 2592x1944 pixels. It sports autofocus and a dual-LED flash but unluckily no lens protection whatsoever. This means the glass protecting the lens is quite vulnerable to scratches and finger smudges. Just a quick glance at the text on Nokia N96 lens is enough to tell us that its sensor has been downgraded. It shows a focal length of 5.2, while Nokia N95 8GB has a focal length of 5.6. Having in mind that both handsets have the same angle of view this clearly indicates that a smaller sensor has been used in Nokia N96. The photos also come to confirm this. taken from gsmarena...nway, perhaps next FW can improve it This post has been edited by squall_kay: Oct 5 2008, 01:13 AM |

yeah.. notice that too.. but still producing good pictar also depending on software imaging oso.. since n96 cant produce RAW image...
besides, i think the focal length isnt the reason why it cant take pics better than N95 after i google up focal length definition... although it come up with all type of equations; but from my understanding.. focal length is about the distance of the focus object from the lens... |

QUOTE(aruja_69 @ Oct 19 2008, 11:27 PM) Yes, mine is AP with pre installed full length Transformer movie. It's an oversea set, from Saudi's. Funny when watched the movie with arabic subtitle. Also some arabic songs as well. I notice my phone is a bit slower when using maxis simcard in Malaysia but then a lot quicker when I use Vodafone simcard in the UK. Does this simcard do have effect on the phone? I think N96 will be a lot better as time goes. Same goes to N95 when it first out. It's my thinking though. Any opinion? |

possible memory leak? how about restarting and see if opening new sms still take 20 sec. if it is the same then i am really not sure (possible firmware bugs), but if it open new sms faster than b4 after reset, memory leak's possibility is high.

Does everyone has problem with the keys (the front interface)? Seems like very hard to press when I try the demo unit in 1U. Even the dummy has better feedback than the real unit which is shocking. |

haihz... feel very dissapointed with my n96...
add on rm800-900 to purchase the n96(before purchase already read a lot of thing at net be4 purchase)(in all web say n96 is better processor or wat) -music player will hang and lag and cant move(cant press play),hanged for a while then go inside the music....(this problem appear after i transfer my all music from n5 8gb to n96(around 900+ song file) -video player will hang and lag also when i went to video center to view back my previous recording using n95 8gb.. lagg!! -overall all ok but i thought n96 had 128mb of ram? my n95 8gb after reboot also had 78mb of ram after reboot but y this n96 left 45mb then on standy then drop till 30++.. haihz.... so far sound quality, interface and other all very nice compare to n95 8gb... haihz.. 16gb+8gb memry card = hang dao till wan thrw the phone... image wil lag a little bit (but its ok for me)(around 1000 pic) battery life seens ok can last 1 day... this phone suitable for ppl who use "a little memory"... QUOTE(squall_kay @ Nov 9 2008, 10:14 PM) 1st, dont compare with proton. samsung one of the biggest company in the world where they hv many n numerous type of business hmm..useless? old times might be yes la. but, last2 time i also used samsung phones, i do admit not so good but really long lasting. thn lasak. my good old x480. but, this past 1-2 years samsung already show they improved a lot in mobile phones department. n they hv gain quite large market share, if they so useless, why so many ppl around the world bought it? even more than SE. whats ur comment? n many professional reviews and normal customers feedback (base on forum, online review n etc) praise samsung. their improvement and innovation more rapid than the SE (two losing company merge to become one, but still losing as for me, i dont mind pick a samsung phone in the future if its spec n budget within my range. btw u guyz still remember last time samsung phone tat the camera can twist 360 or 180 degree?then come out with e700 tat can catch up to 7 photo at once... tat phone very geng but at the end when samsung less focus anymore on phone tat make me trouble.. no spare parts, too exp or bla bla.. now innova8 keng or onmia.. but when maybe 10mega pixel or wat come out then when samsung don focus anymore on phone then only know wat call exp or no spare parts.. n remember 1 more thing is symbian license also solded by nokia to samsung(p/s:correct me if i m wrong)cause one samsung promoter tolded me.. like n96 using fpv2 but innova 8 using 1st nia.. i wanna make 1 more example is 1 samsung mp3 player can record,mp4 and a lot thing... but y 90/100% ppl buying ipoh or sony? cause sony 1st gud on sound quality.. like nokia is focus on phone.... how to make technology also samsung still one day will non focus on phone.. trust me guy~~~ i not try to quarrel but just a sense... one more thing is samsung biggest company? 2day u ask some uncle u know samsung?har?got phone meh? 80% will answer "the lcd very good" or air con" but if ask uncle "wat phone u use" sure ans nokia lol... QUOTE(hanieyf @ Nov 10 2008, 03:40 PM) for your info.. i bought n95 8gb..it sux.. because battery sux..also i dont like the quality of the lcd..if you look closely n compare to rest of n series the n95 8gb lcd quality is less sharpness..same goes with old n95 too.. i just been into the nokia developer pages and i can see N85 using same single cpu as n79 and n78.. so without comprising performance i thing N85 is so far the best nseries ever..also it has th new OLED display which has better colour reproduction.. I must say n82 is good.. but really hate the key buttons.. compare to n78 keys is better..even though n78 has less mega pixel then n82 but nokia has really upgraded the noise in quality of pics ..nevertheless the with xenon flash and night pic reproduction n82 is unbeatable.. it all depends for best smartphone and camera functions indeed n82 is the best.. I dont think n96 justify it expensive price with so many bugs around..i really dont prefer it. If i have money now i would upgrade my n78 to N85.. You cqan see now nokia is moving into using ARM11 processors (single cpu) for cost n performance consideration also compare to high end nseries..using ARM9 or ARM 11 processor (dual core) which infact use more power..n of cos more expensive.. but has the 2d/3D hardware accelerator capability Nevertheless even N78 is cheaper and branded as entry level nseries i managed to hack the phone and enable ngage application run on it.. i can see there is no difference is performance playing most ngage titles..even the new ones.. the only bummer is the current firmware 12.046 does not support star wars unleashed yet.. but rest of other popular ngage titles works fine! for price performance ratio and fast GPS..n78 rules!..IMHO This post has been edited by intune: Nov 11 2008, 03:44 AM |

QUOTE(intune @ Nov 13 2008, 12:14 AM) Lag? whouldnt be.. is it a firmware issue? if so i think stay away from n96 for now.. IMHO n96 is over price anyways.. no la.. n96 still is the flagship for nokia lo....N85 should be the flagship phone for nokia i think.. n the v12 soon going available already.. rumor say will more faster twice then now n96... @Cabi11
I think you have mistaken my Qs. Correct me. I knew about the Maxis and Celcom tv streaming.. Wad I mean is, N96 comes with wad 'built in antenna', I wonder if that works without subscribing to anything. |

QUOTE(kvys2000 @ Nov 19 2008, 06:32 PM) @Cabi11 Oo ok, actually as for my knowledge and exp, N96 dont have built in tv tuner. only a digital broadcasting tuner. so i guess we cant get the tv1 and tv2 except if we have access to it via wifi or subscription.
