Usually phase out mobo like Asus or MSI take 2 months or more for supplier send back to Taiwan replace a new or repair & send back to Malaysia local retailers usually caught in the middle. I do boycott Logitech products handled by MCL used worst RMA service. May i have opinion which provide fastest mobo RMA. The most retailers provide 2 weeks 1 to 1 exchange if any problems, after 2 weeks ur hardware send to local distro RMA.

Haven't bought from Skygate so no idea.

As for running 2 places, never happened to me before... Instead, the goods come to me thumbup.gif I usually call before I go, and if the branch I'm going ran out of stock, they'll send from other branch. I don't need to go anywhere else rclxms.gif Price is not cheap? I find their price is already very reasonable, and sometimes the cheapest of all shops I've been to whistling.gif

Atleast elaborate the brand/model of the mobo involved instead of suggesting people something negative wink.gif

Your claim are half-ass complete. Bake the other half of the cake and present it laugh.gif

I personally have bought from Skygate before, their prices are very reasonable and services are Top Notch thumbup.gif

As for GZ, i used to called them to check for stock availability before i go there. Last time i ordered performance RAM, said in stock at shop, when i go there, they sold the wrong RAM to me instead. Luckily, the staff from Skygate told me the ram is wrong, else i wouldnt know doh.gif

I ended up buying the wrong RAM instead of the one which i had in mind in the first place because during November are filled with games laugh.gif

As you can see, Skygate staff are very honest and helpful to me even i buy the items from next door notworthy.gif

2 months for mobo RMA is considered long ? That is pretty much standard what.

So does it mean you have a very good dealer who gives you very fast mobo RMA ? How long does it take ? Can you recommend to us ?

GZ = whistling.gif whistling.gif whistling.gif

One example..

P35-DS3 GZ@BJ selling RM400++
P35-DS3 GZ@Midlands selling RM420+-
P35-DS3 GZ@Prangin selling RM430+-

very good management lo.. prices all different. prangin most expensive cause nobody else selling gigabyte.
their price not cheap also.. BJ selling at RM400++ whn precess and pristine selling at RM385/390.
P/S: they sell many overprice item.. do some survey and u will know.

QUOTE(Dreamworks @ Dec 24 2007, 01:49 AM)
Wasted a total of 3 hours today just to look for a board, went from place to place... What la... Everywhere also out of stock, Gigabyte so popular meh?

I initially ordered a DS3L from Gadget Zone, waited 4 days for them to transport it from their warehouse and finally when I wanted to go collect today, they told me they sold it... WTF? vmad.gif Reserved already but sold to some one else and didn't even bother to notify me, such unprofessionalism is rather dissapointing from a shop I used to think highly of shakehead.gif

Anyway, went to Penang Island, got caught in a few jams and finally reached BJ. One shop tried to sell me an Asus P5K SE for RM499, reason is because that's his last board shocking.gif Well... He can keep it. Checked out a few more shops until I passed by one, saw the glimpse of a few Gigabyte boxes and went staight in. Was so happy to actually find 2 box of DS3L and 1 last unit of DS3R on the shelf, grabbed the DS3R straight away for RM450, a good enough price right? tongue.gif Don't need the RAID feature but I was so desperate for a DS3 variant I didn't mind paying a lil extra laugh.gif
*
lol... suddenly so furious pulak, seems so desprate wanted DS3 mobos.

All Penang Bro,

Thanks!!!
*
I read and read again your question so many times, But I cant recommend any shop, but please try these location.

Island
1. Midland One Stop, Pulau Tikus: There's plenty PC shop there, try go and checkout. Bit pricey.
2. Bukit Jambul Complex: Upper floor, some PC shops. I've sometimes go there and only buy once at GZ there. Ermmmmm Not customer-friendly enough tongue.gif
3. Prangin Mall: Try to find PC shops at the Cyber Area, many times surveying but only bought Canon ink (Think Tank) there ONCE.
4. Sungai Dua, beside USM: Try here, usually there are some ready-made PC that are selling cheap (because it targeted to USM students)
5. Gurney Plaza: Wanna try a MAC here?
6. PC Depot - make a visit here as a last option.

Mainland
1. SS Computer, beside Pacific in same row with PC Depot: Popular spot for UiTM and Polytech students
2. another two more PC Shops at the same row here with SS and PCD, but forgot the names.
3. Behind Pacific, there lies Gadget Zone and another reputable Wholesaler, maybe now they open their ready made PC to walk in customer. BL@ST PC
4. Sunway Carnival Mall - Not so sure....
5. Chai Leng Park: There are some old school PC Shops here. try find out there.
6. PC Depot - make this as the last option

*me resides in Butterworth, so sorry. My coverage area only in Butterworth, Bayan Baru, Georgetown tongue.gif

for trusworthy.. hrm... Its hard to say.. Business is business and you should have some PC technical knowledge for not being conned by the dealer. maybe http://www.hardwarezone.com.my should be your reference for your price guide. Its normal for Penang price a bit RM20-30 higher than KL.

PC depot famous incident is:

1. Huge and cheap pricelist, but NO STOCK. Always NO STOCK.
2. Un-friendly
3. Bad after sales services - including RMA. For lifetime warranty such as RAM, 1 year company warranty, after that RMA urself. What the heck...... Im using my RAM for 3 years now, but the place I've bought it at the 1st place still remember me because I've RMA-ed twice.
4. Bad technical knowledge sales representative. Try go there and ask them a lot about GFX pipeline and frequency. tongue.gif

For desperate need or cheap items, can go here lah. but for a pricey and long term items, avoid this monster.

hi
i am 100% agree that what u said.
do u know mandarin? if yes, pls refer to below,
this is the letter i send for PC Depot management
to complain, but finally no 1 care abt this.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------
您好

我写这封信是要投诉你们I-Avenue分行现在的SUPERVISOR-Ah Tan
时我只听到那个印裔人对着那个SUPERVISOR说“You selling, but you don’t
wan’t to explain how to use, Then customer how to know? And who is going to
ask?”
SUPERVISOR。

i am 100% agree that what u said.
do u know mandarin? if yes, pls refer to below,
this is the letter i send for PC Depot management
to complain, but finally no 1 care abt this.
But I don't know mandarin, how ah?
I use translator also comes out not right.

I stop buying from them long time liao.
Once a while I just visit if I happen to be nearby.
I visit to check their customer service or lack of it.
Last visit almost tempted to buy from them but got scolding instead rclxub.gif

So I hope you can get someone to translate your story.

It is new trend of PC fair, I suppose.

Notebook cooling pad is also become more recently.

Now PC fair most sell pendrive, printer, mouse, accessories and notebook, those selling desktop and desktop related hardwares almost can't (edited) find it anymore.

Yes, hmmm...come to think of it, all selling common item.
And mostly cheap low quality made in China products.
Last time PC Fair where got people selling camera?
Now so many stall also selling camera, the same camera.
The same common items...so boring.
If camera, I might as well go to Camera Fair instead of PC fair.

I dare not buy HDD casing from Fair, HDD ok.
Bought casing last time, 3 months KO!
Nobody wants to RMA for me.
Now if I buy things from Fair I make sure they are reputable shop in Pg.

HDD cheap? I found some more expensive.
The ones selling cheap, sold out most of their stock by Sat night.
Left only 160GB, which the sales lady says tak laku anymore.
Everyone looking for bigger capacity nowadays.

Penang Fair is so boring when compare to Kuala Lumpur.
They should have more brands setting up the stall in the main hall show casing their latest innovative products, and the pasar malam stalls at the outer ring.
Just after November, you would have thought that you will get to see the new Intel processor and its mobo or some new stuff, but then, NOTHING!

This, you are quite right.
You ask them about ISO, pixel and noise. One promoter say sorry PC Fair very noisy doh.gif
That's why camera should be restricted for PC Fair, to brands only, not every Ah Too or Ah Hwa Company blush.gif .

This time got one exception - I saw artist promoting the Wacom tablets.
But the price so much more expensive than the garage sales section, good thing or else I drool.gif and buy it! laugh.gif

I also notice all promoters start their sales pitch in Mandarin! hmm.gif
This is Penang PC fair la NOT Hong Kong or Shanghai.
Why no Hockkien, Malay or English?

Don't ever go to PC Depot[COLOR=red] !! This is my first time & it is going to be my LAST time to PC depot.. Here is my experience.

1.) Bough a wireless USB adapter.. Found out that the reception is not so good to suite my environment
2.) Bring back to change others brand (more expensive brand) in the next ealier morning..

U know what is their company policy for changing goods?

1. Not only u need to pay the different (more expensive brand), but they will charge a 10% of your 1 st goods purchased...
Means.. if u bough RM 90 goods..Then, u decide to change to RM 120 goods.. U have to pay the different of RM 30 + RM 9= RM 39 !

I never see such a computer shop with this kind of policy...!! Why shall i need to buy at their shop next time..There are many others are selling..

NEVER EVER GO TO PC DEPOT!! mad.gif

I went to PC Depot in Penang at e-Gate with my father to buy RAM for our laptops.

What really pissed me off was that the guy asked if my father would like him to install it.

My father said ok BUT AT A PRICE OF RM35!!! vmad.gif

Luckily i was there if not my father would have been cheated since he doesn't know much about computers.

RM35 to install a RAM? A procedure that takes less than a minute costs RM35? It doesn't make sense at all.

Even the RAM is RM36. I almost wanted to scold that guy but i didn't wanna start a fight or anything like that.

They think we are so stupid?? Cheating people so easily. I wonder how much profit they've made by cheating computer newbies.

now i go to ACTIVE LANSING... cheaper wink.gif
i bought EPSON T10 refillable cartridge from active lansing prangin mall.
wrong kind of cartridge... i went to 1stop active lansing (nearer my house) and changed it for a working one.

best customer service... go to one branch and exchange for goods in another.

Ya, Active Lansing price are reasonable and technician is VERY good, but they mostly keep low end China products. Their Cooler Master PSU range also limited and no stock. Now only I see them stocking on Asus mobo more than Foxconn.

Gayget zone prices are slightly more higher, maybe that why they can afford to carry better quality products. I try not to buy from gayget zone as I know their mark up are high and very hard to bargain. Service sometimes good, other times bad?

I always shop at other places 1st before going to gayget zone but I dunno why I end up buying more things in that gayget zone 1stop sweat.gif sweat.gif

oh to add on to PC DEPOT list of bad customer experience, I had a friend who bought a USB drive from them. he went home and found out that the drive could not be detected. then he went back to PC DEPOT and asked them what happened. they told him that the USB drive needs to be formatted at the price of around RM20. that's totally absurd as the effort only requires few clicks.

Gadget Zone and SwissPac is good to, many choices but a bit pricey..

PC Depot and Makson is in my personal blacklist since 2004.. Simply because their after sales services is very-very bad.. Seriously..

Thats why people always kena tipu of the so called big big signboard and offer this, offer that. Price war here, Price war there.

Lets share my experiance about PC DEPORT near Butterworth Megamall.

I went to pc deport last month and i bought a new desktop cpu from them. That day was sunday, many customers inside there. I walk inside and stand there about half hour but no ppl are bother about me, i wear very very casual with short pant, i think they thought im just survey around yawn.gif ... so i took the price list can start rig my cpu. After that, i passed them the list to a young saleman at front side, and he count me the total price and i also agreed with that. So our deal is done... with no discount on the price list for all items... mad.gif

BUT THEN, he asking me go to back end where warehouse store to collect the items myself? Self-service??? Ok, nvm.. then i take the list to one of the warehouse staff. He took all the items in the list also included the cpu chasis and put infront of me.

I asked: "Just like this?"
he said: "Yeah, anything missed?"
I said: "Yeah, u didt help me install the hardware yet."
he said: "Oh..got, we got help."
I said: "OK, then please help me install it."
he said: "OK"

Then he wrote +RM90 on the bill
I said: "Wait, what is this Rm90 for???"
he said: "oh, labour fees lah tauke..."
I said: "Just for installing?"
he said: "yeah"
I said:"OK, forget it, cancel it from the bill i will do it myself........"

If for those dunno how to setup cpu, u have no choice to pay for extra RM90 labour fees..... What is this? I nvr heard labour fees for buying a computer! Im not repair my car! doh.gif

Wah wah, Super Advertise ah. Install for free.

But i believe that most of the shop will charge around 20-30 for assemble up the new Computer and test it because this is only their margin. Some shop did not charge because the profit for the hardware is high. This is totally depends on the computer shop.

But PC Depot charge RM90... that really too much.. They really thinks that all the people buy from them is stupid or what mad.gif mad.gif mad.gif

Well, their things aren't really that cheap although with good service.
They don't really stock up on a lot of nice stuff and their system is fixed so the prices can't be negotiated.
With that kind of setup, they don't even have an online price list. So it's very troublesome to go to their shop just to see if they have the item you're looking for and at what price...

Their shop isn't even near other computer shops which you can go around comparing price also...

tongue.gif

I like them though... But just lazy to visit them.

Must be I unlucky then... I usually go to the parking outside komtar/prangin mall because I couldn't find a proper parking spot inside... Besides, it's cheaper.

I wonder what is you guys latest experience with Nanyang PC shop at 1 Stop?

I just had an awfully bad one myself.

Was looking for Sandisk Contour 8GB Flash Drive and they are selling for RM109. I think the price was alright for a solid and reliable flash drive. Hence I asked them to show me the item from a locked glass closet.

At first glance, I notice the box has been opened before and immediately question the stuff. they claimed it was unbox for testing purposes. I assume it was a display unit and hence inquired whether it would be further discounted. They claim this item will have no more price reduction.

The next thing I notice was a tiny burn-in mark on the USB connector. It's the evidence that this item had been heavily used before. I took out another 2 x 16GB Contour (display units) from the glass closet and I didn't see any burn-in mark at all.

I totally feel cheated. A rather expensive item has been used but they insist to sell it off on a brand new price. Not to mention too, they thought we as consumer are not able to detect whether the item was unbox for testing or been heavily used for whatever purposes.

I loathe this type of dishonest retailer and will definitely stop support their business or reputation from now onward.

I do feel that Nanyang is just the same as PCdepot. Lousy service and lots of dishonest salesmen. I was only lucky to met only 1 good salesman from Nanyang before, that was it. The rest was shit.

PCDepot = Last choice. Close eye, go in, get item, pay, go out, forget about whatever after sales service you'll have. You'd probably get better after sales service from second hand PC shops.

Well, I'd definitely prefer a dealer with a physical shop so that I can get after sales service easily.
But thanks for the help. I'll just scout around PACIFIC for some other shops then.

I Never bought from her before also wor. Just heard a lot of people giving good comments about her.

I realize her stuff also not the cheapest. But to me, sometimes I rather buy something slightly more expensive then to buy something cheap and regret later.

Example, Buying from Keypoint or Makson will make you really really regret. These are the 2 most banned shops in my list.

me also ban keypoint... I remember got 1 year PC fair I bought a dekstop from them, they told me that MB is Asus brand then who knows when i go their shop to collect dekstop they gave me Asrock brand MB. I argue with them say the sales girl told me MB is Asus brand, I insists want to see that sales girl but that sales girl told me "NO we never provide Asus MB for the dekstop, we use Asrock" then i request to deduct some price they also not allow. After that incident I never never go to this shop again... BAN BAN BAN!!

Now normally I go Gadget zone but recently I discover their price a bit higher... haiz...

Any good shop to recommend??

yes, most ppl will think so, but sadly it not happen in real business market.
we are not selling high but is the lowyat shops processor+mobo and some hardwares selling below our cost given by same distributor.
i can show u our pricelist if u not believe. smile.gif
lowyat shops big boss got big money, they can order processor/mobo in big quantity over 100 units (lower cost)
and then throw price with cost +RM1-2 ringgit margin.
as chinese said ''big fish eat small fish" , this is the real situation in business. smile.gif

lowyat their price for processor, mobo is the cheapest i can said.
but for some newly high end mobo or GPU and accessories like casing, CPU cooler, psu, their price is higher.
besides, they only cover 1 year shop warranty, after 1 year u need to pay them RMA fees (handling charge) although the items still under warranty period.

remember ''big fish eat small fish" , this is the real situation in business.
u got big money, u can play others. wink.gif

I would suggest Active Lansing that located in the Midlands One Stop mall, near Pulau Tikus, 6th floor.

The prices are quite reasonable, not so cheap and not so expensive, and all prices are negotiable. They also have technician to help you to build a new PC, as I got my own new custom built PC from there.

I have to agree, Lowyat plaza is the only place to go (as for now)
I been to Digital Mall Seksyen 14, can't get what I want. Then Sunway Pyramid, to my surprise, the price at Sunway Pyramid is about RM 60 different as compare to what I get from Lowyat, for a RM 200 item.

lowyat sell cheapest, but only cover 1 year shop warranty,
when comes to warranty after 1 year, will charge u to cover back their cost.

sunway area many rich people. RM60 difference no problem for them. la. laugh.gif

me also ban keypoint...

Now normally I go Gadget zone but recently I discover their price a bit higher... haiz...

Any good shop to recommend??

lol, my last last P4 PC also bought from them during PCFair, that time not really know about those brand, just bad experience on the office customer service girl, very lansi and bad service. My dad use HP call office check warranty status, she said hold on and let my dad wait at least 5 min, just listen she sembang with other ppl. 10+ years ago the calling fees so expensive le sweat.gif End up my dad re call again and she said forget already doh.gif said will call back us in 10 min, but end up no respond from them anymore.

My friend bought a HP notebook from keypoint too, which is not under warranty on HP service center @ Malaysia, they sell a lot of recorn notebook/pc too.

travel to KL need $$$, send back warranty need $$$, the more stuff u buy on lowyat have to pay more $$$ for petrol & time, if after 1 year maybe they will charge you RM50~100 service charge. Great, now u have pay more when you want get cheapest stuff biggrin.gif
Unless you have always go KL else it's not worth to do that.

EDU-POINT in TESCO (main)
I bought a cpu heatsink there. the service is good. environment is good. but not so lah koo.
The heatsink worked very good for the first few days. then, the voltage controller (the little remote that can control the voltage=fan speed) started not responding. 2-3 weeks later (now) the heatsink stopped working!

overall most computer shops in Penang are good in away as far as you are their regular customers. But oly thing is..most of them do not have the varierty of the brands/ stocks just like those in KL.

Customer service is still the best part i like to shop an buy in Penang as most of their service are good. of course, bear in mind we also need to be have sufficient knowledge on what we are trying to look for as most of the shops workers (except experienced supervisor or BOSS) product knwoledge are pretty poor indeed......

I was stupid enough to trust every seller in lazada and i bank in the topped up ''RAM'' money privately to them as they instructed through lazada chat and now i never receive the refund from them. Did ask for refund for several times but they just ignore it. Now i have waste my time to lodge report to police and kpdnhep for godsake. Urge you guys out there dont buy from this irresponsible seller.
