Chippy,

For foundation students, u are not allowed to bring any sort of vehicles to uniten. Its under uniten's law that foundation students are not allowed to bring them to uniten. During my foundation period 5 years ago we are not allowed to bring vehicles to uniten....but somehow i juz drove them anyway  brows.gif

Certainly it will not be a troublesome if u dont own one..... uniten bus will take u from your hostel (Amanah) to COE college, food court, library etc etc. The only problem is that u might have to wait for quiet some time for the bus to arrive at Amanah....which it might turns out to be very irritating  mad.gif

Yes, u can get daily essentials from amanah's vicinity. U can send your laundries to dobi on the ground floor and u can go 'tapaw' foods from COE food court, Up10 food court, Lot10 food court etc etc .... so daily essentials wont be a problem  biggrin.gif
*
Wah, it sounds good. That means i will spend my 5 years time in uniten nearby without going anywhere else. It's really nice that i will have supper everyday. biggrin.gif How about the payment for laundry service? If it's too expensive, i better wash it on my own. So,i will be staying in Amanah hostel in my first year at there? How about the internet? Am i gonna to fix it on my own?

It's so convenient, but i think the price will be much more expensive than other place, right? Emm, how about the races in uniten? The majority is the malays and how about the other races and suppose there will be overseas student, right???

I think its time for V2?

Laundry service I dunno, nvr use, Internet is slow, but it is included in the RM180 payment, so you better use it.
I dunno much about the races in uniten, but I do know there is lesser girl here...
And yeah, quite a number of oversea student here.

There is a fair amount of malay, chinese and indian here from my perspective. No race overwhelm one another.

laundry at upten now charges RM3 for every kg. kind off expensive. used to be RM2 only but during the fuel price hike, they took the advantage of raising it as well and didn't bother to bring em down. not sure nowadays though since I usually send mine in Sg Ramal.

By the way, there 2 kedai runcit at upten there. one Pasaraya Tenaga or PasTen as they call it, and a kedai mamak one, Jasa or something the name. Pasten is well known for their bloodsucking prices. Unless the item has explicitly printed the price on the item like breads, they will usually mark the price up like hell. So, for heavy ration shopping, better ask a fren with a car to go to a hypermarket. There are 2 nearby. Carefour at alamanda and Giant at Mines.

this is odd. when I enter uniten 4 years ago, I can bring em just fine. legally that is. registered with stickers and everything. only after a couple of years later I heard they enforced no car for foundation students.

Another thing for internet, it is freakishly slow. Good luck being patient with it.

We pay for the internet but the connection slow? Then i think i will use other broadband that offer cheaper price and faster rate rclxms.gif But what is the purpose they enforce no car for foundation students? Could it be said that they want us to concentrate on our study, so no cars are allow for foundation students? thumbup.gif

I heard that there are lesser girls in uniten compare to the other universities. How come uniten is facing such problem? No other solution to overcome this problem? Maybe few years later, only boys left. rclxms.gif

Its like this. With how it is now, internet is FREE. Just bring in your PC/laptop, plug it in, and you're good to go. However people kept saying we actually paid for it is due to the history of UNITEN's internet. In the early days, we HAVE to pay for internet usage. Pay separately. RM1 for 1 day. Must go to KCM (now ITMS), send in the form with the port number and all, and after a while that port will be available for usage. If you don't pay, the port is practically useless. But around 2 years ago I guess, not exactly sure when, they started changing the policy after a 'battle' by students with the ITMS/UNITEN. Internet is free of charge and all port will be open for usage. However during this time as well, they increase apartment fee by RM10 and as I heard, they actually incorporated the internet fee to the apartment's fee. Hence although touted as free, students will say we actually pay for them.

But the impact to this change of policy is that, well, everyone have access to internet. Even to those previously refuse to pay. Meaning; more people = more congestion = slownesss.

One thing to note, as of last semester, internet is 24 hours on whereby it was only 5PM-7AM previously. Even during RM1 per day days.

Although it is 24/7, I believe not many notice that, between 7AM-6PM, ALL port except 80 is closed. Means no FTP, SSH, etc. Only 80 is open since 80 is for browsing. YM direct connection will also not work due to them using specific port.

Well UNITEN is famous for their engineering courses. Step into that, and there will small population of girls. Step into COIT, the girls outgrows the men.

It's so inconvenient for you all but i feel relieve as nowadays are better than before. I hate the break down of internet connection due to many users connecting to internet at the same time and it usually happens every weekend in my hometown. But anyway, i really hope that it won't happen in uniten

UNITEN does have a history of intenet going 'missing' on the weekend where it was fine during weekdays. Not often, but it does happen.
