Just want to ask all the pros... i have encounter blurry pic prob.. just want to ask your how to do a best setting based on aperture and the shutter speed... as in the manual book say the minimum shutter speed is 1/60 for EFS 18-55mm ( kits lens )... Just want to know how to count ar for the minimum shutter speed?? is it how many mm u using multiply by 1.6?? i have post some picture in page 11 this page... pls give me some comment about that.. sorry for that cause i'm just a newbie and holding the camara less than 10 days...hehe so i want more advices and comment from all the pros... =)

When exactly is the comic fiesta?

ysyeo, the minimum shutter speed depends on what you are shooting and how steady your hands are.
The 1/60 shutter speed is just a suggestion from Canon.
With IS lenses you can even take sharp pictures at 1/10.

your shutter speed should always be higher than the focal length you are shooting at, so if you shoot 55mm your shutter speed should at 1/60. You can go lower by 3 stop if you have an IS lens, lower still if you have a steady hand. also learn how to hold the camera properly and use anything around you as a support for a steady shot.
as for the 1.6 crop, I am not sure if that's is taken into consideration as well when calculating the shutter speed you need to use, need some pro to clarify on this smile.gif

not entirely true..
it depends on the focal length as well.. if u're shooting @ 300mm with IS lens @ 1/10s, chances are it'll still be blur..
slight motions or instability of the camera will be greatly amplified @ longer focal lengths.

the general rule of thumb is if u shoot at 'X'mm, then use 1/'x' shutter..
but most of the time, at short range, u can very well go below the 1/x, or go above the 1/x..
like for example, when shooting at 55mm, hand held shooting @ 1/30s is very much possible, while shooting @ 10mm with 1/10s might have higher chance of blurring..
so it all depends on your hands.. most people can shoot @ 1/60s without blurring, so canon uses that as a general guide smile.gif

1/10 quite high chances of blurring. smile.gif yes, I've tested my lens with stabilizer, you have much better chances when it's

1/15 - 1/20 (obviously) and at lesser zoom range. why? the higher the zoom range, the more amplified is each movement.

Let's say I'm at 300mm, then the shutter speed should be at 1/300?

general guideline.. depends on your other settings / equipment used also..
u can also try to use a slower shutter to see if your hands are stable enough.. depends on individual..

I think it should be 1/(300*1.6) = 1/480 or more or less 1/500 to be more precise.
