Not to sound overly optimistic, but I do believe piracy can be stopped in Malaysia.

I just laugh at this type of news... biggrin.gif

It's hard to stop piracy in Malaysia when 'almost' everyone has the same mindset. No wonder game developers aren't looking at Malaysia as a true 'gaming country' when there are so many talented players...

Let me see... I know about 5-6 places selling pirated games... err 3 places I know sells 100% original games (TSB, PCgame.com.my, Gamers' Hideout). One of the pirated shops was raided. The shop was closed for almost a week and then... BAM! They opened again as if nothing happens.

The only way to stop piracy - - reduce the price (which won't happen).

Localised version is nice, but most of us want the 'original untouched' boxed version.

Huh... don't get me started on "Malaysia's No.1 Broadband Service Provider"... Cevat Yerli/Peter Molyneux/John Carmack/Will Wright should pay a visit to this country to 'see the potential' and 'how much is wasted'...

Note : Malaysia is not the only country with this problem...

we still got torrents, throttling? nevermind, VPN or torrentflux, with the money invested on VPN/FTP server for full speed BT, it'a all worth it

not that I support pirated at all, but I need different flavors of games, sometimes I just play the games once and that's it, so pirated games can help me in this way

i know many LYN gamers are paying for original games, but they also frequently downloading latest english or other series via BT icon_idea.gif
it's not just malaysians support piracy, it's all over the world, different groups of movie rippers, ISO releases, malaysians are just using that and produce on the media disc.

To tell you the truth....

True Gamers Buy Originals.

But if a game isn't worth it and you STILL wish to try it... then.. well....

PS : Has anyone here actually bought a pirated game, felt it was a freakin good game and gone to buy the original game?

PPS : I ran to a game shop in 1Utama that sold Half-Life 2 original after reading the reviews. Back then didn't know about TSB, pcgame.com.my or Gamer's Hideout

Well, not all gamers who buy pirates would know about BT. Some of them are too lazy to wait for the download to be finished (Which makes sense that they opt for VPN and all) so they would rush to the piracy places.

I do in fact buy piracy. But after Gears of War PC, that ori version made me think a lot of times on feeling so good to get an original title.

Previously they targeted those dealing in pirated movies. Nowadays they're targeting those related to entertainment software, specifically games.

the price for games in malaysia is way too high compared to other country.. direct conversion only very costly not including tax and others. not everybody could afford to buy games but everybody wants to play games. that's why demand is always there. dont say like only true gamers buy original..sometimes the one who play pirate is even better than who play original.i'm not backing some pirate or whatsoever, it's just a reality here in malaysia. we live in a peace country with a very high price of goods. i said that because i got a friend who work as same position as me.. same company as mine.. but different place. while i got paid at the same amount as him but mine just in RM and he's in USD. see how was it.

Enforcement's moving up a notch? That's good news, as for once they decided to 'sapu' the nintendo catridges as well. Normally, ppl blatantly sell those in broad daylight.

Games are expensive, it is a fact of life EVERYWHERE. That's why many of us buy second hand or wait for PlayAsia specials.
As for the bolded part, methinks you need to read between the lines. whistling.gif

but if piracy was eradicated here, wouldnt companies like microsoft nintendo and sony officially launch their products here, and we get proper customer service and game prices would go down too?
so yeah, tis better if piracy(for games) is stopped. as for movies and tv shows, i have the internet for that biggrin.gif

Judging by the replies thus far, that is a very big
IF.
Still, feel free to join the fight.

Games are expensive, pirated are cheap, that's why there're thousands of stores waiting to be raided and millions people buying pirates.

I don't condone piracy but that is a sad fact.
