hi there everybody....
let me start by saying that this is one cool thread!!!! currently i am staying in japan and planing to return home somewhere in july i want to bring back my car which is a honda s2000.....(the best car i've ever drive the car is 10years old this year and i got it for about RM35k 3years ago. i really need to estimate on how much i need to pay the gov. in order to bring my car into the country. any idea anyone.... as i read throughout this thread, it seem like it would difficult to deal with import process alone... so i am looking for a forwarder to help me through the process of importing the car and putting it in the road. any suggestion or recommendation anyone..... thanks everybody This post has been edited by pulaup2000: Apr 17 2009, 10:47 AM |

QUOTE(pulaup2000 @ Apr 17 2009, 10:42 AM) hi there everybody.... A 20ft container from Japan to Port Kelang will cost approx. 120k-160k Yen (early last year, maybe much more now). You have to hire a forwarder no matter what, the company that brings/unloads your container from the ship/docks to a warehouse or such, where you'll drive your car and/or unloads your things.» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « 10 year old, 2L.. cheap tax.. worth it to bring back.. lazy to calculate, use the posted online calculator by takuntung...(maybe not working) You need to de-register your car in Japan, give your car plate back, and get a document to export (cannot recall yet, will check) You may need to get a temp plate to drive your car to the docks/loading container (get from Local Ward Office). Get whatever documents your container company requires, usually only the export doc. Chasis No. and Engine no. (You need to copy down, check under hood). You'll get a "Bill of Landing" for you container, that you'll need to pass to the forwarder you hired. ^^ This all you need to do yourself What you may hire, is a Runner of sorts in Malaysia, they do the handling the Miti App, forwarder hire, Kastam appeal, JPJ and Puspakom leg work. Roughly a days of work only. They may charge you RM2k for their services (not including tax, port, landing etc charges)... just their leg work charges. You may get more tax cut if you personally appeal. If you time is worth more than RM2k (or more).... then, by all means hire a runner. You'll need to provide all the documentation to them... thanks for the reply guys......really appreciate it.
OOOOPP! , i check on the net, and the price for S2000 (model april 1999 - sept 2001) is between 3,549,000yen to 3,738,000yen hope that helps you with your calculation.....and could you let me know the tax estimation, so i can have an idea of how much i need to pay. i hope that the figure would look something like RM1*,*** (impossible?) cause i am thinking of changing my clutch before i return home..... ohh yes, would like to know if the 2nd hand price (actual purchase price) is required for the tax calculation. i actually lost the receipt and ask the shop where i bought my car to issue another one just in case.... |

QUOTE(pulaup2000 @ Apr 18 2009, 08:12 PM) thanks for the reply guys......really appreciate it. Rough cal....OOOOPP! , i check on the net, and the price for S2000 (model april 1999 - sept 2001) is between 3,549,000yen to 3,738,000yen » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « Lets say 3.5 M Yen.. after 10 years, depreciation value about 527k yen... Tax (157.4%) about 830k yen.... so very roughly about RM30.2k in tax[+rm2.xk in other charges](in july/aug 2007's x-rates, it would have been about RM24k). nego with custom... you'll probably can get it being cut to the higher RM1x,xxx .... One big excuse is the high Yen rate now. The receipt is not required. Custom has their own price list to base their FOB depreciation calculation. ...Question... hard top or vinyl top??.. Malaysian sun is merciless on vinyl plastics. This post has been edited by BeastX: Apr 19 2009, 08:29 AM |

thanks BeastX
thank you for the tax estimation.... honestly i so dearly hope that the tax would go below rm20k my car has a vinyl top (soft top) ....was also thinking of fixing a hardtop onto it, but just cant wrap the idea of a hardtop s2000. seen a few on the road here in japan.....but it just doesn't look as slick as the merc slr or the Z4. not to say that i am comparing the s2k to the high class Z4 though personally i think the s2k is not originally cut out to be a hardtop 2 seater sports car so now i guess i need to work on my bargaining skills before going up with the custom guys or else no new clutch for me i also realise that i am going to have a problem with the car's stereo. the FM radio frequency range max up at 90MHz......i guess i would also need to get a new stereo when i am home. |

BeastX have done the calculation faster than me!
pulaup2000, IMO, softtop is still the best for s2000. Did ur car come with gps? I notice that some of s2k hav and some don. Wish u all the best for the tax appeal. haha. Kindly keep me update of your final tax amount ok? I'm goin to bring back a s2k in the near future too. |

hmm i would say the tax is roughly at rm20k-25k, given that tax appeal works fine, well this is just my opinion.
regarding your radio frequency, just get a band extender if you love your radio that much. if i were you i just get a mp3 player, less hassle, cool features etc. there are lotsa choices in the market, simple as yeah since you are from japan, would you mind checking the price of 1/100 MG Unicorn Gundam and 1/100 HG Overflag (in RM)? hahahahahahah sorry beastx, couldnt resist the temptation kehkehkeh This post has been edited by graham_flag: Apr 19 2009, 05:05 PM |

QUOTE(yeezai @ Apr 21 2009, 01:26 PM) hmm s2k 35k + tax 25k = 60k...still ok then the one sells here... for a 10 years old Honda.... Where the brand name has a higher resale value (lower depreciation)... It will be worth the trouble to import branded old cars (Merc/BMW/Honda/Toyota/Subaru...) to Malaysia where the tax value depreciation more than the 2nd hand market value depreciation in Malaysia. Do note: No owner transfer allowed for 2 years... |
