Hi everyone.. Thank you so much for contributing to this thread.. I find it very useful and am really grateful..

I am currently studying in the UK.. And will be going back for good soon, if God's willing.. and planning to bring back a car..

So, the AP thing.. How do I apply it from here? Does anyone know whether MITI have any branch here? Or do I just apply for the AP when I am in Malaysia, i.e. while the car is being shipped?

Thanks in advance.. Really appreciate it smile.gif

Own the car for more than 9 months?.... You can apply in Malaysia when you are back while your car/cargo is in transit. takes about 2 weeks for you to get your AP from MITI

Yup. I see.. Thanks, BeastX! That was quick smile.gif

I plan to share a 40ft container with my friend for our cars. I heard it is much cheaper than renting a 20ft container. Does anyone know whether there will be any Custom of Malaysia's paperwork involved here? The reason I am asking is that friend of mine may go back a few days later than me, and thus I am concerned if both of us actually need to be there when the cars are loaded into the container, say, to sign Custom Declaration maybe?

Thanks in advance smile.gif

Should be straight foward all items other than cars should be tax free. Joint declaration of contains in the cargo. Bill of Landings maybe to both of you (or one). The person or persons signed should be there for the breaking of the cargo seal when unloading. When loading you (or your friend) dont have to be present, depending on the container-shipping company, all your cars and things maybe needed to be brought to the loading area/place before hand. You'll need to discuss/arrange with the container-shipping company.

I think you can be present when they load your cargo,. As for me, I trusted the company (no choice actually)... , left the country a week before my 40ft was loaded and shipped.

Sure, the process should take a week, you can apply while it is in transit, the sooner the better, be fore-warned the tax is 221.75% x 3 years depreciation (unless the change the tax rate before/at 2010). ... but I bet your X5 being a left hand drive will be inconvenient in Malaysia.

221.75%.... almost(more) like you pay the price of 3 cars for 1.

If you have a spouse working in canada (proof of employment), you can get another car imported.
the tax is 221.75%? Thought it was going to be around 150%.

Nice calculator takuntung! I tried and here are my findings:

1. The Insurance field cannot be populated. It wont accept anything that I typed in. Default now is zero.
2. Sales tax. Isn't this field supposed to be a percentage that I can get from the link for import and excise tax? The value defaulted in there definitely not 10%. Not sure how this is calculated.
3. Is docket price the same as CIF value?
4. The depreciation discount, is it based on Production date (manufactured) or the model year? My car was manufactured in Oct 2006, but identified as 2007 model.

Using your calculator, I'll be glad to pay the government RM4k for bringing in my X5..which seems too low.

Thanks zemmhassim,
Only 4k for X5 2006 rclxub.gif , I think there must sth wrong when u key in the value.
1. The insurance field is alraedy calculated for u, its 1.5% from (total after all deductions)
2. Sales tax is also calculated 10% from (Nilai Kastam+DI+DE)
3. yup
4. not sure.

I tried to calculate your car tax using my calculator, I assume that when you bring back your car, it is 3 yrs old (48% depreciation), and shipping is from UK, and it is 3 liter engine. The docket price posted by someone here is (pdf file) is RM161499.

The tax before discount is RM 117, 532.99. Where do u get 4 K? rclxub.gif refer here

They tax yor tax/duty... with sales tax taxing all the tax/duty + value... so in the end, the compounded tax is effectively 221.75% for more than 3L

Yup, they tax on tax. Based on caculation here, Duti eksais(DE) is only calculated from Nilai kastam (NK) which is 80% x 15034.04 = RM 12027.23.

But one of my fren was taxed differently last few months.

His DE was based from (Nilai kastam + Duti import) which is 80% x (15034.04 + 4510.21) = RM 15635.4. U see, dekat 3 k lari.

Which method is correct, I am not sure. But there is inconsistency in their calculation. Itu yg saya takut.

I know most people bring back their car wont argue about calculated tax from kastam, but u really should know how to calculate them yourself.

Ada satu lagi kes lagi teruk, I try to calculate based on the eg. above, he should be taxed around 67k b4 rayuan, but kastam kira 90+K, but after rayuan , he was taxed 60+.

so my advise, u should know how to calculate the tax, or roughly estimate your tax, maybe you can save 20k +...for correct tax calculation.

takuntung,

Thanks. My mistake..I did not put the Kadar Tukaran Wang. That means if I am able to get the diskaun individu and diskaun rayuan, it could be well below RM100k! I think it's worth it.

Thanks!

Good Morning Ya'all

I too share the frustration of owning a nice car and will be moving to Malaysia, in fact KK later in the year and am wondering is it really going to be worth my while bringing my pride and joy with me.

I own a Ford Cougar, it was registered in 2000 and has a 2.5 V6 engine. I have owned it for 12 months now and it cost me 1,500GBP. I understand that it was approx 19,000GBP when new, Could someone Kindly advise me as to how much I will have to pay to the Taxman for the privilage of importing my car.

One more question, would it be possible to drive my car on UK plates for any period of time in Sabah.

Have a pleasant day!!

And thanks in Advance...

The usual way to import..
Before you can bring in the car, you would have to de-register the car, your UK plates are no longer valid/have any use.

Tax calculation... use the posted tax calculator by Takutung..

For your info,
Hiring a container to KK would be more expensive than to Port Klang (by RM3 to 4k or more)... unfair Cabotage rules for East Malaysians.

If you need more info on dealing with in KK Sepanggar Port, hiring forwarder, dealing with MITI KK, dealings with JPJ and Puspakom KK I'll PM you.
