QUOTE(schizophrenic @ Nov 28 2007, 04:54 AM)
ap users if having that trouble can always go to their respective service centre
the only reason i said its foc for ori is based on personal knowledge.

i cant say the same for ap as i do not own an ap set.

anyway i've read about people neglecting the gap and a few days later, it came off. no idea if its true but read it somewhere.
better safe than sorry right?
*
lol I was just asking for the opinions and findings of the phones...I know I can have it service but I seriously doubt if there's anyway the NCC people can do about it IF it's a "normal" phenomenon. I've read about the N95-1 slider and seems NCC people are telling people that it's normal. ohmy.gif

Don't get me wrong, I would have bought an authorized set but I certainly don't have enough budget at the moment. However I'm pretty happy with my purchase anyway and for the price I paid I'm happy to pay for extra services/repairs if anything happens. wink.gif

QUOTE(ddww @ Nov 28 2007, 07:12 AM)
opened up? not so geng gua... however i do notice that whenever the phone vibrates, there is weird sound... its the vibration of the up-down-lift-right navigation key.. its somehow a bit loosen...
*
Oh I should have used the word "free up", same to some flip phones it can be tight and firm but will free up and become loosen as soon as 1 week of usage. Yeah, when vibrate there's the high pitch sound exactly how you described, sounds like there's something loosen inside. Anyway the vibration of the N95 8GB is the strongest among the ones I've used. laugh.gif

QUOTE(D-Zire @ Nov 28 2007, 11:03 AM)
i was wondering if the chrome-plated button keys ie the D-pad, call and end keys will peel off after some prolong usage? it would be very unsightly when that happens.... sweat.gif
*
Uh, peel off thing is pretty common for Nokia phones (actually applied to most phones as well)...When the D-Pad peel off already the keypad should be also the same...Anyway if replace they should come as 1 set.

QUOTE(norazwan79 @ Nov 28 2007, 11:49 AM)
Guys...
Hairul sell N95 8GB CSL Set only RM2400...
Good deal!
Who want my N95 8GB Comsat? I sell RM2k. Then I can buy CSL set.  tongue.gif
*
Haiyo if you got RM2400 to spend just go ahead to buy authorized set lo only add another RM400+ since you dumb an AP set no point buying another AP set... brows.gif

Actually my advice is don't sell your phone for no reason cause Nokia phone hoh quality control is not 100% good, even at Singapore people are reporting they didn't get perfect set most of the time, like first 1 got reception problem then 2nd set has slider problem etc...Like mine all function perfect just slider a bit loosen over use and although keypad no chinese strokes but I kinda live with that already lol...But still will change it after few months of use cause don't want void warranty first even though it's AP warranty.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Just want to report that after switching to GSM only network during 5 bars of battery, the battery managed to survive for 48 hours with 2 bars left, that's also with roughtly 30mins of GPS, and everyday normal (light) usage with video/photo shooting/music listening/playing games. laugh.gif

hi guys, so sorry for asking.. Is it advisable for me to flash my firmware to the ori one from the Nokia centre?? I need to pay rm30 for it.. Mine is an AP set from TELSTRA, and i got a little problem here, whenever i want to log into Video Centre in main menu to view My Videos, it kept jump out to main menu again, im not sure what's the problem.. Can help guys?sad.gif
*
Mostly related to firmware, just go flash the firmware lo RM30 is really worth it. Mine also AP and go flashed, it's working very well. Oh yeah guys if you want to check if your AP set is original Nokia phone with correct IMEI, try register at My Nokia, it should identify yours is a N95 8GB with just IMEI numbers.

eh? i thought 3G is the same as UTMS? well...3G IS UTMS...correct me if i'm wrong...
*

Uh did you misunderstood something? The normal network we use is GSM (voice calls, sms, GPRS, I think EDGE as well) so that's why I said switch to GSM only rather than dual mode (means GSM and UMTS). I think if you switch to UMTS (3G) only, you cannot receive normal call/sms but only 3G calls which is the video call as well as MMS. If you use MMS then no choice have to be dual mode all the time lo.

I'm doing another charge of my battery and see if GSM only can last how long. laugh.gif

Correcto mundo! But I tried setting it to only UMTS, when I went back to my hometown where there is no 3G network, my quality of reception is worse than when I set to dual mode or only GSM. smile.gif So, I still say just put your phone in dual mode, because if u put only GSM, it will suck if when you want to surf the internet (max is Edge).

So mine I put in dual mode setting and I set my packet data connection (3G) to when available.
*

Hmm I think UMTS also handle normal voice calls and SMS (perhaps everything that GSM offered). However, there must be a reason for the Dual Mode option exist. I think calls made with GSM only phones cannot be received by a UMTS only phone? I don't think the network can be translated since as your quoted info stated both network are not compatible with each other. I could be wrong, though... hmm.gif

QUOTE(missgeek @ Nov 28 2007, 05:55 PM)
Yup, UMTS can handle the same thing like GSM, just for internet/packet data it is with higher speed smile.gif GSM only phone can't handle 3G/3.5G, which means no video call as the speed doesnt allow video conferencing. The reason for dual mode is of course if you want to use VOIP function of your phone (like Sykpe and the likes of it), which is obviously will use internet connection, the faster the connection, the better the call quality. smile.gif

But I always set it to dual mode because I am using 3G esp in KL I always get the 3.5G speed. Not to say if I use GSM mode I can't go online, it's just really painstakingly slow and in the area where UMTS is not available, your phone reception will suck too. I found out about this when I went back to my hometown. At first I thot my phone got something wrong with the reception because my old phone were working fine. Turned out it's because of my settings, hehe.

Ah ok! Great info! thumbup.gif

Hmm.. I Wonder If You Can Save That RM 30 By Changing The Product Code To The APAC And Update/Reinstall The Firmware With Nokia Software Updater On Your Own... Your AP Warranty Will Still Void If You Flash A Different Region Of Firmware Into It.. (Unless Your Product Code Remains The Same)... Well, I'm Not Too Sure When It Comes To AP Set Warranty, Just A Suggestion Though...
*
You can do that on your own, but have to accept the broken new firmware (no dictionary lol). Not sure if it'll be success I don't have much experience so RM30 to me is worth it. smile.gif

FYI, there is no differences between the firmware that you get through NSU and the one you get from Nokia service centre and the successful rate is 100% if your phone is original and you don't screw up the updating process. I wouldn't waste the 30 bucks if I were you.
*

That said I no experience, don't dare to so...Ay least they're doing hard firmware reinstall. smile.gif

BTW what's the product code for APAC?

But if you buy authorised set, it's not worth to pay RM30 la since you can update the firmware without much hassle with NSU smile.gif IMHO.

Some more the payment is only for 1 time so why not? wink.gif

And, authorized set no need to reinstall firmware... tongue.gif

how to update the software of the nokia n95 to new version?
*

Have to install the Nokia Software Updater, download it via Nokia website. Then connect your phone via USB cable and set it to General profile. Then follow on screen instruction...

Wait for newer firmware first cause the current new one not worth the update.

I've discovered something really funny about the 3.5mm connector...I found out there's problem with the detection of the connector as it sometimes automatically set to TV out or the remote control not working if not insert properly. Some variation and results as below:

1. When you jack in the connector slowly, certain connectors will results in automatically switch TV out.

2. When slowly jack in the remote control, sometimes it'll provide 3 options and sometimes it'll provide 4 options (the extra one is the "headset").

3. If the remote control doesn't jack in quickly before the prompt of the options, the remote function will not work when options pop'ed up.

By the way I find the headphone I have the connector is a little thicker than normal and that connector will sometimes give the automatic set to TV out thing...

All this happened all in a sudden, I'm not sure why. Does this happened to you too?

Added on November 29, 2007, 3:00 amAfter some googling apparently the remote control seems to have a battery inside which will send signal to the phone and tell the phone a remote control is insert. I tried with the TV cable to matter how fast/slow I insert it'll sure ask for options. But why the my headphone giving me the automatic switch to TV out really puzzled me, it's not like the headphone has ID or signature? rclxub.gif

Added on November 29, 2007, 3:25 amNow it seems like whenever I try to insert the remote control it'll prompt me 4 options but when I choose headset it'll still switch to headphone, which seems like a firmware bug to me...Oh well guess I'll have to insert the remote control a little quicker if I want to use it... rclxub.gif

@pigcat

ya... i found out bout this last nite too.. i'll have to plug in the headset quicker if i wanna use headset mode, else it will prompt me reagarding those selection that you'd mentioned... and im wondering too, how come sometime its 3 options and sometime its 4 options? hum... but since you're having the same problem, i guess its normal gua.. tongue.gif

edit : aiks no good, if plug in slowly and if it prompt you with only 3 options, then cant use heatset la... have to change in enhancement menu... very troublesome indeed...
*

I think when insert too slow, the connector only detect 2 area (watch the mini jack got 2 or 3 lines) and didn't detect the headset signal then only give you 3 options lo. But still if you plug the headset until prompt 4 options, and insert the headset fully then choose headset option (the remote control has no headphone connected), the control will also work too but hoh the sound will still play from the speaker but only at tiny volume no matter how you adjust the volume. Very strange...

But then I try to plug the jack at minimum speed if using the headset, scare too hardcore then the jack will become loosen pretty quickly. But I think with the stupid thick jack of my headphone pretty much loosen up the spring a bit... doh.gif ddww did you find the 3.5mm jack tight/moderate/loose with the original headset? Mine is only moderate tightness but I prefer something a little more tighter... ohmy.gif

EDIT: Hmm nevermind I think it's pretty healthy for now cause I can lift the phone up by just holding the remote control when the the headset is connected... blush.gif

Added on November 29, 2007, 8:26 amminde - it's normal that the IMEI doesn't match the box for an AP set. Mine also like that, but the IMEI on the phone appears to be original Nokia phone and can be registered on My Nokia with the correct model identified.

You can try use softwares like "GetDataBack" or "Restorer 2000" to restore your files. Cause unless the memory is formated or overwritten with new files there's high chance to recover your deleted stuffs back. smile.gif

Nothing special la, it's like I want to send you number like "29387492835690182639812758723847639408712" but hard to type it all down, make it into barcode then scan then can immediately know what's inside... smile.gif

Hmm I never activate my A. GPS, only use the normal built in one, the first 2 days the GPS seems to take forever to lock on, then out of a sudden it locked and after that, max time to lock is less than 10mins, normally within 5 mins (cold lock). Then after first success of cold lock, later hot locking only takes like few secs to half a minutes. Lonely San yours is Avaxx right then there should be Malaysia maps already installed. Go to App --> Office --> Barcode scanner, then scan whatever the data matrix barcode you come across. Like the Hatsune Miku (see my sig) package, there's the pink sticker there with a barcode, it contained the URL of the website, instead of print it out, they make into barcode so when scanned the URL will appear. You can create your own with the barcode software and type whatever you like then encode into a barcode... icon_rolleyes.gif
