Hm.. Lacking of HT function? AFAIK, i had been use S478 for almost 4yrs, i never faced this kind of problem before. What mobo are u using? Did u install the mobo chipset driver?

P4 1.8GHzis quite hard to handle the heavy load due to lack of L2, no HT and low fsb(400). this will be quite noticeable when you running multiple tasks at the same time. like what you mentioned, torrenting and copying large size data. how much ram you having now??

driver may be some of the reason. like fylon said, install latest chipset driver will help to boost a bit the performance.

torrenting takes up lots of resources, make sure you have enough RAM. for file transfer, windows startup speed, normal torrenting, the P4 1.8 CPU should be able to handle the tasks just fine. Might be other components that is causing the slowdowns, such as faulty mobo chipset. Me & kabukiawie had encountered same issue on KT2 combo mobos, two same mobo with different HDD transfer speed due to faulty mobo (one very fast read/write, another very slow and take up huge CPU resources). Slow/dying HDD might be the problem also.

Yea. It might be faulty chipset on the mobo which causing the issues. By then, they might be some other reason also such like ram, harddisk perhaps?

Guys, do u guys face something like when u transfer the 1st file (large size files), the transfer speed is damn, but once it done and continue with 2nd file the transfer speed suddenly drop by alot become slow..

No la.. Its my OFFICE OLD SCHOOL laptop! Not mine.. Just i wander why it will like that. Hm.. After awhile 3rd files will be back to normal. It just like this time fast next time slow.. Weird thingy. Well.. Its on 1.8Ghz P4! 400FSB type without HT. 512mb ram.

Lol.. Got $$ then grab that board as backup!

But ur case is weired.I never see this happen before even on notebook.Maybe ur labtop doesn't like odd numbers of files transferring.

@�layerXT ,your proc and mobo combination is fine but the torrent program won't eating up so much of resources when BTing. What Bt software you are using?

Anyone knows how to OC the P4P800-X mobo with SATA HDD?

I tried auto OC 10% and manual OC before, my windows can't boot or will have read/write errors when I boot with SATA HDD... then the Windows crashes ... have to reformat lol ..... but if I use IDE can work woo and boot like normal

Using P4 3.0E Prescott HT, 2GB DDR 400 RAM, WD 250GB SATA II

Any ideas?         

If not I could have been OCing to 3.6GHz now

Yea.. I prefer omega driver as if im using ATi card. Its far more stable then the official one. And drive the hardware in a bette way. Owh? Trying to break 2.7Ghz? Hope to heard a good feedback from u.
P/s: Did u off all the background program before u run the test? It might help in term of reducing ram & proc usage in order to score better.

my psu not loud, just the extra fan that i use to cool down my HDD is loud. will change it tonight.

i think the cpu having bottleneck. hmm.... i know that you have try your best to oc it.

got 1 question, are you running on 1:1?? is it possible that you run it on 4:5??

fylon i got a question is about gc setting on bios,since u have da same motherboard as me....set gc there got a size choosing now it is on 128mb but my gc have 256mb...should i put it to maximum??
