Errr, that is not correct

There is no such thing as a "Sarawak state-controlled IPTAs"

The Sarawak government does 'own' some IPTS'es like Swinburne Sarawak, Curtin Miri, University Technology Sarawak, etc.

But make no mistake, these are very much IPTS'es, with according fee levels. But they accept UEC as one of the qualifications that an applicant can use to enter Swinburne Sarawak/Curtin Miri/University Technology Sarawak. After paying IPTS level fees.

Which are very much more expensive than UNIMAS and UiTM Sarawak, the IPTA's physically located in Sarawak.

Selangor also has their own state owned university, UNISEL, which yes, does accept UEC as a entry qualification. But UNISEL is very much a IPTS.

As to why Penang doesn't have a state owned university, that is a question for their people to ask their government.

From 2026, but yes.

From 2026, the Sarawak Government's Free Tertiary Education Scheme (FTES) will start rolling out.

It is limited to Malaysian citizens who are Sarawakian 'K' residents

And restricted to the 64 courses approved under FTES. So far no details, but public/media reporting seems to suggest "STEM, Law, Medicine, Accounting, and Finance" related courses. No word if it covers post-grad studies, or only under-grad studies.

(BTW, Centexs is not covered under FTES: https://www.theborneopost.com/2025/11/27/sa...cheme-in-2026/)

It 'only' covers fees, so things like lodging and accommodation will still need to come from the student/families.

Also no detail if it covers students who started their studies before 2026, or any age limit

Essentially it is a 'scholarship' for Sarawakian 'K' residents studying specific courses in a list of Sarawak state owned IPTS'es.

It is not quite what the IPTA's offer.

And has nothing to do with UEC recognition (or otherwise).

True to that.

I wonder how come strawberry generation britch and moan so much, shouting unfair bla bla bla.

There are so many opportunities outside of malaysia. Singapore recognise UEC, can get into their local and best Uni as well.

Taiwan, china as well, so many scholarship available.

May be that is why DAP want to take over UTAR that was set up by MCA? By refusing to give government money to UTAR?

A vote for PAS is a vote for DAP? Those DAP supporters should be happy with PAS.

It’s not that the Penang government is unable to recognize the UEC. Students may not be eligible for admission to USM, but state-linked educational institutions should have no issue. The same applies to positions within the state civil service.
