Anybody tried using 256 MB ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3450 from dell studio 15 to play games b4? how is the performance n compared with 256MB NVIDIA® GeForce® 8600M GT, which 1 is better? thx

QUOTE(shawn-mode @ Oct 14 2008, 01:03 AM)
8600 GT is better.
*
QUOTE(jjsia @ Oct 14 2008, 01:06 AM)
Reason? I heard tat geforce 8600m n 8400m have overheating problems oso. so is it advisable to go 4 geforce 8600m?
*
QUOTE(shawn-mode @ Oct 14 2008, 01:16 AM)
8600 is comparable to 3650. 3450 is comparable to 8400. more or less.
you can google down and find the difference or reviews.
yes there is some issue but i am not sure is 8600 is included.
*
QUOTE(astria @ Oct 14 2008, 07:47 PM)
8600M better in terms of gaming performance...

but like i always say, getting any GeForce 8M now is asking for trouble...

for videos conventionally ppl believe ATi is better as it gives better colour... and ATi can do 100% full CPU offload for HD videos as well..

it's rit at the previous page...

pls dig a bit before asking...

Still, 8600m GT is better, both this card is in different class, plus one is 64-bit and another is 128-bit, if I'm not mistaken.

Great thanks.
2nd question is that, is it true that 2.4ghz T8300 cant support up to 4ghz of ram , while P8600 2.4ghz does?
Cause thats what i was being informed that even if i add it up to 4gb ram for t8300, it wouldn't be enabled.

it all depends on the mobo chipset, not the CPU...

PM/GM965 can support up to 4GB...

PM/GM45 can support up to 8GB

just got myself a s42 recently. running on XP 32-bit with 4GB-800Mhz ram.
After my assignment spree, i will post some benchmark here.
Just to let u all get some info, Grid mid setting playable at 50-65fps, but i notice i can only get 25-30fps at night time racing scenes(24 hour race).
I played C&C Kane's Wrath with mid setting, getting constant 30fps, cos the game is locked to 30fps. I tried Crysis Warhead before in Vista(before downgrade to XP), and i was able to get 30fps++ with low/mid setting

I would like to contribute for the performance and benchmark on a laptop. What version of 3dMark should I use?

I'll be able to do the benchmark in about a week time.

i would suggest using actual games, cos 3D marks result are sometimes not that accurate as card manufacturer/driver can optimize their performance for the 3D mark...
try using Crysis, UT3 or other high graphic requirement games..
