Illegal drugs like fentanyl, heroin, cocaine, methamphetamine, etc are different, in that they are addictive and can eventually kill the drug addicts if abused, eg accidental overdose, dangerous delusions/hallucinations, etc..

Most drug addicts start young, eg in their teens or twenties, ie gullible folks who can easily be tricked by drug pushers into becoming drug addicts, eg through peer pressure, pop culture, escapism in dance clubs, etc. Rich and young US drug addicts are long term customers for the Mexican drug cartels = a captive market of repeat customers.
....... IOW, the market demand and supply situation for illegal drugs are not normal, like for knives, smartphones, computers, EV vs ICE-V cars, Nvidia GPUs, critical minerals, crypto-coins, shares, crude oil, gold, etc.

So, apples and oranges or knives =/= fentanyl.

Personally, I support the legalization of addictive drugs because we can buy addictive coffee/tea and chocolate (= caffeine), cigarettes (= nicotine) and alcohol in many countries = more tax revenue for the government, instead of for the Mexican drug cartels and Triad gangs.
