TV can cater max 240V ............ any higher will destroy and burn the component.....

Now your TV component partial will be blacken already if you open it and see...

Correct me if I am wrong here.
If the plug if "off" but not unplug from socket, lightning high voltage surge can still pass through the socket. There is no gap to jump. Therefore, if you unplug from mains socket, any surge will not pass through to yr tv.
*
when OFF , the socket metal contacts separate to break the current flow .
A high voltage surge will spark across this metal contacts ...enough to zap the electronics .

yes unplug if you want 100 % safety.

in theory it should work but in reality all bait only
my dad kena so many times
my house macam lighting magnet, everytime it rains then will trip something
alot of eletronics fried coz of it
buy wtv surge protector lan jiao shit also kena
so much so claim from the surge protector company and all they did was give another of their surge protector like sohai ur product failed to protect my eq, i want u to reimburse my eq not give another of ur lanjiao product
moral of the story is, lightning arrester is the only legit shit
surge protector all talk cock only lol

i suggest you get a certified electrical tech to check the house
power wiring and also the earth rod resistance .
All must be within the recommended specs.

houses that often trip power via RCD need to do the above check .
the power trip already tell you something is wrong.

surge protector help protect from surges and/but the effectiveness depends on the earth rod resistance .

How come there power leakage when plug is off. No such thing. The only way people talk about leakage is on appliance that is never off like when you off using remote or anything on standby. TV is one of them.

Your house grounding is to protect you from electrocution when touching faulty appliances with Live wire or AC short-circuited to appliances body. Protecting house from lightning means you need to install lightning rod on top of your house rooftop and have sizeable copper strip to grounding rod in the ground. House grounding wire is not capable to carry high current caused by lightning.

It's normal la for leakage & power loss for any house. It's no joke.
But the voltage is very low. U only put it to minimum which is tolerable.
However if switch is broken, low quality, wiring no good; then leakage very high.. Light or TV also can cepat rosak when not turn on..
U can see in minute 10:00 in video; there still electric leak (switch turn off)- no light turn on as voltage very low to turn on the light. This is normal.
That's why if long holiday or balik kampung, better pull out Tv plug..

if you leave the plug connected but switched off, the ground and neutral wires are still connected directly to your tv, only the live wire is disconnected. so there's still a path for the surge to hit your tv. best is to unplug terus

I'm not sure what qualification this person has but his description is misleading. I would say it is not correct. The "leak" in this demo seems to me is not about switch leak. Even if you remove the switch and separate the two wires in the switch by few inches apart, you would still get the voltage reading. It has nothing to do with switch.

The phenomenon that we are seeing here is ghost or phantom voltage. Many people do not really understand the difference between voltage and current. It depends on the wiring in the wall. In my house also certain points even get 20V when measured with multimeter. This is the voltage reading but there is almost no power this voltage can supply. It probably can lit the neon indicator on the switch. That is why those switch with neon bulb still lightly lit up when switch is powered off.

The voltage on the wire is induced voltage by the live wire adjacent to disconnected wire laid next to it. In house wiring, you are most likely pull the L and N wire next to each other or they are laid together in conduit including the switch wire. Even when the switch is off, the AC on the L wire will induce the switch wire next to it and generate voltage. Same concept like transformer. The primary winding and secondary winding do not physically connect to each other but the voltage is produce at the secondary winding still. However, unlike the wire in the wall, there are many loops of winding wire that collect much of magnetic flux to generate power or current to power load at the secondary.

I bet if the guy use a LoZ (low impedance) multimeter, the voltage reading would be zero. smile.gif

My Samsung tv 1 of the hdmi port broken which connected to Astro decoder during lightening , the Astro decoder itself gone case .
The surge might pass from other type of connection , not the power cable itself .

i am so confuse. plug already off. already on voltage controller. why still broken after hit by thunder

Old voltage regulator may not be able to sufficiently protect your devices.

Also your TV could also be already on the edge, that power off and on could just be coincidentally broke it.

dei unplug tv saja not enuff, did u unplug whatever the hdmi is connecting to? did u unplug whatever cables thats connecting to ur tv? no right. Lightning travels to whatever thats connected via power plug. Mostly lightly strikes via power plug then hdmi.

worked a few years in an electrical shop...most cases of burnt tv from lighting is antenna - at the area i worked. off power not enough must unplug. most househole surge protector are those cheap type...likely not certifed etc....and those suually get burnt also.

after we install antenna, we always tell owner to unplug everything when raining or lighting...but it happens alot....the antenna mixer and booster also burnt a lot.
