Kena once by one of the company in cyberjaya, same stupid non job related question. One fucking question stuck in my head, "How are you doing during your college years?". Apa lanjial sial question, i do good or bad then how is that even related to this job? Didn't get it btw, couldn't care less about this company. Asking this and that like they're recruiting some sleeping agents for some black ops shit.

when i hire your skill set is secondary, your attitude comes first. infact my company coaches hiring manager to ask questions which may totally blow away people like you.

agree TS isn't hungry enough.. perhaps the said company is really looking for candidates who are so desperate that they are patient enough to go through all those questionnaire which may not even be important for the hiring manager..

just a first step to vet through folks they do not want.

true. its to test how a person react and handle unexpected situations . Trigger-happy , toxic reactions will be vetted out in the selection process to prevent doing harm to the company. this reflects how one behaved in real world situations , like being Karen/ banging table when one of the ordered food is wrong in restaurant.

sadly theres no right or wrong here. today everything is E or Cyber, last time you meet in person, So filtering need to be more stringent.
On other hand, small 1 desk company can seem like so big hiding behind the internet, any chinaman company or kiasu boss or HR will flood everything in one form because is free.

If me the hiring manager, 1st i want to make sure you got what i need. When i ask question about your previous job there's when i will find out either you're qualify or not. Attitude wise i would expect the staff be at least discipline during working hours, basic manners, cooperate with others. If misbehave then me as the leader i will personally deal with it, after all the talks and reminder yet still happen then we ask HR what can we do, termination, warning letter, fail their probation etc. Sound abit harsh but that's the reality, no need to waste more time fixing the unfixable. Yea sure those question might able to determine those candidates before they get hired, but there is still chances of them cakap tak serupa bikin where they behave the opposite from how they answered those questions. You might be asking then how oh? Keep hiring ah? If not those then what else you be suggesting?

What if the staff is a very well experienced? Because that staff failed those questionnaire then you won't be hiring them?

i guess that's why your not the hiring manager. knowledge can be acquired, same goes to experience but not personality.

and to answer you yes if their personality are those calculative, mind my own business other ppl problem let then settle, signs of just do it half hearted, yup even with experience they won't be shortlisted. also never there is a candidate can fit all the bill. I've interviewed many but no one is perfect hence at the end the will to learn all matter to me.

similar to how my boss picked me up and trained me I'm applying the same.

I'll just bail the interview half way.
Sure it will filter out 'unmotivated' candidate like myself,

But for me it also indicate this company is obsessed with overbureaucracy. Not my style.

Say that my department need 1 more staff, pick 1,

A. Experienced staff, fullfilled all the job requirement but personality wise just an average person and not really the happy go lucky type
B. Less experience staff, fullfiled like only 3 out of 10 from the job requirements but personality is the one you guys like
C. Complete package which is rare

Me definitely A, no doubt. I hire that staff to work, if they wish to make friends with other colleague or go play sports or go happy hour or shop trip then go right ahead. As long as you finished your job that we assigned to you, i don't care about your personality.

C, if got then ok because i need is staff who know what are they doing.

B, friendly and positive all the time. No experience i don't mind to teaching them BUT if HR found A or C then i definitely will not take B, A and C came in can start working and need less supervising so why not?

I agreed that personality cannot be acquire like you said but can be change right? Also depends on the person if they wiliing or unwilling to change.

i get your frustration and you know what? the employer probably saw it too. maybe that’s exactly why they set things up this way, to see how candidates handle pressure, uncertainty, or things not going their way. not every test is about skills; sometimes it’s about attitude.

try to see this as a test. do you think once you're hired, everything’s going to be smooth sailing? that every customer will always be nice, punctual, and reasonable?

so when things don’t go your way, is this how you’ll react? complaining, blaming others, and looking for validation from strangers online?

personally, i see all this negativity toward the company as an opportunity. fewer people willing to take it on means a better chance for me.

anyway, just my two cents. wishing you the best of luck!
*
I agree that one should see this a a test. This is a good indicator to filter out companies that do braindead stuff like this. I can accept if this is for an entry level role with thousands of applicants out there, but OP has said that he’s not a fresh grad and the role that OP has applied is not an entry level position. I would say that a better way to assess the applicant’s potential is through interviews. Heck even if there’s 2 rounds of interviews or a case study it makes much more sense than answering questions like this.

People who have relevant and valuable experience will not go through the trouble of answering useless questions like these. Instead, they leverage their own experience and network to get jobs lo. You said it’s good for you since fewer people willing to take it means it’s a better chance for you, I would say that people who are desperate enough for a job will only go through this.

I'm interviewing both countries and have received an online interview with the manager next week. Japan quite hard to find job too, especially with their low wages. Hard to survive over there if they pay peanuts. Been there for a while so i know what the grocery prices and so on.

Hate those interview with all these tests. I once went on one and they want me to create a 10 page slide about their company. Have 30 minutes to do it. I finish in 5 then just feign interest.

If you are really interested to get that job, then answer previous boss shortcoming like this: Previous boss does not give me enough works to do so I am very bored and afraid my skills and knowledge will become rusty over time.
