Summary

The Perak state government will use part of the Friday prayer donation funds collected from across the state to purchase a portion of land belonging to Masjid Jamek Ar-Ridzuan in Alor Pongsu, worth RM1.8 million, from a non-Muslim Chinese owner.

The land issue arose after the grandson of the original waqf (endowment) donor sold part of the mosque’s land to the Chinese buyer, who is now legally claiming ownership.

There is a risk that part of the mosque may have to be demolished if the ownership claim is not resolved, which would be a source of shame for Muslims in Perak.

Discussions were held between the Chief Minister of Perak and key religious authorities including JAIPk and MAIPk to address the matter.

Friday prayer donations across the state total approximately RM5 to RM7 million per month, averaging RM1 million per week.

JAIPk has issued a notice to mosque and surau managements statewide informing them that part of the donation funds will be used to reclaim the mosque land, as a show of solidarity among Muslims in Perak.

Menteri Besar Perak, Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad berkata, isu membabitkan pemilikan tanah masjid tersebut sebelum ini dibangkitkan oleh Ahli Dewan Undangan Negeri (ADUN) Alor Pongsu, Noor Azman Ghazali baru-baru ini.

“Masjid Jamek Ar-Ridzuan didirikan di atas tanah wakaf tetapi cucu pewakaf tersebut telah menjual bahagian tanah itu kepada seorang Cina, maka ia (tanah) didaftarkan hak milik kepada pembeli berkenaan dan dia menuntut tanah itu.




“Kalau tuntutan tidak dipenuhi, maknanya masjid itu kena roboh sebahagian daripadanya. Malulah umat Islam di Perak ini, malulah exco agama Islam di Perak ini,” katanya di sini hari ini.

Beliau berkata demikian ketika berucap di Majlis Pelancaran Kitab Bagi Tujuan Bacaan di Masjid, Surau Diri Jumaat dan Surau Ta’addud Jumaat seluruh Negeri Perak di sini hari ini.

Saarani berkata, sehubungan itu, beliau telah bebincang dengan Pengarah Jabatan Agama Islam Perak (JAIPk), Datuk Harith Fadzilah Abdul Halim; Yang Dipertua Majlis Agama Islam dan Adat Melayu Perak (MAIPk), Tan Sri Mohd. Annuar Zaini dan Ketua Pegawai Eksekutif MAIPk, Syamsul Hazeman Md. Salleh berhubung itu tersebut

Katanya, beliau dimaklumkan MAIPk bahawa nilai kutipan derma solat Jumaat dari seluruh negeri adalah antara RM5 hingga RM7 juta sebulan.

“Ini bermakna ada RM1 juta pungutan (derma solat Jumaat) seminggu. Sudilah apa kiranya nak tunjukkan solidariti umat Islam di Perak ini, supaya wang tersebut sebahagian daripadanya insya-Allah digunakan untuk menebus tanah itu yang katanya berjumlah RM1.8 juta,” katanya.

Justeru, Saarani berkata, JAIPk telah mengeluarkan surat pemakluman berhubung perkara tersebut kepada pihak pengurusan masjid dan surau di negeri ini.


“Sangat malang kepada kita kalau kita biarkan, apatah lagi kalau kita robohkan masjid itu hanya kerana tuntutan daripada orang bukan Islam kerana tanah itu telah dimiliki dia,” katanya. – KOSMO! ONLINE

I thought Tanah Wakaf is filed differently after donated and ownership can not be simply changed (in fact original owner also changed afterwards to Majlis Agama)? How come cucu managed to sell it?

Thankfully the Chinese landowner was willing to sell the land, and the mosque committee chose not to reclaim it by force without compensation.

Still a lot la, to be honest. This is donation ma. Temples usually only major events like Wesak, CNY, etc can have bigger donations. The rest more to donations from those philanthropists and companies.

I am not jealous or against this but in comparison to my Buddhist temple, this is a WOW amount. I really envy !

Was the land a family inheritance from much earlier generations? Did the person who donated the land inherited it or bought it?

It's nice when everyone respect each other and do things in a civil way. Buyer just wants to be compensated fairly, state agrees to buy the land, seek donation to buy the land. All happy and peaceful.

Church is almost same concept as the Muslim here. Every church goers will go very consistently every Sunday mass. And after the mass, everyone chips in the donations plus their monthly donations form salary(not sure if this is being practised here).

Oh, I do. Had this experience when I was in NUS. My roommate is a Christian and he invited me to attend Sunday mass one day. After the mass, they passed a bag around and everyone gave some donations or so. My roommate was nutty and asked me to ‘pretend to dip my hand into the bag as if I am adding cash” but said don’t donate. Hahahhaa… probably he knew I am not well off and are struggling to self fund my studies in NUS, then. It was a nice atmosphere in the church. Very calm and peaceful like all places of prayers.

Good that type m use legal way to get what they want.

1 million donation in a week ? , now it make sense now how come my house 2 km across has a beautiful mosque, the design, the large fan, the meticulous craft, it might cost hundreds thousand.

i think 2 millions per week. that number stated in news is only for friday prayers donation
at mosque , usually they will put donation collection for each day. on friday is the highest and usually friday donation alone is almost equal to sum of donation from sunday to thursday
