i had to interview an old man today he's 48. I'm not HR but for my line of work my boss usually sends candidates to me for interview because i know better than HR in terms of what to ask. only after i vouch the candidate then HR takes over.
so today this guy came with resume but no certificates like spm diploma degree etc etc but in the resume says got. he claimed dunno where he kept because so long never go interview. last position before resign was almost 15years working for the company. reason he resigned made sense but i won't disclose here lah. my question is if you were me then what will you decide? is it normal for old people not to have their certs anymore? mind you this position is not engineering or something of that calibre.
this is my first time encounter this kind. is it ok not see his certs but just take him based on his work experiences? after all he almost going to pencen oredi .

you ask for education certificate?
well depend on which position, if senior position, better check out his previous company if he cooked the resume or not. People rarely check for education cert for senior position

Well if you really want to have him on board, could just say willing to give another interview if he could gather all the necessary documents in X period of time.
Because you also have to protect your job if you let him pass. If he later became a liability, and they found out you did not do your part and you will be in trouble. Sometimes being a compassionate guy isn't worth it if the risk far outweigh the deed.

Maybe try asking for feedback from his reference & past employers. Also technically some certs shouldn't be hard to verify.

QUOTE(LuckyBai @ May 2 2025, 06:03 PM) not a valid reason to say dont know where it kept .. should just ignore as part of the process so true… such important documents cannot keep safely, you expect him to keep the company safely?.. furthermore, will you set a precedent? for accepting based on words?.. i am a stickler for equality and procedures…. so if the basic is not met, especially when he wrote he had, i will dismiss

If your company is iso certified, you will cause HR shitbrix and bring the whole iso audit into chaos. If no external international certification like small cinaman comp, you can make the call

Wah people 48yo you ask for his spm cert?
Itu 30byears ago punya hal weh.
Just give him some practical test to judge his skill then make a decision.
If he still have spm cert, you should just give the job to him for being able to keep papers for so long.

QUOTE(Carlos_Santan @ May 2 2025, 07:14 PM) my colleague also said the same thing. i give another example....these 3 years so many students didn't even attend their SPM so basically they officially don't have SPM cert at all...cannot say misplace already so question is who the F is going to hire them? so my answer would always be hire based on personality and behaviour.....as long can get things done and not troublemaker type...they're better than a lot of workers out there

What role?
Is your HR or customer strict in needing the copy of those degree certs?
Another way is ask candidate to contact his alma mater and ask for letter that verifies the authenticity of a his degree or enrollment
