Looking for small backup drive that can plug into old windows laptop and samsung phone. External hard disk too big for me, need to find something smaller.

Look at nvme + m.2 enclosure, can buy rm290 for 1tb nvme and rm70 for the enclosure. Worth it? Anyone using this for backup both windows and android devices?

I got use origo nvme enclosure with type c. Runs quite warm. Got test with salvaged ssd Kiowa, Samsung and even new Kingston nv3.

Faster than. Pen drive and normal ext hdd. Only the heat problem unavoidable. Case is aluminum.

Interesting. That heat sink inside the case, no air pass through? How hot is it? Just uncomfortable or too hot to touch?

I'm using this method to backup my phones and laptops.

Currently using a 2TB NVME drive with Green enclosure.

Invest more money into better quality enclosures. Some using cheaper voltage regulators which will heat up the NVME and eventually kill it.

See many complain about heat. Is it until throttling or still on same speed? If throttling, how low the speed becomes?

I think about half the size if using 2280 m.2 ssd. Maybe 1/4 size if using 2230 enclosure.

I have been using external hdd and thumb drives since college. Nowadays external hdd not much change, and big capacity thumb drive pricier compared to nvme. Also just want to try new form factor.

if you go with m2 2230 ssd and enclosure, yes it is significantly smaller. downside is the price premium on those form factor.

for the best bang for the buck, go for m2 2280 ssd and enclosure.

you are going to be limited by usb bus speed or the qlc nand chip rather by the ssd controller itself.

I use this Orico 10Gbps.
https://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopi...ost&p=110499693

and this Acasis 40Gbps.

but I think this one is above your laptop's pay grade.
