QUOTE(muman7 @ Dec 14 2024, 10:31 AM) Second that. While the enclosure fan only takes about 2-3C off the SSD temp, those fan can reduces up to 8-10C easily on my case. Getting the big ass heatsink. I find bigger heatsink does work. But unable to use the cover.![]() This post has been edited by yvliew: Dec 14 2024, 10:56 AM jonthebaptist liked this post

QUOTE(muman7 @ Dec 14 2024, 11:17 AM) This is for enclosure or just the nvme? I have one similar on my PC nvme. Dude. The SSD and SSD nand I/O are both your internal. I made this freaking mistake thinking the one is my external. Boy i'm so wrong. I notice my external was scorching hot and it couldn't be 37c.My cheap setup with 2 12CM fans, so effective I turned off the enclosure fan for good. Stil got space for another time machine drive later. ![]() ![]() You need to enable SMART to see your external ssd. Fan can't really dissipate heat faster than a heatsink. ![]() ![]() This post has been edited by yvliew: Dec 14 2024, 01:25 PM jonthebaptist liked this post

QUOTE(muman7 @ Dec 15 2024, 12:16 AM) Around RM360 with fan lol. If I knew the fan has so limited effect on cooling I might just get the cheaper without fan version. What brand is your enclosure? I saw somewhere Acasis use intel tb chip which is a bit slower but has less heat and more stable compare to another mainstream chip by ASMedia. I am using ORICO USB 4 enclosure. Maybe there is no actual contact with the SSD on the cover itself. So not much can heat dissipate. I think if it's able to make contact with the aluminium casing, should be a lot better. |

QUOTE(muman7 @ Dec 15 2024, 08:24 AM) What's your idle temp now? Can stick some thermal pad onto the nvme. The acasis case came with 2 pcs (1mm & 0.5mm). I stick both on the nvme. I stick more thermal pads so it contact the outer case. It improved to around 45-47c. without touching the case, easily go up to 55-60. If put on top of my mac mini, 41-43 lol.. |

Tried playing Windows games through Whisky and Heroic. So far tried CS2, it wasn't smooth. but haven't tried setting it for smooth gameplay. Will try more.
Also played rocket league. Smooth at 1080 High quality mode. Very satisfied so far. Will try more games later. If not using external 1TB. This won't be possible as games are so big these days. ![]() This post has been edited by yvliew: Dec 15 2024, 11:37 PM |

QUOTE(jonthebaptist @ Dec 18 2024, 07:55 PM) Just tested the new 5 Gigabit ethernet adapter I got but on my windows machine. Link: https://www.lazada.com.my/products/i4258248...4071007294.html why 1gbit ethernet slower? Shouldn't be that slow? I get 760mbit/s over my 800mbps internet on 1gbe LAN, mac mini, PC or even usb 1gbit adapter.I'll post more pictures tomorrow on the adapter, for now here's just a simple test i did on my windows machine, and the system will detect the adapter (for mac there is some installation according to the booklet given). ![]() 1 Gigabit ethernet adapter: ![]() 5 Gigabit ethernet adapter: ![]() now this is just simple test, you gotta remember i might be limited/bottlenecked by the cat cable i'm using and also the usb-c on my laptop. |

QUOTE(GregPG01 @ Dec 19 2024, 11:39 AM) HI guys, use your own apple account to buy, go to the educational store and buy, you will go through unidays verification. Use your nephew unidays to verify. After that you will go to check out page. Simple and easy.I am not familiar to the student program by MAC. If I ask my nephew to use his email to buy this device, can I login / register using my own APPLE ID ? Are there restrictions ? |

Gonna try this heatsink and see how much improvement. It was running around 46-50c by its own and I'm not really comfortable with that temp. ![]() jonthebaptist liked this post
