the best solution is using Imou NVR, then use PoE IP cam that support ONVIF protocol.

so that u can remote access using either app.

Just get the Tapo, the overall user-experience is probably the best out there.

I have tested many other brands like Xiaomi, Ezviz, Imou, Amazon, Google, D-Link. While they might be better than Tapo at certain things, Tapo is still the best in overall consideration.

Avoid those OEM brands. They are just unreliable.

i am currently using ezviz setup, able to share why Tapo is better in overall?

I find Tapo to be slightly faster, more responsive and less connection issues.

Not sure about current models but I face the network unstable issue back then due to the poor WiFi signal reception on Ezviz camera.

But, I do find Ezviz seems to be slightly better at dealing with backlight compensation / wider dynamic range. Newer Tapo like the C120/C225 finally caught up in this area.

Basically Tapo's parent company, TP-Link is a networking brand, they seem to do networking better. Ezviz's parent company, Hikvision is a camera brand, they are better at image quality.

Yeah... especially if you also have other tapo products such a led strip/light and smart plug. They even finally accepted Kasa product as well.

Thank you for all the feedback! I'll most likely go for TAPO because it's within my budget and easier to set up based on the feedback

Tapo is ok. Clear and stable.
The cloud part is not cheap though.

For non critical can consider v380 too. Cheap and good

Sorry for the late feedback. I bought the TP-Link Tapo C200C for indoor use and the C500 for outdoor use.

C200C: RM 69 each (3 units)
C500: RM 139 (1 unit)

I also got 4 free 64 GB memory cards! (Only available during Shopee Live).

Additionally, I received a live discount and shop voucher worth RM 43.95.

The total cost, including the shipping fee, was RM 310.53. (4 unit of CCTV + 4 free 64 GB memory cards)

It was a great bargain! I love the Tapo app — the image and voice quality are excellent, and it’s very easy to set up and use.

Not much difference for those IP cam. Around the same for image. Used hikvision, ezviz, imilab/xiaomi and tapo before. But avoid hikvision it was the worst experience.

I stop using these kind of IP cam, i get some ONVIF/RTSP network camera and link with my Synology.

Hi, I plan to do so with Synology, and is currently looking for which CCTV camera to get (which brand & model) for my current renovating house.

I am actually considering Reolink IP POE Camera but I am not sure if it can be integrated with Synology.

I used before TAPO indoor camera but wonder will it look neat with the socket installed near the ceiling for this kind of wireless camera because the adapter will be seen.
Whereas if I go for Reolink / Hikvision IP POE camera, I might be able to hide the LAN cable underneath the CCTV base or maybe can make the LAN cable barely noticeable from far.

Could you kindly share some of your experiences why you stop using IP camera and also how is the overall integration work between ONVIF camera and Synology?

Thanks notworthy.gif

IP cam is for newbie. The only benefit is easy to setup. Quality so so and lack of a lot of features.

I am using some mid-high range of cam, which able to capture opposite carplate at night. For me, i feel it defeat the purpose if the cctv cannot capture the image clear as it is same as it doesnt capture the image.

Lately, i also integrate the system into smart home and also AI detective that filter 85% of fake alarm.

The only downside is, you need to spend a lot. You need high cpu power to support high quality camera and synology free license support 2 cams only.

Appreciate your thoughts notworthy.gif

I prefer to have a CCTV system that really serves the purpose. Still looking around for options, prefer something that is reliable and last long especially outdoor one. Prefer NOT to use wifi one even they are easy to setup. In the end I still need to pull power line, why not just go for POE I think.

I had some Hikvision cameras with NVR, not POE, they last long but image quality not as good.

As for Synology surveillance station that only support 2 free cameras for free, it seems like I won't use it as I might have 16 cameras in total (indoor & outdoor). Also my nas might not strong enough in video transcoding.

Appreciate if you could suggest some CCTV system or camera models, I will looking into it.

Thank you =)

Analog system also uses one single Cat6 cable

1 pairs for data, 1 pair for power, 2 pairs unused

You will need a 12V adapter spliced to pure 12V and GND lead to put the 1 power pair inside, data using so called video baluns for BNC connector on camera and recorder side

China cameras are cheap, quality decent for what they cost, I personally don’t use them as I don’t want China based brands to handle my surveillance and network, personally am using fully Ubiquiti setup (4x cam with recorder+router for > RM3k)

But one 2MP IP camera from Hik costs about RM130, analog sub RM100. Put a few of of them and use their recorder for an overall low cost setup. Main price contributing factor is just the cabling cost

With Hik only hardware for my setup equivalent, sub 1k is definitely more than enough
