-nos-, not said 100% wont bite, but then chance of not biting is more than 90%... they will bite when the time the owner hold them not properly or wat...
or when u keep on hold them while they wanted to explore, they might bite... or the most thing, when the gerbils not bond with u, then they might bite... but all and all, gerbils seldom bite. can said up to 100% didnt bite, jus like mine one... even when my fren hold also didnt bite.... kamikaze, u get wat order from hun oh? tank? or gerbils ? |

from the picture, if i not mistake, left is sp agouti, then center is black, then the right one is nutmeg...
u check the left one see whether the under fur is wat colour, if grey than is agouti. due to he/she have white spot, then is sp agouti. then center obviously is black lo... then the right one u check under fur is it orange? if yes then might be nutmeg... Added on May 18, 2008, 12:23 pmohya, and these r all mongolian gerbils, is not fat tail gerbils, one fat tail is about 2++ or 3++ about the colour of the gerbs jus now, correct me if wrong. masculine, i check back some info, i think yours is not nutmeg, in fact is dark eye honey... nice one...
for the gerbils that u mean 3 like father, 1 like mom, and 1 more to tan... i guess, 3 is agouti, 1 is black then the last one might be lilac, i not really sure about it... need to wait foo for the answer, she more expert in gene, haha... |

phew, scared me when u said bite, manatau is chew...
gerbils is chewer... anything u put inside they will tends to chew it... but not all thing, mostly plastic material or paper or card material they will chew a lot... talk about gerbils bite, as mention in some previous post, they jus nib... if they really really feel threaten, then they will bite or jus run away... most of the time jus nip... u nee to handle the gerbils quite often then only u know how to take the gerbils... those gerbils in pet shop or new, they dunno about u, so thought u a big monster for them, then they jus run lo... |

masculine, finally u find the pet shack, i thought u go there b4 one?
yaya, some of the gerbils dun like the vege powder, since they not vege type one. yaya, the thing is that u need to monitor it, no matter is the mother or the pups... for mother u need to check whether she have to sufficient nutrition and energy to take care the batch of pups. then for the pups, u need to check whether they get to nutrition they need.. |

QUOTE(JonYeap @ May 27 2008, 11:21 PM) how do i put my gerbils with other ppl gerbils? i plan to get 2 gerbil from my fren. will they fight when i put them together? jus refer to the 1st page, there got a lot info.it is call introducing process. if without proper introduce, will have a gerbils war. way on how to do introduce got at the 1stpage. QUOTE(kelvin_faye @ May 28 2008, 11:58 AM) update on the 1st batch pup... 3 male Agouti : A B C A always the first to come to me.. lick2 my finger.. just sit and stand on my hand when i pick him up.. the largest of them.. yet the sweetest!! B always cleanse his fur n others too.. likes to lick2 pups too.. n will try to pursuade me to take him out, only then try to come off from my hold.. noty noty!! C always the first to eat the treats i put in the dish.. any food, he is the first to grab them.. then he will like promote to other sibling how good the food is.. only then the others dare to eat.. haha 1 female Agouti : D always run away whenever i try to hold her.. haha the second smallest among them.. really follow whatever mom does.. lick2 pups, jump to get out of tank whenever i open the cover, take bedding back to pups nest, etc.. following her mom instincts.. always stick near to mum.. hehe 1 male Black : Blackie : the smallest among all, and the dearest to the new pups.. aways take the pups n put under him to keep warm QUOTE(kelvin_faye @ May 28 2008, 01:38 PM) JonYeap, what colour are your pair? and the female u getting from ur friend? hehe woah, not bad wor, detail up on the lifestyle... keep it up.i am soo curious bout colours rite now.. addicted d.. plan to find all the colours available.. hehe impossible i think.. so now u like addicted to breeding gerbils with gene already is it... not bad not bad, i long time wan to breed one, but then due to the place and also the time then i prefer duwan unless i get my own house next time lo. QUOTE(JonYeap @ May 28 2008, 02:13 PM) oh ya, my mum said the gerbil gave birth 3-4 times. but all die. covered by bedding... zzzzzz.... dunno wats the course of the death. this time i am bringing my gerbil along with me back to my uni. can give me some tips on wat to do when got babies? tips ar... need to refer to information lo...but then most of the reason is that the mother lack of nutrition to support the pups, the nutrition she have jus sufficient to support her own so she abandon the pups, that's is wat i think. there got few other reason, but mainly u need to check on the gerbils itself. QUOTE(abang brother @ May 29 2008, 08:07 AM) yaya, they do eat mealworms, but it depends on the gerbils characteristic, some of them eat, some of them not.for mine one, some of them eat some of them not, and special is where my yuki and kioko like mealworms a lot, sometime when i give them small cricket, they sapu also... QUOTE(JonYeap @ May 29 2008, 02:39 PM) QUOTE(JonYeap @ May 29 2008, 06:29 PM) for protein right, u can feed via mealworms, dog/cat kibbles or even animal milk powder.for mealworm, when u give, eventually the gerbils become big, but then more likely become fat compare to have more protein as tikusniaga said, mealworms have more protein compare to fat, is true on statically, but that is the larva itself, havent count in the immune and digest system of the gerbils, which that nezu said that mealworms have more to fat i previouly not believe, so i try on my own, the gerbils do become bigger, but then not strong, u can feel the fat, so later i reduce the mealworms already, now ok already, if not, obesity. dog/cat kibble can give also, but same thing, depends on the gerbils characteristic, gerbils mainly on grain, so sometimes a lot of them dun like dog/cat kibble, jus like mine, all dun like. for the animal milk powder, i havent try it b4, but then due to research, it can be given, and mostly the animal will accept, since is made for animal. and from there, it can gain more compare to get from grains or larva. |

got dog kibbles, dun get alpo, those alpo or pedigree which sell in supremarket one ar, and is made from thailand ar,
not good for gerbils, coz due to dog if they keep on eating, will get rock liver, sort of. get a better brand for dog/ cat kibbles. andfor the food be be burried under the bedding, is usual, and is normal. if u see a gerbils didnt use bedding can cover the food or anything, that is abnormal... dun worry about that, some times u jus dig out the bedding and check whether they still got food or not, if not then jus put again the food. |

hhaha, nice joke with the over feeding of your family...
for the food dish right, u can diy yourself so that the food bowl is hanging on top, then u wont scared the bedding will get inside the food dish lo... if u duwan food dish, then u throw inside, once in a while u go and dig up the bedding, then check whether still got food or not... other than u can jus put in every few days one once or per week with certain amount of food. depends on how's your gerbils eat... for me i always put amount for 2 till 3 weeks...then after that refill back again lo... |
