Hi any1 can share some tips of introducing 4 male gerbil into a 1.5feet guppy tank?
I helping one of the lyn member to take care of her gerbil for 2weeks
Originally she have 2 male gerbil in a tank and other 2 in their individual tank cause they fight with each others
I'd observed stress and depression in those tat are in individual tank so i decided to try reintroduce them into a bigger tank once i get the consent from the owner
Hope i can get some advice from the senior here smile.gif

use the netting way? but 4 male gerbils, better to get a 2ft tank cause 1.5 feet would be too small for 4 adult gerbils. and if there's not enough space, they will get territorial.

if change to a 2 feet tank, then you put the wire grill in the middle to seperate them. lets say you intro 1 by 1. so you put 2 at << side. and 1 at >> side. let them see and smell each other. then everyday you change their side. then after few days, if they don't act aggresive, then take away the mesh and observe. make sure they get along and don't fight.

then do again with the another individual one after they settle down. good luck. wink.gif

try trading beddings?

take beddings from cube A and insert for the gerbils in cube B to use,

and vice versa,

probably they can recognize each other scent beforehand and actually compromise with each other?

just my none-cents

Its usually very hard to introduce 2+1+1 adult gerbils at the same time. I would suggest introducing 2+ 1 first, using split cage method. After every 3-4 days put them together for a few hours and monitor for any fighting then put them back to different sides of the split. Repeat for like 1-2 weeks. Then later on repeat for 3+1 using the same way. 1.5 feet tank is too small for doing a split cage though, a 2 feet tank would be better.

Some fighting might break out during the 1st few intros. Better get some thick glove or cloth ready. Gerbils may bite humans by accident if interrupted during fighting.

If its too hard to intro all together u can just intro the individual gerbils and keep 2 tanks of gerbils lor... sometimes the whole intro process takes more than a month... depends on ur luck.

lolx. good luck with that. make sure you observe them after you take off the grill. cause they might end up in a fight. if they do, toss a piece of cloth on them and take them off. then try to reintro again. keep trying. thumbup.gif

Any Recommended cure?

Story;
I came home from college seeing it stuck there struggling (this is the possible reason hw it got it's mouth wounded so badly)
so i quickly pushed it out.
Reason it got stuck: Tooth got caught at the wires
Should i apply some medical cream for it or any solution to help cure this poor guys wound??

yes it is. I went to custom the cover cause there's no cover for this tank. Any idea for a better cover i can make in Penang?
I think it jumped up an chewed the wire then went too deep and got it's tooth stuck there. While trying to escape, it struggled and tore it's flesh. =\

CAN I USE SAVLON ANTISEPTIC CREAM FOR IT'S WOUND?

sigh poor guy. i'm not sure weather the salvon antiseptic cream. but best is to bring to a vet to check. or leave him alone and see if it gets better. cause my gerbil once scratches herself but 1-2 days later she's ok already.

Yes, u can dab Savlon Antiseptic abit using cotton bud. Before hand, dab the bud with some clean water to clean the area, then only apply antiseptic.. If the gerbil has some sort of infection, better seperate from the cage into a tank. Coz we wont be sure.

Hi there,

One of my gerbils (Biscuit) passed away a few days ago, leaving poor Smoky lonely and sad. I'd like to introduce another pair of gerbils (as he's already 2years old) to keep him company, but I don't want to buy them from the petstore - I'd rather adopt a pair.

I'm not bothered about colour or age, I just want 2 friendly little males to make Smoky happy. Please do PM me if you have any up for adoption - I don't want to leave my poor boy alone for too long ... sad.gif

Thanks for listening!

there are not 'friendly' gerbils, any gerbils from difference clan need intro smile.gif a gerbil from a good temp line will make u easier to intro. but still you canot skip the intro part.

Found this in youtube while going through some cute gerbil videos.

The lyric goes :

Gerbil little bumkins
Fuzzy little funkins
Jumpin' and a Thumpin'
All the live long day.

I am not sure if this have been posted in here but that video just made me wanted to keep gerbils as pets even more.

aww thats so adorable. but the tank is too small for all of them. not to overload your tank with gerbils or else they will fight because they are territorial.
