you wan to keep a breeding pair? i suggest not to. cause gerbils is easy to breed, not say very easy, but still...
so suggest you keep in same sex pair, male male or female female.
since you are new in keeping gerbils, so is advisable to be like that.

you can go to breeding progress once you know all the gene about the gerbils, that need a lot of reading, if you don't believe, you can ask kelvin or dien about it.

just keep it in same sex pair, and not mind if i ask, where you going to get your gerbils from?
prefer you get from breeder over here, like kelvin.
cause most of the pet shop one not healthy and the gene of the gerbils is off the track already, a lot of them is inbreed one, so easy to die, easy to get sickness and all.

just read through the 1st page, all info are there, even if you want to DIY some stuff like showed there also can, cause me myself diy the water bottle cage and the wheel.

gerbils is totally different with hamster (correct me if wrong), they are not smelly at all, you can smell it, after like 2 month or 3 month then only got smell, as for mine is like that, but i change the bedding every month.
since it is sort of desert animal, it can stay without drinking for few days, gerbils do drink water, but it can 'tahan' if there is no water supply. compare to hamster, you are hamster owner, you sure know right. i have hamster as well, so compare it, woah, but too bad my hamster die of old age already. gerbils also is social kind pet, you can pet it and all and gerbils not so bitty compare to hamster, gerbils seldom bite, can be said none, unless being attack or provoke. there got lots of benefit, you read through this thread then you will know.

ya, is ok to put a pair males or a pair females. if you get both males from separate place, you need to do some introduction, cannot straight put together, will have some fight and sometimes it lead to dead. the info about introduction to gerbils already written in 1st page.

just get from breeder in this forum,like kelvin or nezumitaro and few others. the price is way different from outside. if i not mistaken, if the price not change, one pair is just about rm 40 from breeder. last time got 3 gerbils of mine bought from pet shop, each cost rm 45. some of it goes to rm 60. i not sure about kl area now.
