winner: got freebies for MBB Petronas ar? I didn't get any, guess I got conned again?  doh.gif

Did you tell them you want your "feng shui" number, JK.
*
Last month when I was at Petronas using my SCB Just1 cc, an agent came and approached me for MBB Petronas. He offered me either RM100k insurance coverage or a chess set, but I declined.

I never know that we can choose the number for cc. Gosh...all my current CCs, namely Citi, Alliance and SCB end with number "4".

You don't wanna wait for MBB treat fair on 23rd this month? Amex Gold cc may be highlighted and you may also get some freebies during the fair. Most importantly, MBB will process your application and gives you instant approval on the spot, as informed by some forummers here. I'm not a big fan of MBB but I think those who are interested in Amex cc can seriously think about it.

Anyway talking about numbers, I love my AMEX Charge Card Member Since: 88

How lucky you are! Actually, I'm not superstitious about numbers. Just don't really like to see "4" as ending.

@winner,
I don't think I be around that weekend; going over to Ipoh for a wedding so may not be able to make it for the Treats Fair though it'll be good to see what's being offered *smiles*  Also, I don't think I'll have problems with approval biggrin.gif
*
Ok, it is just an assumption. If you apply for the cc now, MBB may take 2-3 weeks or even longer to process your application. You may not be able to get your cc by end of July. Anyhow, you have no other choice. I also don't think Amex Plat cc holder will be rejected for Amex Gold cc. You're more than qualified for Gold. tongue.gif

If your happen to have AMEX charged card with the 4 ending, call CS and say your card spoil or damaged, they will sent you new card with new number. No kidding. As for CC, I know UOB will give you new number if card damaged. For other cards report stolen, 100% you get new number.

As for 0%, the CS told me all transactions will be interest free until end of year i.e. pay minimum and the rest outstanding not subjected to interest charges.
*
This not only pleases those who always pay minimum, but also benefits people who make payment promptly like us. I got a 3-month interest free when I got my Alliance cc early this year. I reserved the fund in the FD and earned some interest for that tenure. You may think the interest is peanut but if you make big purchase, a few hundred RM of interest is better than nothing. tongue.gif

I agree with you fully but with my CL I will be getting less than a couple hundred RM interest from FD, if they give me more CL than I can earn more interest from FD or elsewhere smile.gif
*
Oh...I should clarify that the few hundred $$$ I earned from the interest of FD for a 3-month period with Alliance not only consist of reserve fund to be settled for cc, it also comprised part of my savings. Hey...with a low interest rate of 2% pa, how to make a few hundred RM for the few thousand RM I spent in just 3 months? Nontheless, given your age, I'm very sure your bullets parked as FD are much bigger than mine! biggrin.gif

I think Mastercard and Visa also convert the foreign currency to USD. Then from USD to Malaysian Ringgit as well. No difference to American Express.

On top of conversion, majority of credit card add in 1 or 2% of transaction or processing fee to your statement. The only one I know that don't is Alliance Bank.
*
I always use Alliance cc while travelling abroad as there's no admin fee on currency conversion. With reference to the latest statement from Alliance, the last page indicates the following:
"Foreign currency transactions will be converted to USD through VISA/MC International. The USD are then converted to RM on the date of posting."

However, when I checked the statement, the transactions made in Shanghai last month only show single conversion, viz Renminbi => RM. Perhaps details of currency conversion are not shown in the statement? Anyway, let me check my SCB acc when the statement arrives, as I used the cc in Singapore and Indonesia yesterday.

I don't think the transaction of the conversion is recorded on the bill.  Alas, I've only used my Amex to purchase stuff in USD hence am not too sure (things paid in USD don't haf double conversion mah!) smile.gif
*
Well, transaction made in USD is straightforward as it only involves single conversion. This reminds me that a lot of countries like India and Vietnam do accept USD as main currency apart from their local currencies. Next time I should request that hotel and restaurant bills be done in USD when I am in these countries, to avoid double conversion! tongue.gif

QUOTE(tgeoklin @ Jul 11 2009, 09:43 AM)
Actually the correct method wold be to use your Amex and Visa/Master at say, S'pore and buy the same item say you buy 3 bottles of Johnny Walker from the same shop and use each card for each transaction. That will show you which one is having hidden charges  biggrin.gif
*
Hey...One person is entitled to 1 bottle (1L) of liquor at duty free shop if you wanna bring it back to M'sia.

I'll wait till next month when I travel to Bahrain and try to use different cards on the same day. smile.gif

You should try Shangrila or Crowne Plaza, not far away from Concorde. As it's on company, you can earn more MR then. tongue.gif Btw, I heard the newly refurbished Hardrock @ Concorde is very nice. I haven't had time to check it out yet.

The hotel has been undergoing a major renovation at different stages. You should check it out! sweat.gif

Although Le Meridian and KL Hilton are quite nice, the location at KL Sentral is a bit off.

Some car dealers accept both credit and charge cards for booking fees. Good luck! nod.gif

What kind of car ? BMW 5-series ? I don't think you can use Centurion for down payment at Toyota or Honda Malaysia.

Not really. Hilton KL is actually much cheaper than Shangri-la.
*
For Honda Accord, one of the dealers I know allows customers to charge up to RM3000 using cc for payment of booking fee without any surcharge. My sister did that recently. In fact, before the purchase, she made a survey on a few dealers and found that some dealers impose surcharge on booking fee.

If you compare apple to apple, Hilton KL's room tariff (corporate rate I mean) is slightly higher than Shangri-La. I know this as the secretary compiles the rates on a monthly basis for my company's guests from overseas. For 5-star hotel located within KL Golden Triangle, we normally recommend Crowne Plaza or Prince as the corporate rate is 10%-15% lower than others.

There is surcharge 2.75% credit card anything above RM10,000. One of the car dealer allowed down payment up to 20k.
*
Wow...shocking.gif the surcharge is even higher than spending in overseas using Amex. In that case, you'd better use cash or cheque, or ask another dealer who doesn't impose surcharge.

But you still can swipe your cc for up to RM10k without paying surcharge?

Yes. According to the merchant no charge below RM10K. But I still remember when I use my centurion here (Sydney) there is no surcharge even the transaction is 12K AUD. I guess it been set by merchant who are trying to taking advantage on us. Can will file a complain on their merchant bank? Is this consider fraud ?
*
I doubt you'll be wasting your time by doing so. Btw, what car are you buying? Charging 10 grand using cc is considered good considering that a lot of dealers allow customers to swipe cc for a few grand only. It must be a big car, right? tongue.gif

@vampbreak,
It sure is nice if we could make big purchases like cars and houses via our Amex.  Unfortunately the system is different in MY - people just don't care about service rendered.. they look at the amount they've to pay to Amex and thus tell U to bear it - that's just the reality of life; even if the merchant should be absorbing those costs.
*
Recently I went to visit a show house around KLCC. The developer allows buyers to pay RM50k (part of the 1st 10%) via cc. Just imagine, if it is the property you wanna buy and coincidently there is promotion like 5x points or 5% cash rebate, you can actually earn quite a bit.

Just wanna inform that most of the big developers permit buyers to pay booking fees through cc. As Gamuda is a big company, I thought they should have this kinda facility. Btw, which project did you enter? Valencia or Kota Kemuning?

OIC. I thought you really bought Jade Hills. And now, I know which one you invest. smile.gif Your entry cost must be high. But don't worry, it's a sound investment as new G&G projects always command high premium. Congratulations!

As far as I know, bigger developers nowadays accept cc payment for the booking fees.

I nearly bought one last week. The developer only allowed me to swipe 5k and I asked for 15k. Still pending decision.
