Sorry, I should have make another thing clear, beside not wanting MBB logo. I also do not want to have a Maybank account because I already have too many accounts and find it hard to keep track of them all. The link you provided says i must have one. Hence thinking of getting one issued by American Express itself and then go to Maybank to do monthly card payment using my other bank's cheque.
Only foreigners who wish to apply for the AMEX Gold credit card must open a Maybank account.

This is interesting. I thought credit card is credit card but it seems some are not as useful than others. Now I am having 2nd thought as to the usefulness of AMEX. Imagine going traveling and merchant not accepting it here and there.
This is where VISA and Mastercard come in handy tongue.gif

QUOTE(knwong @ Sep 9 2009, 09:32 PM)
i owned the amex gold charge card. it claimed it has no credit limit. eager to try that out last time when purchasing new car for my sis a month ago. in the end i still resort to old banker's cheque payment. anyone ever swipe 5 or 6 figures amount with your amex charge card? interested to share?
In the States people use AMEX charge card to pay for private jet plane bill as well as to pay for Bentley, Lexus etc. You might want to give it a try biggrin.gif

QUOTE(vin_ann @ Sep 9 2009, 10:03 PM)
btw,

did any1 have tried on the Amex online paying?
You mean paying your AMEX via M2U ?

There is private jet charter service in Malaysia. The fee is HUGE. It costs >100k from KL to Middle East. tongue.gif
This cc gives good rebate for GE premium but small percentage of rebate for other transactions, and no reward points will be given.

It is FOC for 1st year. Request for AF waiver for second year onwards WILL NOT BE ENTERTAINED. See the link below.

http://ocbc.com.my/personal-banking/Cards/FAQWebR1.pdf
You can get the annual fee waived every year actually. My dad has one OCBC/GE Mastercard and he never paid any annual fee for the card. Been using it for more than 4 years already.

QUOTE(bingozero @ Sep 11 2009, 11:24 AM)
Ya,  you to pay the amount in FULL using cc, then LHDN will come to find you  biggrin.gif
So swap and plan wisely  blush.gif
Not if you have proofs that you can actually afford to pay for those luxurious items in cash at one go smile.gif

By the way, apparently now Public Bank credit card processing terminal can also recognize AMEX. Kinokuniya bookstore recently changed their credit card processing terminal from HSBC Global Payment to Public Bank's. While Public Bank credit card processing terminal now accept AMEX, it really is up to the merchant whether they want to accept AMEX or otherwise.

Although AF waiver can be considered by OCBC, I really don't like the way OCBC put this phrase in the T&Cs - "ALL ANNUAL FEE WAIVER REQUEST WILL NOT BE ENTERTAINED". It sounds arrogant.  whistling.gif

http://ocbc.com.my/personal-banking/Cards/FAQWebR1.pdf
OCBC is not big on credit card business, just like our very own Malaysian Public Bank sweat.gif

i thinks kinokuniya got 5X rewards right?
Yes, only for AMEX Gold credit card (without the Maybank logo) though.

QUOTE(WoodStock @ Sep 15 2009, 03:53 PM)
is it possible to call Amex to increase my credit limit to 10k??
You can put in the request. However it doesn't mean you will definitely be granted extra CL. Always worth a try if you really need it.

I want to pay my AMEX gold cc statement bill, while I going to ATM machine, found that it should enter the 16 digit of cc number, but AMEX show 15 digit number, what should I enter in the last blank? Just ignore it?
You can't pay for your AMEX Gold CC (the one without Maybank logo) via any Maybank CDM. Not really sure if you can transfer money from your Maybank savings/checking account through the ATM but last time i always helped my mom to pay her AMEX Personal charge card bill over the counter. But since it is always hard to find a parking space at the Maybank building, i decided to apply for a Maybank savings account. Now i usually go to Maybank at night to deposit some money into my savings account, then i will go home and transfer the money to AMEX via M2U. It is so much more convenient this way tongue.gif

QUOTE(sherrina @ Sep 18 2009, 09:46 PM)
I applied for it coz of the 9% per annum interest which is lower that any other visa or mastercard. But now I realized that not many place accept it. For example this evening I went to TM Point to pay bills. They tried my Amex, cannot. I have to use my other Visa instead. The night before I already called Amex CS and asked bout it. They said the Maybank Amex CC can be used at any terminal that accept Visa and Master. But it failed at Telekom.

I tried to find list of places that accept Amex so that I can plan my shopping in advance but failed. Is there anywhere in the internet or website where I can find them?

TM Point doesn't accept AMEX. You need to look for the AMEX logo or you can just ask the cashier whether they accept AMEX or not. Anyway, below is the list of merchants that accept AMEX.

- Kinokuniya Bookstore
- MPH Bookstore
- Times Bookstore
- Carrefour
- Giant
- Tesco
- Cold Storage
- Guardian
- Watson
- Parkson
- Isetan
- Jaya Jusco
- Metrojaya
- Uda Ocean
- Shell Station
- Petronas (**need to pay at counter)
- ASTRO (**over the counter, by phone or auto-debit only)
- Speedy Video
- SONY STYLE
- DELL
- Chocolates shops in KLIA
- Certain cafe outles in KLIA
- KLIA Express
- KLIA Airport Limo
- Air Asia
- Well known hotels such as Mandarin Oriental, Hilton, Hyatt, Le Meridien, JW Marriott, Westin etc.
- All major hospitals
- All the high-end retail stores in KLCC, Pavillion, Mid Valley, The Gardens etc.
- Most major restaurants such as Pizza Hut, Sushi King, Amarin Heavenly Thai, C-Jade, Athena etc.
- Starbucks
& many more. Just that i couldn't remember all at once.

TM only accept AMEX for auto-debit.

A big mistake, obviously. You should always carry a VISA and/or Mastercard with you all the time, along with your AMEX. But at least you have the SONY VISA smile.gif

Since I own Amex Gold charge card that invited by Maybank, I don't see there is any big difference among the two cards except that we can pay minimum amount on credit card instead of must pay amount in charge card.
The main difference would be the point earned. AMEX Gold credit card gives you 5xMR points at selected places whereas all other range of AMEX do not.

Another difference is the no pre-set limit feature for your charge card.

QUOTE(angle45 @ Sep 26 2009, 04:38 PM)
At end of August I submit tru bank but rejected.. when I can reapply for AMEX?? thanks
You can only reapply 6 months later.

QUOTE(clicker186 @ Sep 26 2009, 05:59 PM)
So everyone will have different CL? Any idea what is the CL range then? Is it same for all bank base on Cc type?

It could be RM5000, it could also be RM30,000. Someone here who successfully applied for the AMEX Gold said in the credit card thread that his credit line for this newly approved AMEX Gold is comparable to his existing Platinum credit card.

QUOTE(angle45 @ Sep 26 2009, 04:38 PM)
Does the rejection comes with reason?

The bank will not give you any reason why did they reject your application. Certain banks will even send you a generic rejection letter but they won't tell you what the reason is.

QUOTE(angle45 @ Sep 26 2009, 06:22 PM)
I guess may be I submit 1 and half month pay slip only. Plus my payslip was print out and verify by FINANCE DEPARTMENT only......GUESS ONLY...I wan to reapply...I think this time I submit 3 month and ask finance to give me carbon type payslip to secure. My PA is ~31k.....can someone advise if this PA would I be able to get AMEX card?
You can only reapply 6 months later. That's the rule.

So can say there is no boundaries for CL? Heard from friend it is 2.5 from salary?
It should be 2 - 3 times of your salary but not everyone applied for a credit card using salary slip. Some got pre-approved complimentary Platinum credit card from their banks and the credit line usually is pretty high.

The maximum credit line for each Platinum series credit card brand is RM300,000. For instance you have a Platinum VISA and Mastercard Platinum, both issued by Hong Leong Bank. The maximum credit line possible is RM300,000 per card brand. Assume that Hong Leong Bank gives you the maximum credit line possible for your both Platinum VISA and Mastercard, your total combined limit from Hong Leong Bank for your credit cards is RM600,000.

QUOTE(clicker186 @ Sep 26 2009, 11:54 PM)
If not mistaken AMEX Gold is charge card without CL, only AMEX Gold CC is CC with credit, correct?

Yes. Not pre-set spending limit that is.

QUOTE(clicker186 @ Sep 26 2009, 11:54 PM)
If mine got rejected, 6 months later maybe not interest to apply anymore  laugh.gif
Oh ... how so ? I can't apply for a AMEX Gold credit card now. Have to wait till August next year. Still a long time to go but i'm 99.99% sure i'll still be interested in this card then.

Is it because the 0% finance charge will be over then ?

600K CL is so cool, but who will spend so much?

Many actually. Such as Yeoh Tiong Lay's grandchildren, Robert Kuok's children just to name a few laugh.gif

QUOTE(clicker186 @ Sep 27 2009, 08:34 PM)
Why you need to wait until next year august to apply? Even got reject can still reapply in 6 months time right?

Because my credit card is brand new and i need to wait till it is 1 year old before i can use it to apply for other banks' credit cards.

QUOTE(clicker186 @ Sep 27 2009, 08:34 PM)
After 6 months maybe i have other CC in my wallet already. So not intend to thicken my wallet with extra card. laugh.gif
The perks associated with the AMEX Gold are very enticing. I am so getting that card next year tongue.gif

Just so you know, i was a AMEX personal charge card user (supplementary given by mom) but she is going to cancel it as soon as she receives the bill for September because she doesn't want to deal with anything related to credit card/charge card anymore. Since i am now eligible for a credit card, she asked me to go get it which i did and i got 2 now. Going to use that to apply for AMEX Gold credit card next year.

However, i start to love my Maybank Amex now... much better rebate/reward scheme... it's about 2.3% cash rebate for me this month (of course, redeem my reward point at 200 point/RM1). Too bad that Amex is not popular in malaysia.
Based on 200MR = RM1 the exact rebate should be 2.5% for petrol, supermarket and bookstore transaction (**selected). All other transactions will earn you 1% cash back.

1. The max CL for a Plat cc issued in Malaysia is not RM300k. In fact, it is much higher than that. I know Citibank can give a CL of up to RM450k for a Plat cc, be it a VISA or MC.

Oh ... Citibank issue both VISA Platinum and Platinum Mastercard to the customer ? I think i should ask the HSBC staff if i pledge my RM1 million of time deposit to get a secured VISA Platinum from them, will i be given RM800,000 of credit line for the VISA Platinum ... Hehehe ... Oh by the way, no. I do not have RM1 million of time deposit. I mean just try to ask only to find out if there really is no maximum credit limit imposed on each card brand laugh.gif

QUOTE(winner @ Sep 30 2009, 10:30 PM)
2. CL is shared among cards, and allocated on individual basis. If you have a Plat VISA with a CL of RM300k and you apply for an additional Plat MC from the same bank, your combined CL will still be RM300k upon approval. Some banks may increase you CL if you apply for more cards from the same banks, but the combined CL could not be 2x times higher than the original CL if the original CL is already at a skyrocketing level.
Actually i have a HSBC VISA and HSBC Mastercard. Both cards are given single credit limit. I was told they couldn't combine the credit line of these two cards. Basically both cards are of the same status smile.gif

The rate is based on AMEX own exchange rate, not Maybank's.

Actually HSBC Classic VISA/Mastercard, Gold VISA/Mastercard, Gold Mastercard/VISA Platinum (HSBC doesn't offer Platinum Mastercard) will all have a combined credit limit. My case is just a bit different laugh.gif

applied for maybank amex gold card ~3 weeks ago & just got a call from them. is there 2 cards; credit card & charge card? whats the difference?
Credit card comes with a credit line and you cannot spend beyond the credit line given. Charge card on the other hand, doesn't come with a credit line. They will approve your purchase based on your past spending pattern. If you intend to make a huge purchase and the amount is very high, it is advisable that you call them first just to make sure the payment will go smoothly.

Citibank has both Plat MC and Plat VISA. If you hold both CCs, the CL si COMBINED.

The CL I mentioned (RM450k) is the CL given to a person based on his/her financial qualification and eligibility, NOT his/her pledged FD or whatever deposits in the respective bank.
Is the said person have both VISA and Mastercard from Citibank ? If he/she has both VISA and Mastercard from Citibank then i guess this is why his/her combined credit limit can be as high as RM450k. It is mentioned in certain banks websites that the credit line can be up to RM300k per Platinum card. If i'm not mistaken, i saw it in Hong Leong Bank and Standard Chartered Bank websites.

By pledging FD i guess we can find out just how far the credit line for each Platinum can go smile.gif

any idea on the differences between these 2 cards? do they get to enjoy the benefits of amex gold charge card?
The one on the left with Maybank logo on top will earn Treatpoints and for every RM1 charged you will be given 2TP.

The one of the right is a true American Express Gold credit card and you will earn Membership Rewards Points instead of Maybank Treatpoints. You can check out the Membership Rewards online catalogue in AMEX Malaysia official website. You will earn 5MR for every Ringgit charged when you spend at selected stores (**Certain supermarkets, Petrol and Bookstores) and 2MR for all other transactions.
