Anyway, the A350 is indeed better than the D40. But what about the future? Are you going to stick with Sony?

Well, even with the kit lens, the D80 will do better. More AF points, better built etc

And you can get a proper grip in the future, not some IR thingy.. My option to you is.. stick with Nikon, maybe by the time you save up enough, ada D90 and you can afford that.

D300 is around 5.5K now. Dropped a bit.
D200 ISO noise sucks compared to new generation CMOS DSLR la, but if compared to D40/D80 it's still better.
A350 is indeed entry level, priced the same as Canon 450D. About 3K right ? Biasa la more MP is better.

Since your budget is tight and you already have work to do, jumping ship is definitely not a good decision. For 2.5K you can get a new D80 body now (maybe you want to wait for D90 but that might cost 3K+) and continue to use your current gears.

speaking for future Nikon product, any news on replacing d80?
