do you use one settings to shoot all your pictures? I'm so lost

i js a new bird in this photography line....
i had bought a 2nd hand D40 SLR camera...yesterday....
may someone expert teach me the way to check the SHUTTER COUNT is how much?

Anyhow, u can check shutter count by using a software called Opanda IExif.

this guy was right,Opanda IExif was the program.
im using a Nikon D40 also.
cmon la,don't care la,just ignore it.concentrate on how to show a better photo better with your new DSLR.

55-200 VR is selling around 800-900 only.
owh btw, before this i've tried my friend's AF Nikkor 70-300mm lens.
since i've never tried any VR lens before, does it really really helps?
i've used 300mm zoom range most of my shots, its already came out very sharp.

hmm,should i take my camera+lenses for some maintenance or cleaning?how much they charge?how long will it takes?

why do you need maintanence? anything wrong with yr cam?

D40 is light and the colour balance is accurate.
i dont see why not.

as for me, if i am lazy to bring my heavy cameras out, i will opt for the smaller one too.
in this case, a nikon p5100 perhaps

hi jz wanna ask the D40 packs 7 different type of modes in white balance can any1 tell me wat it is?(eg : daylight,shade...etc)

i cant find this info anywhere...it's fer my report...thanks !

few month ago,my uncle gave me this lenses.
it was his old days with Film type SLR camera before it get stolen,he manage to find this when doing spring cleaning at his house.haha.



now,he really left me a thousand question,it fits in my D40,i didnt even know a thing bout this lense man.
forget bout autofocus,the aperture u have to set your own on the lense,range was set at a distance.
didnt even know how to use this lense,every single description fades already,go google it result was auction stuff.
any pro can tell me what is this lense?
please dont tell me this belongs to sigma's museum.

Added on March 28, 2008, 12:05 amfor the white balance,my advice is you try to use a D40 to shoot a target but with the different setting.
see the different yourself.
they all come with a same point,to make your pictures characteristic looks more natural.just like what a human eyes see.

can the d40 meter with the lens ?
just set the aperture on the lens, turn the zoom ring to zoom in zoom out, turn the focus ring to focus,
then click the shutter to shoot.

The white balance mode is there for compensating the color of the light to get the correct color shades. Why is it called white balance then? Coz they use white as a benchmark. Example - when you're in a room with fluorescent light, the light is actually 'cool' or slightly blue. If you choose the fluorescent light WB in your D40, it will automatically try to compensate by adjusting the image to be slightly yellow, so that it neutralizes the blueish light. End result is your white will be white instead of blue-ish white.

As for the angle thing - our sensors are cropped (smaller) than a full frame sensor. A full frame sensor simply means the sensor size is the same as a 35mm film. The effect of having a crop sensor is you have to take the crop factor into account when looking at lenses. D40 has a crop factor of 1.6 so if you have a 18-55mm lens, the effect is that you're actually getting the equivalent of a 18x1.6-55x1.6mm focal length on a full-frame or film camera.

I'm no sifu, just sharing what I know.
