the built of the camera and lenses are kinda cheapo.
thats why i dont really like this camera. but to be honest, it gives good quality though.

depends on u. for me, the feel i get when i am handling the camera is important too... if not i wont be able to take pics. hahaa

d40 is a slow camera. so it is not suitable for events or wedding photography or sports photography. apart from that, if you are doing some still life or landscapes, get the better lenses and have a good eye and good taste for it and chances are, you will get marvelous photographs with the d40

try taking off your filter and do a same shot again

D40 is light and the colour balance is accurate.
i dont see why not.

as for me, if i am lazy to bring my heavy cameras out, i will opt for the smaller one too.
in this case, a nikon p5100 perhaps

E series lenses are single coated. very nice if u are doing black and white.
