Hmm.. wish I own that RG550..sigh

p/s: that pic is the original RG550DY, not reissue/20th anniversary ed.

Rare stuff, but I've never liked maple fingerboards, even the 550DY (the 20th/reissue are seriously overpriced too). It's sad to think back that the 5xx series used to be quite affordable and was considered mid-range back in the 80s/90s. But now, they are marketed as the prestige model range which I think is kinda out of most of the hobbyist guitarist's budget. Good instrument, but just too expensive for most people.

As a result we have to compromise and make to with MIK, MIIndo and MIC stuff. smile.gif

A fuller bodied sound because the body will actually help to resonate the sound produced by the strings.

hmm...I get your point but then most acoustic guitars should be arched top right? But acoustics are predominantly flat tops
Anyone here care to shed some light?

Hmm.. good point. Let me try to find out smile.gif
With regards to the similarity between acoustic and archtops, bear in mind that archtops can be played acoustically also

pure human laziness.

archtops are big, especially since most are also arched at the back.
imagine carrying around an archtop to like a campfire? too troublesome right tongue.gif
regular flattops are much smaller and lighter.

there are still a few purely acoustic archtops around tho.
