I am very much looking forward with IP16 pro and AI. If I can tell it to do tasks it will be great. To me, AI photography is also important as there are just too much junk in my camera reel.

Besides, me and my wife (IP13 and IP13m) sure going to get at least 1 Iphone16. If they screw up it will be the 15 pro i guess.

Current phone Pixel 5. Any tips for new ios user? Ive been using Symbian - Android. Now 40+ years old. Hahahah
*
just use it, unless you are super power user with OCD die die need to change every single minute detail like font or sound or "transition" or must have certain widgets here or there, with customised launcher control, or jaga every 1% of battery drain per hour, a Max Iphone will last all day+next day, do everything. A non max iphone will last whole day.

Most importantly is backup your whatsapp and if necessary you may need to transfer the chats manually. By right nowadays whatsapp got feature to port over, but during my time in 2022 it was just released and didn't work well enough for my wife. I used a paid app to backup manually and transfer after setup in 2020 for my own Android to IOS.

Whatsapp can only be backed up by cloud on the IOS so I'd straight go for apple icloud RM5 per month for 50GB for whatsapp and other basic backups.

The rest you can figure it out as you get the phone.

so this phone is very laku is it?
I went to switch and no stock, I checking Apple.my and TRX also no stock?

I want to trade in my Iphone 13 128GB and seems very complicated if there is no ready stock to do an exchange.

Actually I live in Penang Island. I'm thinking of going to TRX for a quick visit next month.

Traded in an old iPhone 12 Pro Max. Went to POS Malaysia @ Pekan Sg Besi. They provided a box with instructions, bubble mailer, courier bag and box.  Once you hand it over they put one final small square security seal on the package. Next provide drop off code and receive confirmation/tracking page from them.

Phone was shipped to Apple within a day. Refund processed the day after and refund reflected by next business day.
*
Can I ask how much did you get for your iPhone 12 Pro Max, and whether it was close to the price quoted in the trade in website for your particular model (storage?)

can anyone recommend a case that has raised front glass lips and camera lips, which also have the full cut out for the camera button?

All cases should have lips for the front and camera and it's not possible to have partial cutouts for camera control so all should be full cutouts or fully covered camera control.
*
What I mean is raised enough to cover tempered glass front display and tempered glass for camera lens.

Not sure what you mean by "not possible to have partial cutouts for camera control".

Here is an example of what I mean by full cut out:

https://shopee.com.my/OtterBox-iPhone-16-Pr...bf-deec0611f545

What I'm hoping to see is more choices because my wife using it and she's kinda choosy.

Here is what I mean by partial cut out -

https://shopee.com.my/Luxury-Heat-Dissipati...18-f24f55739de9

Personally I feel this type really kind of impeding the full function of the camera button - even when fully exposed it is damn hard to use already. Any amount of casing material nearby will hinder the sliding here and there, the push sensitivity etc.

My take on this magical button is it is unnecessarily complicated and wasting time.

Anyone can suggest how do you backup kids photo n video
I shoot 4K and ton of photos
My wife 200gb iCloud+ used up in less than a year

Now thinking if we could sub & share 2TB with other family members
*
While as an Apple shareholder I;m happy for your business here, Office 365 Family with 5x1TB One drives should be enough for 2 person. Only RM1xx per year. Get the license key from Lazada or Shopee. Way less than Icloud. The only drawback might be you cannot backup you IOS data or your whatsapp etc. But reminder to spend your savings back in the next Iphone or Airpod or whatever ya!

QUOTE(fruitie @ Oct 16 2024, 08:29 PM)
Just upgrade to 2TB iCloud. I’m using that too. Photos and videos 400GB+, I wish it had 1TB plan but too bad. laugh.gif
*
Thanks, see my comment above wub.gif

QUOTE(chupapi_munyayo @ Oct 16 2024, 08:38 PM)
What happen when we stop sub for some reason
I know we can't upload n sync anymore
But existing photo n videos that on the cloud
Will Apple delete them?

Trying to see if the annual cost is it better to buy few TB HDD or not
*
HDD is not a robust back up. Fire, lightning, hacking, theft, HDD failure / wear and tear are all risk to your data.

If you hit the limit it will stay in the icloud but:
"If you run out of iCloud storage, your device won’t back up to iCloud, new photos and videos won't upload to iCloud Photos, and iCloud Drive and other iCloud apps won't stay up to date across your devices. And you won't be able to send or receive emails with your iCloud email address." - According to apple.
https://support.apple.com/en-us/108922#:~:t...0your%20devices.

Your data will stay there for a damn long time. but it does not make sense to keep an Apple ID alive but having a broken Icloud storage that will not even upload a single kb.

Im using google photo and its great 😃 , mean that once u subscript to Google One , u can have Google Drive / Google Photo / Google keep in A package , and with google photos , it wont remove ur photo information, u can view ur photo like the photo album , unlike the photo u save in drive which will remove ur information after u upload to drive and it take a little loading for each time u view ur photo

And with google photos , u can directly using the edit feature inside google photos such as AI Eraser , create the photo video

The best thing is ... U can share with android phone too ! Just need to login ur google account in any device and download the google photos app , u can also create a share Album to share with your fren by create a Link and send to them for download the album , if they have the Googles Photos app , u can just share the album , added their Google Account to access to the album , so whenever u upload to the shared Album , it directly appear on your friend phone in their google photos app

Besides that , I can directly choose Google Photos album in whatsapp chat to share the photo on my android phone that i snap on iphone , as long as u done the backup to Google Photos 😃

U might try to download the google photos apps , get 15gb free to try it out before u want to subscript futher

For me , its perfect if u have both iOS and android phone , and u wont be TIGHT with only Apple icloud.....super flexible 😁

These photo not even on my android phone album , i directly search thru Google Photos and can directly share to whatsapp chat✌️🥰
And if u would like to make a second backup to your pc , just simple login to https://photos.google.com/ , and download the whole album to your pc

Google drive for Document , Google Photos for video & photos , Google Keep for my Notes and it share between my iOS & android 😁 and Google Contact too 😂
*
Google photo is damn powerful and will be my first choice if priced similar to OneDrive. But 15gb is like 1 month of photos for me lol

Yeah I am aware, yet none of these come close to the price of OneDrive via Office 365 Family. Guys, I am just trying to save you all money here.

Some user do share their experience to save some money if u would like to , u can subscript for a month to back up ur photo/video , after this u can temporary unsubscript , u stil can use your google photo to download those last backup picture  , just u can't sync new photo to the google drive , then maybe when your phone memory is going to full soon after 3 month , then re-subscript again after 3 month and backup again to Google drive , after this unsubscript again.....google will only del your data if u unsubscript after 2 year if not mistake , so make sure u keep subscript within 2 year period to make sure ur data is safe  biggrin.gif So just pay them every 3-6 month to backup your photos then can save alot of money already

*
Bro, I salute you for this. But, RM42.99*2 for 2 months a year is essentially more expensive than Office 365 Family for the whole year RUNNING and you don't ever have to backup, upload, download freeze.
Imagine if you are outstation or on holiday and your phone drop into the sea, you are not subscribed at the time of drop. You lose the whole holiday worth of memories...or the worst the last 6 months.
One drive is LIVE all the time. I upload all my travel or holiday photos pretty much instantly. (Office 365 is RM200 per year divide by 5 persons guys). RM50 per year. not per month. Heck next year I might not even share it anymore and keep all 5x1tb in 5 of my own silos. I see no reason to actually not do this in parallel to whatever else you have be it icloud or google or AWS or NAS.

But I understand the motivation. Google photos is 3-4 years ahead of OneDrive - which is basically a competitor to Google drive, not google photos. Google photo's when integrate nicely with Gemini - you can see the pricing reflects its capability.

Onedrive on the other hand is just a live storage and backup. Very primitive just like a folder on the cloud.

For those who store in NAS like SYnology, I pray you are using 4 drives in raid. Which is basically RM2000, at your home consuming 10-40W/hr. In normal times, HDD failure is around 1 per 4 years. That is RM300 per years if you have 4 drives. If you have 2 drives the cost is RM150 per year, and you will have a headache every 2 years when either one of the drive fails and you have to do a restore from don't know where. So if you count that into the cost as well, haha. I do this too, but it is a price of redundancy that I pay. If you ONLY rely on this, once your HDD fails you will suffer.

Yeah, OneDrive Family can get very cheap from Lazada or Shopee. My last order from Laz was only RM83.87 so only RM9.32 per month. For 5 x 1TB, damn worth. Not to mention got license for Office 365.

Only prob with OneDrive is that the max seems to be 1TB. I looked casually but there doesn't seem to be a way to add more space to one particular user. Also you can sync only one personal and one business user to the device, Win/Mac/IOS. Android, I haven't checked but should be the same.
*
Personally I use 2 of the 1TB slots as individual silos. When first account filled up to 1TB i change account permanently on my phone to the 2nd Live account.

In practice that is also my wife's live account but she does not fill it up as fast as I do.

Ok, this is an important video and would've saved 2 hours of my life if I seen this before.

For the non-chinese speaking here is the proper summary.

user posted image

Restoring an Iphone 16 Pro from an Iphone 11 with 80gb used in the old phone as example.

1. Icloud restore with 500Mbps internet wifi. 15mins to be able to use the phone, 2hours for complete apps re-download. Total 2hours15mins
2. Iphone to Iphone via wireless connection - 30mins to be able to use, 40mins for apps re-download from wifi. Total 70mins
3. Itunes wired backup - 50mins + restore 34mins + 1 hour to redownload apps through wifi.

Video maker also say oldies like me assume itunes backups include full app backups - this is no longer the case. All apps will redownload and reinstall through app store like it or not.

Yeah, not all are having this issue. I don't have.
Option 1 for me... I always wanted to try option 2 but whenever option 1 pops up, I still select that. tongue.gif
*
remember option 1 will be bottlenecked by your internet speed....mine is only 200Mbps at home, and outside it could be 0 (since it won't do 5G restore no matter what) or if your workplace could be faster then great. my office firewall blocks Apple app store

Anyway they should publicise this damn thing, options 1 and 3 does NOT come with any time or status indication when you begin, and does not give you any option to "cancel"...

I semi bricked my own Iphone 15 pro on Monday because of cable restore. Boo.

can option 2 via TypeC-TypeC cable instead of connected thru the same WiFi
it would be shorter than 70mins
*
type c to type c cable means iphone 15 to iphone 16 pro....a weird and unlikely combo if you ask me honestly. Since you watched it you know it only saves a few minutes.

So far, 1 is not really an issue for me, though I'm using only 300Mbps. I've been using it a few times when I change to a new phone so far OK.
*
my friend just did this, and then only realised after trading in the phone to switch, and then proceeding to office happily, with dysfunctional wifi for one entire workday. 5G wouldn't restore, and office wifi wouldn't allow restore, and tada, one whole day cannot access work stuff too. Things like Okta, Google for work, Gmail for work etc etc.....Go home too early, stay office also just looking at the phone hehehe....
