Not really. iPhones should charge even with the most basic USB charge cables & dumbest chargers. I think his friend's charger is playing is safe and refusing to charge because it couldn't determine the cable type. It happens with my Baseus 100W PD when used with a dumb charge only cable.

I tested what I had on my table.

Remax USB-USBC Charge Cable is a dumb cable. Just GND & Voltage wires, no CC.
Jisulife Fan USBC2 Cable is USB2 cable. CC is wired. I couldn't find a more basic C-C charge cable.

Baseus 100W 4-port is 2 USB + 2 USBC (PD, QC, Samsung & Huawei.)
Apple 20W is Apple (PD 20W)
*in brackets is/are what the tester detected
*all chargers have BC1.2 (USB Basic Charging)

Finally Tineeowl case arrived. Texture almost the same like Caudabe sheath but not so rough.

Any recommendation for reliable cable brand? I'm looking to do fast transfer of photos during my trips to either external SDD or mini SSD.

So far I've used the ones that came with the enclosures. The thunderbolt 3 cables that came with Acasis tbt3 enclosures and the USB3 10G cable that came with an Orico 2230 USB3 enclosure.

The only hi-speed cable that I've ever bought was an Orico USB4 TBT3 240W 40Gbps C-C. It was cheap after discounts and seems to work OK. I've only ever tried it with mbam1 to mbam1 and the connection was Thunderbolt. The cable looks and feels well built.
