Let me tell you a cool story in a few words. My daughter dropped the air tag on a street outside of school. Overnight I tracked it everywhere near the school road. It ranged from 1km to a few hundred meters nearby.
I thought she dropped it in the bus. But turns out not in her school bus. I tracked it and the next day it was moving around nearby the school road also. When I finally reached there physically, there was nothing nearby except myself and some rubbish bags nearby.

Went out, walked a few rounds until I fenced it in with my phone. Eventually I realised it was in the big rubbish bag but one of 3. I used the sound beeping function and dig with hands until I found it in one of the rubbish bags. Yucks.

But it was there!

Anyway please be informed there is NO GPS in the Airtag. There is only UWB radio that pings your iphone and Ipad. If you throw it in an area with NO Iphone nearby it will not return the location accurately.

It will always only return the location of the last Iphone it was near to.

Any regular iPhone except if the owner purposefully disable the AirTag tracking deep in the settings.

I estimate out of thin air the proportion is 99.2% don’t do so.

The 13 was the last processor that really is battery saving.
I’ve seen a big leap for camera from 12, but not such a great leap from 13. I’m assuming you never had a big problem anyway for 13, else you’d have changed to 15 or even 14.
