You'll Never Walk Alone
(Liverpool FC Theme Song)
🎼When you walk through a storm
Hold your head up high
And don't be afraid of the dark

At the end of a storm
There's a golden sky
And the sweet silver song of a lark

Walk on through the wind
Walk on through the rain
Though your dreams be tossed and blown

Walk on, walk on
With hope in your heart
And you'll never walk alone

You'll never walk alone

Walk on, walk on
With hope in your heart
And you'll never walk alone

You'll never walk alone
🎶

Matip's contract is ending but not confirmed leaving unless the club doesn't want to renew him.
Kelleher is confirmed leaving unless Alisson leaves, & Adrian has said he's going back to Spain.

Yeah waiting for the leaning against the wall pic...

Btw taa confirm playing in midfield position for England... Good for him, less blaming for defensive duty....

Turkiye Vs Georgia indeed very entertaining, hopefully turkiye can go far... Georgia were wasteful in front of goal, else they could get more goals

I don't understand the criticism on taa playing midfield for England. I think the problem more with the manager insisting on 4-2-3-1 formation. If they want a deep midfield alongside rice, clearly not much option. Other than Trent, only options left are youngsters with not much experience playing in big games

Southgate don't really know what to do with him. Either ask players to pass to Foden and run like Forrest Gump or direct pass to Kane. TAA really underutilised and wasteful there.

But to be fair in last game, taa didn't play that well compared to the first game. He seems reluctant to make fwd run, maybe that was the instructions given to him, I don't know...I thought subbing him earlier was justified... But then you see his replacement, Gallagher didn't offer much either haha

I think now it is more what Arne prefer than what the management want. We have yet to see how Arne going to manage the team so for now I foresee less transfer deals, more evaluation of currents crops or players, including those from the academy as Arne as that type of person, giving academy players chances.

Newcastle's Anthony Gordon anyone?

Latest transfer news say LFC had rejected offer of Anthony Gordon from Newcastle as they need to balance the account before deadline to avoid point deduction due to EPL's Profit & Sustainability Rule. Newcastle initially propose Jarrell Quansah + Cash for Anthony Gordon.

It's good we didn't pursue the interest. Package including quansah moving to the other side is unacceptable.... And I couldn't remember an ex Everton player moved to Liverpool before .....

Yes, he's been quite sharp and looked dangerous. Think it helps that he plays from the left where he looks more comfortable. Pool played him at number 9 quite a lot which I feel doesn't suit him much.

Actually to me, we are overloaded on that flank as Nunez, Gakpo and Diaz all started from there. Uruguay now plays Nunez in the number 9 role though, so hopefully that provides an alternative when Jota is out. Especially since Jota also played more on the left previously.

Which would you prefer to start on the left FW position? It's difficult to say for me; Diaz presses more but he missed a lot of chances and I feel is less reliable to get goals. Feels like Gakpo can score more but he doesn't press as much.

Arne Slot's press conference: (with Richard Hughes)

Slot expects Liverpool to "improve" further
QUOTE
"It's important for us to improve. You can expect other teams to become better. That's the aim we have."

QUOTE
Hughes: "We need to improve, and we need to improve on the training pitch first and foremost. But with the window open we will always look to be opportunistic. "

Futures of Trent, Van Dijk and Salah are "private matters"
QUOTE
"It wouldn't be fair to talk about it, these are private matters. The only concern we have is total commitment to the cause and we're absolutely convinced that is the case."

Blooding youngsters remains a key point of focus, like Klopp
QUOTE
"I like to see good players and if they are all young, doesn't matter much. Nice to see younger players come through.

"It always gives energy to a club, players from academy but it is all about quality. If they continue doing well there is a fair chance."
No real difference between and head coach and a manager
QUOTE
"For me, it's not a change. I worked at Feyenoord like this. There are not many clubs in the world where there is only one person who makes decisions.

"I like to work like this, to be honest."
Replacing Klopp is "big shoes to fill but also a good team to inherit"
QUOTE
"You can see it two ways. They are big shoes to fill but also a good team to inherit.

"The past has shown there is a possibility for Liverpool to win some trophies. I look at it, in a way, that is ideal. I like to win and there is an opportunity to win at this club."

Pep Guardiola
QUOTE
"It's something to look forward to but there are many managers. If you work at such a league there are many I will face, Pep is one of them, for sure. I lived in an era I saw his Barcelona team and then this Liverpool vs. Man City rivalry."

Hiring of Arne Slot
QUOTE
Hughes:"His playing style attracted us, based on subjective opinion and data. In all metrics, Arne came out really well. Front-foot, attacking football, intelligence, passion - attributes we welcome. He works well with the squad, the supporters and the club."

Virgil Van Dijk
QUOTE
"Every top player wants to win, I hope Virgil wants the Euros first! After his holidays he will come back and wants to win, hunger to win. If you don't have that, you're not at LFC. Feel Virgil's hunger to stay? I did."

Transfer business
QUOTE
Huhges:“Naturally when there are major competitions during the summer, World Cup or a European Championship, in this case it’s a Copa America and the Olympics as well, there’s a lot of football being played.

“Naturally, the attention is going to be there. I think after the [transfer] flurry there was in June, it will calm down a little bit now for the month of July.

“And then like always, when August starts and coaches have had more time to work with players, I think then the opinions will be more set at football clubs.

“And you may see a situation in August, like in previous seasons, there’s a little bit of a hurry to get things done and make sure everyone’s squads are in order.

“I don’t think this [summer] will be any different. Who knows what will transpire economically, it’s hard to say and speak for other clubs.

“But I’d say a quiet July and crescendo in August would probably be the way to sum it up.”

His playing style advocates lots of "freedom" on the pitch
QUOTE
"Implementing a playing style which is similar (to Jurgen) but a bit different, hopefully will lead to special things.

"I'm a bit sad, maybe not the right word, but I hope the see my style is freedom for 4-2-3-1, 4-1-4-1, freedom when we have the ball. When we don't have it we want to be aggressive. I don't say I prefer [specific formations]."

Two more backroom addititions incoming
QUOTE
We're expecting two others to join. A couple more announcements in the near future.

Slot already knows how he will use Trent and Gakpo
QUOTE
"I do have my opinion about where they are going to play here. But if you don't mind I will speak to them and work with them first!"

Looks like Vitezslav Jaros wll get promoted to No. 3 GK. or even No. 2 in case Kelleher want to leave.

Jurgen Klopp has agreed to become an honorary ambassador for the LFC Foundation, with his commitment to the club’s official charity continuing following his departure as Reds boss.

Question for those who have bought ticket to watch Liverpool play at Anfield before for Premier League as an international fan (Non UK resident).

I will travel to UK this December until January 2025 and want to buy the ticket for Liverpool's home match.

I have read a lot and some say you need to pay for LFC membership first. Or maybe buy from third party sites.
Another one is "hospitality" pricing but it is around 600 pounds.

Any forumer here have advice on buying tickets?

Is it a surprise by now?

The stingy bastards are still in charge.

What’s the excuse this season? Have mr slot finish analyzing his players?

Next few weeks you will hear stupid braindead FSG mouthpieces hyping up academy lads like Ballon D Or candidate to gaslight the fans they don’t need signing. Contracts for Ali and Trent yet to be discussed, it’s gloomy indeed. Remember the times when FSG told fan suckers and Linda simps that they can’t sign players without CL? That they have no money to buy players but have money to buy bordeuax?

Now those clowns will be fully exposed without Klopp.
Hyping up Sepp Van der berg is the sign of what’s to come.

Wake up lads

Highlights from first friendly game for Arne Slot as Liverpool Coach against Preston North End. Lost 0 - 1.

Game play look nice. Fast pace with simple one touch passes a lot of time. A season of rebuilding I guess but I like what I see. Still too early tho.

I watched the game. Some interesting game play in first half where we tend to be more compact in the middle with short passes in the build up. Stand out players nyoni, Bradley, quansah. Harvey seems above the rest in terms of match fitness as always, but he made one or two unforced error at the back.... Which made me think he better stayed upfront most of the time rather then dropping deep to help defense...

Harvey has that shadow of KDB + david silva from both his assists, so underrated.

From highlights our plays were really well built up and smooth, slot ball haha

Imho Arne need to start making decision on focusing from 4231 formation into 433 dm wide. Eventhough he tried to use 433 when defending based on this vid. Maybe if trent, robo, vvd and konate back in the squad team would back to normal

Yes a press resistant DM who can implement slot ball is a must. To be honest, in MU game we get caught few times trying to play from the back, passing in the middle. Only their finishing and our goalie performance ensured we did not concede. In real EPL games, it will be a problem....

Or like what we always do, opt for somebody not under the radar of many top teams but will perform well under our system (Slot system).

Players liker Cardoso from Real Betis. He is among top rated player last season. It is a given why Liverpool opt to have pre-season against Real Betis.

maybe.
but its also we dont really sign anyone once preseason has started.
anyway... it's all Slot's headache...
if he does a dual pivot...then there's no space for Elliot...
but if he doesn't ...then there's likely no space for Macca...
or maybe he'll start rotating formations instead...

dunno..cos no manager has had any real say in transfers since kenny...
the infamous transfer committee is still around and Manager's role continues to lean more into concentrating solely on coaching...
then we also got that new sporting director taken from Bournemouth... who's likely going to be the new FSG puppet...sell high... buy low etc...

with this hype, a bit similar to last season Caicedo & the ex-Soto.
In the end we will get player no one knows coming from nowhere. CC Endo.

Totally different. There were no indication that caicedo and lavia is interested in coming here. Its just we splashing the cash their clubs request and pray to god they will choose us.

But this zubi case is the other way round. He rejected arsenal and barca, and say yes to us. Now the only thing left is the price of player, which we are negotiating now.

I think 60m for neto is quite cheap. This guy is really damn good, except for his injury record. Finally, after so long, chelsea able to make a fantastic buy sweat.gif

Why Zubimendi if we can spend 60m? He is not better than Merino at Real Sociedad, don't score Euro winning goal like Merino, yet Merino only cost Arsenal how much? Around 30m? I know their role are not quite the same but as comparison, Zubimendi is not really outstanding.

No any better candidate if we were to spend that 60m? Imo 60m for him is very risky and doubtful move.

buy to sell...
now got some incoming money from Solanke going to Spurs cos of 20% sell on fee...so Spurs paying 65m to Bournemouth...13m of that goes to FSG...
i expect typically FSG to plan to sell at least 1 more player to make up at least half the transfer fee of Zubimendi...then only will proceed...
that player likely looking to be Gomez...

Chelsea is impressive, signing players at a rate faster than I can remember all their signings.

I can name the starting 11 for us, ars, city and utd, but I can't name a single shit for Chelsea besides Enzo. Damn it, so many players I never heard of.

Its been years we have trying to get an elite no.6 after fabinho until today no replacement.....I mean Endo is a good player but he is not young while our youngsters are just potential....and i don't want to see Macca in no.6 position again after last year

Zubimendi rejecting us is ok but having no alternatives is just crazy, last season we falter at every competition due to no depth. Just to show that FSG has really no ambition to win cups

Agreed with all the above bro, I really duwan to see macca play as no 6, not that he was bad but i think his potential is on attacking side, he also often labeled as the scapegoat whenever we lost, which imo not fair to him.

We are also not yet extending the contract of the likes of TAA, Salah, VVD, etc.

Not sure what the transfer team is doing whole summer, i'm not buying the 'Slot is taking his time to analyze the team' BS, all supporters know LFC needs a proper 6 since long ago.

We are doing the business too late anyway. Too passive and naive in the market.

Yes bro, i don't get the criticism of Macca really, he was argueably signing of the season.

I think perhaps we will deploy the double pivot like you mentioned if we really don't make any alternatives signing for 6.

TAA, VVD & Mo could pre-sign contracts with other clubs in Jan and leave for free next summer...

Huge blow to FSG's pocket if that happen...

Where's the 100mil unused budget for Caicedo last summer?

Even worse, they try to loan out Stefan Bajčetić despite failure to sign Zubimendi... doh.gif

Klopp is the smart man. He left in good terms knwing disaster is just around the corner. I think if Klopp still the boss, everyone wants to join the club. Maybe after 1-2 seasons depend on Slot's performance then only we can think of getting good signing... this season, no chanve. How sad.

If I’m TAA, I might also want to leave this club. We went from title challenger to top4, and now I’m not even sure we can finish in top6. Not signing anyone just show we have zero ambition.

But not solving the immediate problem. I duno who is smarter, or who to blame.

I'm a very confuse fan now. laugh.gif

What is there to confuse lol

I have called out FSG since 2016

But no one believes in my crusade

Now “just enjoy the ride” with these tight fckers

Edwards is now CEO tho...no longer sporting director...
this now falls to the Bournemouth fella that joined...
then Ward also still around as technical director...

so we finally completed the 3 stooges lineup...
*
3 stooges are the fall guys

U can’t expect them to sign players if FSG only give them a limited budget and a bag of chips to operate with

Apa khabar LFC?

What is your expectation for new season?
- top4 minimum.

Last chance for Nunez, 20goals or out you go.

Fuhh... i would say if we finish top6 is already an achievement.
The squad is getting thinner by the day and we have 4 tournaments to compete. Not putting high hope this season.

UCL qualification will be the bare minimum for LFC.

Yea, Nunez last chance for me too. Not neccessary 20goals, not hoping him to be EPL best ST, just don't bottle easy tap in/1v1, especially in those crucial games.

Top 4 should be the expectation. Am i the only one here who is ok without a signing this summer?

I would rather this be a foundation year for slot to understand his players and implement his tactics. Then he will have a clearer idea on what players he need and we can get them in january or next summer. Remember, we are not a cash rich club like city, utd or chelsea where they can simply spend. Our funds are very limited. And the spending spree for vvd, allison and few more other is funded by the sales of coutinho.

Ideal case is this is the year where the players get used to slot and next season we can be serious title challenger.

Arne Slot pre-match press conference vs Ipswich Town:

Martin Zubimendi
QUOTE
“I said many times already, I think our squad is really strong and it’s not too easy to find players to help us or strengthen the squad,” the head coach insisted.

“Zubimendi was one of those, to be fair, but he decided not to come and we go forward with the ones we have – Endo is one who did really well in pre-season.

“We are in a good place. In the background, Richard is trying everything to strengthen the squad he can.

“Unfortunately, Zubimendi decided not to come. [Richard] tried everything, but if a player doesn’t want to come, it’s obvious that he’s not coming.”

“We’re always talking about transfers, but it’s a very positive thing we kept all our players.”

“We are trying to strengthen the squad,” he continued. “In the background Richard is trying to improve the team.”

Pre-season
QUOTE
"For me the pre-season games meant something as it was important to prepare the team for the Premier League. Now we start against a promoted team who have done so well under their manager so now we get ready. It's not harder than preparing for a team who were in the Premier League for 22 years, we have seen their games from last season and pre-season. It is true a newly-promoted club has a lot of positivity but everyone has told every game in PL is intense and that is what we expect tomorrow as well. A promoted team who only has had positives, they are looking forward to it, but so are we."

TAA
QUOTE
“I think a position for players is always related to the team,” he said.

“It’s also my aim to bring the best out of the player, but the first aim is to bring the best out of the team. It helps if you also bring the best out of a player then.

“Trent is known for playing as a right full-back, for all his life I think, and when he was a youngster he played in midfield.

“In the modern game, you see a lot of full-backs going into the midfield, that is what he did last season once in a while, and I saw him playing at the Euros in midfield.

“So I think he’s capable of playing both positions really good, and then it’s up to me where I think he could help the team the most.”

Lack of Transfers
QUOTE
“That argument I don’t understand: ‘if you don’t strengthen the team, you become weaker’?” he told reporters.

“That’s a bit weird, because normally you would either stay the same or – and I truly believe – [at] the training ground, you can help players and teams to improve.

“That is also what happened here in recent years, that the training ground really helped the team to improve.

“Maybe what you mean is if the clubs around you do strengthen the team, then maybe they become better, but it’s not always true that if you bring in new players the team becomes stronger.

“I also believe in general that every player in the team needs to have perspective on playing time, and if you keep bringing players in sometimes the energy in the group goes down as well.

“But like I said many times, we – and with we, I mean Richard and me – are trying to strengthen the squad, and if we think we’ve found someone, we try to bring him in.

“Then, unfortunately, the one we thought could help us said no, but in the background, Richard is still trying to improve the team.

“But my main focus at the moment is fully on Ipswich.”

Luis Diaz
QUOTE
“There is a lot of speculation constantly in this country, that is clear for me. So it’s not a surprise for me if I hear you saying that it is also for Luis Diaz.

“Is there any player they don’t talk about?

“His future is with us because I like a lot what I’ve seen in the last 10 days that he’s been in.

“I saw the same last season. He’s had a big impact on Liverpool’s seasons and I’m hoping that he has a big impact in the upcoming season as well.”

Darwin Nunez
QUOTE
“Bring him as much as we can into scoring positions.”

“But again, I think every individual benefits from team performance,” the head coach continued.

“If we, as a team, can bring our attackers – not only him, but also the other ones – as much as we can into dangerous positions, these players will score goals.

“That’s also what we’ve seen in pre-season, where we even scored goals out of smaller chances.

“So it’s up to us to bring him, or Diogo or other attackers, as much as we can into promising positions for them.

“And then he, like all the others, will score the goals.”

Just keep Diogo fit and he should start ahead of Nunez. Agree with Arne that if a player doesn't want to come then it is out of our control. Throwing huge sums of wages to convince them to come, like the cases in Manchester Red, we all saw where that would lead to.
Still would like to see a couple of signings, I think at LB and DM.
Bring on Ipswich!

Agree. No point bringing players on high wages. It gonna kill our financial and other clubs will not want to sign them. Best example is sancho and rashford.

Lets see if there are any fire sales from chelsea. Currently they are like a factory specialized to bring players value down. Buy player -> loan them out/put on bench -> dispose after 1 year. If have suitable players, why not.

I've no problem in selling him, the question is will we buy anyone to replace him? We already lack of senior CB, plus Gomez was versatile to cover fullbacks sometimes.

Btw, Gravy playing as CDM, not a bad idea. But i worried about his workrate.

so dual pivot it is with ryan as the anchor and macca beside while having some freedom to move up.
and szobo making up the midfield with even more freedom to roam as a no10...
basically similar to how Arne played during preseason...
on paper it all sounds ok... but the way they're playing is almost woy like...come on it's only Ipswich 🙈

same old same old.. 80% of our possession is still just the interchanges between CBs and GK. then occasionally hit a long ball when under pressure.

Is it just me or is Salah happier after Klopp left?
Based on today's performance, scoring in 9 season opening games in a row (crazy) and his selfless assist and overall gameplay, I'd say we better offer him an extension ASAP.
Once the Saudi's offer him a bumper deal in Jan he's gonna be off

Good to see he is a no nonsense type of coach, look at 0:33 on why he took quansah out. This is really refreshing to see, as i dont remember klopp taking out any of our CB at half time before due to underperforming (i might be wrong).

Honestly, loving his post match interview.

Yes, Klopp was too loyal to his players, sometimes don't even want to make early changes or he would made some weird subs imo, but today Slot was decisive and on point (it could back fired too, just look at MU how their players were unhappy with manager for making such tactical sub). I see the way he analyzes the game and talk about the players performance, it just makes alot of sense to me.

Although it's just 1st game vs Ipswich, but I'm feeling more relief as i was always doubting him. The next 10 games will probably determine how far he could lead this team.

He really wants to emphasize on team and not interested to highlight Individual, does he.
I saw a bit awkward moments when taa was subbed, he wanted to hug Slot, but quickly realised it wasn't klopp. I think Slot has a bit of Rafa attributes.

don't trust any media...cos we're still signing fuck-all.
makes no sense to sign a keeper that'll only come in next season... especially for 30m and just become 2nd choice as Kelleher wants to leave.
plus we got a capable reserve keeper now in Jaros.

You have forgotten about the game against Tottenham in 2017 where Klopp sub off Louven before half time, at 30th minute of the 1st half.
We lost 4-1 that day
Louven had a horrid time then, was responsible for the Tottenham first and second goals.

I still dun understand why we need to spend so much on another GK....We have 2 very good GK in Alisson & Kelleher....If what we did is to sign another backup to those 2, really need to spend so much money?

Strengthen others place lar pls.....

So satisfying to see sterling get treated like rubbish and get stripped off his number 7. What goes around comes around, he deserved all of this.

I don't like the move of Bobby Clark leaving. Clearly it is because of Pep. He knows the talent in him. How much are we getting for him?
With all outgoings, wonder what is in store with incoming(s). At least renew la Trent, Virj and Mo contract

Rumour is 10mil + 17.5% sell on fees.

Looks like the board do not have much choice, as our transfer budget is limited, so need to sell many players to balance the book. Wont be surprised if the sales this season is to cover back our splurge last year where we spend >100mil to refresh our midfields.

We are not utd, chelsea and city which are bankrolled by billionaires. And take note our net spend is MUCH HIGHER than city for the past 5 years. What does this tell us? It means we are overspending compared to city, and we all know how rich city are. laugh.gif

Thats why at the start of last season, i really hope we can get rid of salah for 200m to rebuild our aging squad. Too bad it didnt happen and we are feeling the pain now. I really believe edward is not a stupid transfer guy and keep on selling players. Its just that we need cash to invest in new players.

Just my 2 cents

QUOTE(ry8128 @ Sep 2 2023, 10:34 PM)
Same thinking here. If the rumour is true that they will offer 200m for him, by all mean pls sell him.

This 200m will helps us a long way to find a replacement and strengthen our team.

Many ppl says we will be a mid table team after selling coutinho, but end up we reinvest the money in alisson and vvd. What happens next is history. 200m is a damn bloody good deal.
*
QUOTE(ry8128 @ Sep 5 2023, 09:48 PM)
Really dun mind selling him to be honest.

I dun see our team is capable of challenging for the title, even with salah. We need injection of world class players to rejuvenate the team and this requires cash. And you will see pigs flying if FSG is giving out big cash to buy players.

This is where salah's sale will come into play. We need the cash!  sweat.gif

just so happens no4 is available, but i don't think he's gonna be starter.
Brentford got many CB...first team pairing also still fit.
Brentford fans also wondering why they signed Sepp.

For 25mil I would drive Sepp to Brentford. So we have 35mil more from Bobby Clark and Sepp, who are we buying?
About selling Salah, unless an offer in excess of 100mil comes, I say we keep him. He is one of the most senior players, and his professionalism is second to none. Selling him would not only weaken the team, but also lessen the pull factor of players joining us.

He doesn’t want to renew his contract. And I fully support his decision, he still has a few good years in him and I don’t want to see him wasting it in an ambitionless club

Same goes to VVD and Alison. They will all quit in droves, including Trent. To hell with FSG

Lucky that Klopp left us with an already great team for Arne to begin with. Game is a bit dull but you can see sometime the way Arne want us to play. Players have more overall freedom on the field.

Lets hope that Arne style will catch on fast with players. Good win nonetheless.

I call that pragmatic rather than dull. Last week against Ipswich was the first time in years our team practise time wasting around the 80 mins mark. Over the years we conceded too many chances late game on counter attack.

watching Slot set up the team brings back memories of BR tiki taka from the back, then losing the ball...and goal...
then the dual pivot but 4213 instead of BR's later era 4231...

only a matter of time before this teka teki from the back gets punished again...

🚨 𝐇𝐄𝐑𝐄 𝐖𝐄 𝐆𝐎! Liverpool agree deal to sign Giorgi Mamardashvili from Valencia in 2025 🔴🇬🇪

Medical today for Georgian goalkeeper as he’s joining Liverpool from Valencia but from season 2025/2026.

The agreement will be sealed for €35m package plus sell-on clause, set to be completed in the next 24h…

…Alisson will be Liverpool goalkeeper at least for one more season so then Mamardashvili will join the club.

This season, Georgian goalkeeper stays at Valencia 🦇

Dont mind having chiesa in the team and 15mil is dirt cheap for a player of his quality. He wouldnt be this price if his contract is not expiring. This guy is real class and very hardworking, typical klopp type of players who works the socks off, albeit now is slot ball. Very impressed with him during Euro 2020. Injury kills his career in juve.

The only issue is his injury record. But he was not injury prone before joining juve. So he could be a gem signing or a thiago-like signing. Lets see how.

Its 36, not 32. The only thing I am not clear is how the AI draw works? I read from few sources yet cant figure out what the below mean. Any idea?

The computer has been programmed to factor in country protection which will prevent teams from drawing opponent from their same league. One club will face a maximum of two opponents from their own country.

uefa site said this...so seeding first...then only some randomizer comes in.

QUOTE
To determine the eight different opponents, the teams will initially be ranked in four seeding pots. Each team will then be drawn to play two opponents from each of these pots, playing one match against a team from each pot at home, and one away.

so now instead of playing 3 teams home and away...
gotta play 8 teams...the 4 away at likely shit holes.

Yup, but how the randomizer works? First sentence say it will prevent team from same country playing each other. Then 2nd sentence say each team can play max twice against team from same country. I very confused rclxub.gif

The computer has been programmed to factor in country protection which will prevent teams from drawing opponent from their same league. One club will face a maximum of two opponents from their own country.

is this from reddit or something? cos uefa site has no mention of this.

anyway, I'm guessing that's completely lost in translation maybe by some chigga...
this one seems clearer...
so my understanding is from the 4 pots... the computer will arrange in a way that max 2 of other 3 pots will have same cuntry.
then if drawn, they'll be manually removed and re-draw.

QUOTE
Each team will be manually drawn, but their opponents will be generated via AI software that will also decide which games are played at home and away. Every team plays four games at home and four away.

Teams can be drawn against a maximum of two teams from the same country and cannot face sides from the same UEFA member association in the league phase.

Got it from goal: https://www.goal.com/en-my/lists/ai-champio...f086e85ebaaf0d7

You gave me an idea on going to uefa, and yea, u are right, the translation in goal is wrong. Uefa actual explanation is here: https://www.uefa.com/uefachampionsleague/vi...ures-explained/

It says no team can play against own country's team and the team can only play against the opponent from the same country (but diff country with the team) max twice.

Think Kelleher will be leaving next season then... what's the point of him staying if Giorgi is fighting the #1 spot with Alisson

I am suspecting ali will leave next season and Giorgi will compete with kelleher as no 1 sweat.gif

Hopefully I am wrong as I don't wan ali to leave. He can easily play at this level for another 5 years

but kelleher wanted to leave earlier since he wants guarantee first team football...
and allison still has contract ongoing also...so i doubt he's leaving unless someone can pay stupid money...and guarantee top football...
so i think more likely kelleher gonna leave and giorgi gonna be no2 next season...

*
I tot we are after barella, but this also not bad. I'm prepared though for it to turn out like thiago...
But Slot seems want to carefully manage players playing time. Let's hope he has idea how to manage injury prone player.

If I not mistaken, barella is a CM and not winger/forward like chiesa. And we link to him before we bought mac and szo.

meanwhile our no8 jersey is playing as a no10 and our no10 jersey is playing as a no6...

I saw his name in the U23 lineup the other day. Think he is still fit!

Technically, mac can play as No.6 too like he did last season. We are covered but it would be better to get a specialist No. 6 than a makeshift one.

I don't understand the gk transfer. Is he better than Kelleher? At least Kelleher is proven in PL and has stayed loyal to the club for so long. Why pay 40mil now and let him stay in Spain for another year? If he play shit this season it's gonna be pie in the face for us for paying so much in advance.
If we gonna pay 40m and Kelleher wants to move, then do it this summer. Really brainfucked with this transfer move.

If we look at Chiesa (10.9m) as replacement for squad players we sold like carvalho (25m) or Clark (10m), then it is a good business.

His stat on last season +performance at Euros in helping Georgia qualify to last 16, prove he has potential become elite level gk.

If we don't get him now, we might need to fork out even higher money in the future for Alisson replacement.

Good news i guess. A bargain fees for me, 12.5mil for a world class player (and maybe injury prone) in last year of his contract.

To put this fees into perspective, utd pay mount 55mil and de ligt 38mil (both have reputation of being injury prone). And both are in their last year of contract too. Even merino cost arsenal 32 mil, last year contract too. So i believe 12.5 is a calculated risk for chiesa.

This gk transfer makes a lot of sense to me. In fact, i am very happy with it. Reason is because, first, giorgi is a very good keeper based on what i see him in euro. But euro is only a few matches. 2nd is, next year, for sure, either ali or kelleher will leave, without a doubt, so we well prepared already.

3rd, the fact we lock a talented player shows that the board and transfer team are looking into the future, which makes me feel relieved (for now).

Ali said he is happy and family is settled in Liverpool and he will stay at least for the length of his contract which I think runs until end of 2026 season. To me Kelleher staying or leaving doesn't make a difference. If Ali stays I will want Ali to start. So what that leaves us is a 40mil talented gk getting minutes in League Cup matches.

And if he starts sulking after 2 seasons playing second fiddle, good luck finding someone who will pay more than the 40mil + wages we spent on him.

I'm not against signing talented players. It's just mind-blowing to me that...
- Ali and Kelleher is still here
- We paid and let them have him another season
- What if he suffers an injury or drop in form
- We don't have bottomless pit and desperately need a DM or LB and yet we spend 40mil on a gk for next season

Just know he speaks English well, should be able to integrate easily.

And he will wear no 14, a legendary shirt worn by Alonso and to a certain extend, Hendo.

Last minute hijack failed by Barca, due to their financial woes, as La Liga got salary cap, so Bajcetic may not be able to register into the squad.

Only Chiesa can be considered bolstering the squad. Giorgi is on loan elsewhere. Jaros is replacing Adrian.

Pretty flat window so far. Should sign at least 1 CB to replace Matip and a natural No. 6.

Not easy. Was happy to see our away pot 1 is RB, but then end up home is Madrid. Toughest pot 2 opponents we get, and pot 3 and 4 are strong teams too.

Bad thing is it's hard to qualify.
Good thing is all matches gonna be very interesting and worth to watch.

Again, not against the Chiesa signing but is the attack where we need strengthening?
We've won 2 games with Grav as our 6 with Macca and Szobo but I feel against better teams (no disrespect to Ipswich and Brentford) we will need Endo or a specialist DM playing. That has not been addressed and Endo hasn't made it off the bench either.
And at 10mil let's not kid ourselves, this is a calculated risk that we can afford to take. We wouldn't have signed him if he was above 15mil I'm sure. So was it a tactical or business decision? Is he better than Salah Jota Gakpo Diaz or even Darwin?
Anyway I wish him well, from his unveiling he seems genuinely happy to be here. Hope all works out well.

*
Assuming he is fit, he is much better than all of our attackers except salah.

But agree with your statement that attack is not where we need reinforcement now. Maybe the board see this as a superb bargain buy and so get him in first and gamble since it's a very low risk gamble with potential of a very big win.

Who knows, if salah is leaving next year, we might need to spend at least 5x the cost of chiesa to get a replacement. And if chiesa can indeed stay fit, then the money can go to other area.

Looks more like a continuity plan by the management. You can see reason why they buy new goalkeeper and now this.

*
Actually with the new CL system, it's much easier to qualify. Only 12 of the 36 teams gets knocked out directly. Meaning only....bottom 3 of each league? Top 2 goes directly into Round of 16, others into a playoff, which means another chance.

Personally, I prefer the old system, sometimes you see a big team get the 4th spot and kicked out straight, which was funny when it happened to others though not when it happened to Pool tongue.gif There's much less jeopardy now.

ya its easier to qualify...if u finish 1st to 8th...
but also means playing more matches...and more money for uefa.
cos 1st to 8th still ok...even tho need play 2 extra games instead of 6 total in previous format...
but 9th to 24th especially gonna sux cos need to play total of 10 matches to reach rnd of 16.

Not necessary easier to qualify, if bad luck like PSG, potential facing all tops teams from pot 1-4...

Under old format, we could 100% avoid top teams from pot 1, but now we gonna face RMadrid in early stage...

But now much entertaining from us fans' perspective as we get to watch matches against 8 different opponents, instead of previous only 3 (home & away)...

Only Chiesa can be considered bolstering the squad. Giorgi is on loan elsewhere.  Jaros is replacing Adrian.

Pretty flat window so far. Should sign at least 1 CB to replace Matip and a natural No. 6.

Arne Slot's pre-match press conference vs Manchester United:

New signings
QUOTE
Of course we are happy with the ones we signed because I said many times that it's difficult for us to make the team even stronger because we already have a very strong team. And if we then find them, of course we are very happy with that. Chiesa is someone who can help us for the short term and Mamardashvili is, I think, one of the examples where this club did in the past very good that they look also at the future, long-term future of the club – and that's why we signed him.

Further signings before deadline
QUOTE
“I’m not expecting anything, but again, it’s no different to all the other days before,” the Dutchman explained.

“If we see an opportunity, we could act. But I’m not expecting anything.”

Caoimhin Kelleher
QUOTE
“Maybe, but we have to make decisions as well. It’s not only the player,” he told reporters in his pre-Man United press conference.

“If you work at a club like Liverpool you need competition and we need a lot of good players.

“Mamardashvili is someone for the long future of the club, and I’m really, really happy with the goalkeepers we have at the moment.

“Caoimh is one of them, like Vit [Jaros] and Ali. We’re in a good place when it comes to goalkeepers for now and for the long term.”

Manchester United
QUOTE
Some of them tried to tell me a few things about it, but I don't think that's really necessary. If you're starting to work at Liverpool, everybody knows, every player that comes in knows and every manager that comes in knows how important the game against United is. It's similar to when you work at Feyenoord, how big the game against Ajax is. People tell you, of course, but it's not really necessary because if you follow the game of football, which I do for a long time, you know the importance of Liverpool against United or United against Liverpool.

Federico Chiesa
QUOTE
“Excited [to have signed him], if we sign someone who can help us achieve our goals and improve the squad, of course we are really excited that we brought him in.

“One of the best things about working here, what I’ve noticed so far, is the culture of this team, they work really hard to achieve their goals.

“It is then really important the first player you bring in has that same attitude and brings the same culture.

“He works really hard on and off the pitch to try to get the best of himself, and he combines this with scoring goals and really aggressive without the ball.

“He can play in so many positions, on the right, left and maybe even in the middle. It makes him an interesting signing for us.

“We should take care of him in the beginning because he didn’t train with the team (Juventus) in the last two weeks, but before he did.

“He hasn’t played many game minutes yet, but we have very good performance staff, and we will build him up in the right way and, hopefully, can see his quality in the near future.”

QUOTE
It wouldn't be the first time the English media overexaggerate! I think it is true he had a long-term injury with his ACL, but for the rest I don't think he had big injuries. Minor injuries like every other player maybe. We have a lot of trust in our performance staff and the good thing is he is not the only winger we have: he is one out of four, where some others can play in that position as well. If he is not available at certain moments – not only with him, also the others – then there is still enough players for me to choose.

So the window has close. Gotta give this window a B+ rating. Overall quite a good window, as we get both signings at bargain price. Giorgi is a fantastic buy with only 25mil, a real gem and setting up the future nicely with either ali or kellerher will be leaving.

It's gonna be an A if we can get zubi, too bad it didn't happen.

The madrid one is a tough one, as 3 days later we will be facing city. Not easy to rotate the squad and most of them i think wont be 100% fit vs city after playing madrid.

Too many seasons we lost finals of major competitions, no.2 in a league, just because refusing to spend few millions to address critical positions and leaving the squad thin. Just being happy for a 'good enough' squad won't cut it. No wonder Juergen is tired.

I second this.

At this stage, we are not even asking for marquee, just hoping to address critical positions like you said. But obviously we had the best players in the world and very difficult to improve anymore.

Overall very good first half, the passing is accurate and able to control possession. Seems like our midfielders always have space and time to pick up the pass.

Besides the assist, did anyone notice salah is very quiet tonight?

Based on previous 2 games he has been quite. I think it might be due to tactical and you can see he quite calm actually this season which instead of dribbling through like previously, he more towards passing thus the assist.
It would be different play of Salah that we will see this season.

Please let Salah to retire as a Red. He really deserve it and end his career as one of the greatest Red and lagend. A least this is what Liverpool can do to recognise his loyalty.

New manager impact usually happens to team with their manager sacked and on a poor run of form. Ours abit different though

Erik ten Hag 𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐬 𝐛𝐚𝐜𝐤 after 0-3! 🔴🤫
“Coaching is the problem? Are you sure? I don’t think so… or you would not win trophies like we did twice”.
“I’m sorry for you. After Manchester City, 𝐰𝐞 𝐰𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐦𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐡𝐢𝐞𝐬… against big teams. I’m sorry for you”.
“Ugarte out? 𝐈’𝐦 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐇𝐚𝐫𝐫𝐲 𝐏𝐨𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫! He hasn’t played, needs to build his fitness, can take weeks… months”.
“Casemiro has shown often that he’s great character. He will show that again, so for sure will bounce back”.
“I don’t think it’s right to say it feels same as last year”.
“You can see the xG we didn’t concede as many goals… it’s not same as last year. But well done to Liverpool”.
“In the two years we took two trophies. At the end of the season you’ll see, for sure 𝐰𝐞’𝐥𝐥 𝐠𝐨 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐡𝐢𝐞𝐬”.

Ten Hag is delusional... Big talk after winning carabao and FA cup, can't even qualify for Champions league...

It's taken out of context. He also said it's not entirely up to him, a subtle hint that if the club offers him, he may consider.

Actually for me, i would prefer a Left footed RW, Chiesa is a Right footer and imo he is more of a LW, but well let's see how we are gona use him.

Chiesa is one of those center forward guys who became a winger...kinda like his father...or Jota...
can play across all front 3 positions...able to cross and somewhat shoot with both feet also...
i think he's one of the few rare italians who can perform in PL... just need to toughen him up abit... maybe a sparring session with vvd or something...

But is he really glassman? Or everyone hype him to be?

Before he switch to juve, there are no injuries. First season with juve, he did ok, play over 40 matches.

2nd season is where he get injured, season ending injury where he missed almost 1 year. Then last season he played in quite a lot of matches.

Of cos he is not injure free like salah, but I feel he is not that injury prone like thiago too

Arne Slot's pre-match press conference vs Nottingham Forest:

Harvey Elliot
QUOTE
“Harvey it’s, of course, a big disappointment for him, but also for us.

“Ok, he didn’t play that much in the first three games, but he played a lot in pre-season and showed himself really well.

“Of course, if he stayed fit, he would have had a lot of playing time in the upcoming fixtures. Now he isn’t and that now gives a chance to someone else.

“First and foremost, it is a blow to himself and, in the end, also for us because availability is important in a phase of the season where we play seven games in 22 days.

“It is a blow for the both of us, but he will work as hard as always to come back in the best possible way.”

Federico Chiesa
QUOTE
"Federico has trained with the team now 3 or 4 times, so lets see how he does today and what decision I make."

Caoimhin Kelleher
QUOTE
"I would be really be worried if a player comes out saying 'I don't care about playing first team football'.

"It's normal that they want to play, but it's also normal that a club like this has more than 11 players that can play.

"As long as they accept their situation by helping the team when the have to, then it's a good place to be in. Caoimhin has shown every time that he's ready."

Ryan Gravenberch
QUOTE
"He's been a midfielder all his life, but maybe he's playing a bit deeper. It's not that much of a difference.

"Ryan came back strong, played some good games and took his chance. If trust means that you play him, then I trust him, but I also trust the others."

Salah, VVD, TAA contract
QUOTE
"It's again the boring answer from me which you're going to get from me as long as there's no news about this, but we don't talk about contract situations over here.

"Is it a distraction? No it isn't, because I'm fully focused on the individuals and the team, and they are part of the team, and trying to work with them in the best possible way to get the best out of them, so it's not a distraction for me at all."

Alexis Mac Allister
QUOTE
“He was out in the last game but he trained with us yesterday,” Slot told reporters on Friday. “I’m expecting Macca to be with us tomorrow.”

Players get no rest in international break
QUOTE
"In some situations I was happy that they played 90.

"For now, it was a present that I got from most national team coaches. Maybe in the future I would sometimes love for it to be a bit different, but it's a positive thing that we're in such a good place that we have 10 players that can play every minute for their national team, it says a lot about the quality we have."
