Newcastle's Anthony Gordon anyone?

Latest transfer news say LFC had rejected offer of Anthony Gordon from Newcastle as they need to balance the account before deadline to avoid point deduction due to EPL's Profit & Sustainability Rule. Newcastle initially propose Jarrell Quansah + Cash for Anthony Gordon.

Arne Slot's press conference: (with Richard Hughes)

Slot expects Liverpool to "improve" further
QUOTE
"It's important for us to improve. You can expect other teams to become better. That's the aim we have."

QUOTE
Hughes: "We need to improve, and we need to improve on the training pitch first and foremost. But with the window open we will always look to be opportunistic. "

Futures of Trent, Van Dijk and Salah are "private matters"
QUOTE
"It wouldn't be fair to talk about it, these are private matters. The only concern we have is total commitment to the cause and we're absolutely convinced that is the case."

Blooding youngsters remains a key point of focus, like Klopp
QUOTE
"I like to see good players and if they are all young, doesn't matter much. Nice to see younger players come through.

"It always gives energy to a club, players from academy but it is all about quality. If they continue doing well there is a fair chance."
No real difference between and head coach and a manager
QUOTE
"For me, it's not a change. I worked at Feyenoord like this. There are not many clubs in the world where there is only one person who makes decisions.

"I like to work like this, to be honest."
Replacing Klopp is "big shoes to fill but also a good team to inherit"
QUOTE
"You can see it two ways. They are big shoes to fill but also a good team to inherit.

"The past has shown there is a possibility for Liverpool to win some trophies. I look at it, in a way, that is ideal. I like to win and there is an opportunity to win at this club."

Pep Guardiola
QUOTE
"It's something to look forward to but there are many managers. If you work at such a league there are many I will face, Pep is one of them, for sure. I lived in an era I saw his Barcelona team and then this Liverpool vs. Man City rivalry."

Hiring of Arne Slot
QUOTE
Hughes:"His playing style attracted us, based on subjective opinion and data. In all metrics, Arne came out really well. Front-foot, attacking football, intelligence, passion - attributes we welcome. He works well with the squad, the supporters and the club."

Virgil Van Dijk
QUOTE
"Every top player wants to win, I hope Virgil wants the Euros first! After his holidays he will come back and wants to win, hunger to win. If you don't have that, you're not at LFC. Feel Virgil's hunger to stay? I did."

Transfer business
QUOTE
Huhges:“Naturally when there are major competitions during the summer, World Cup or a European Championship, in this case it’s a Copa America and the Olympics as well, there’s a lot of football being played.

“Naturally, the attention is going to be there. I think after the [transfer] flurry there was in June, it will calm down a little bit now for the month of July.

“And then like always, when August starts and coaches have had more time to work with players, I think then the opinions will be more set at football clubs.

“And you may see a situation in August, like in previous seasons, there’s a little bit of a hurry to get things done and make sure everyone’s squads are in order.

“I don’t think this [summer] will be any different. Who knows what will transpire economically, it’s hard to say and speak for other clubs.

“But I’d say a quiet July and crescendo in August would probably be the way to sum it up.”

His playing style advocates lots of "freedom" on the pitch
QUOTE
"Implementing a playing style which is similar (to Jurgen) but a bit different, hopefully will lead to special things.

"I'm a bit sad, maybe not the right word, but I hope the see my style is freedom for 4-2-3-1, 4-1-4-1, freedom when we have the ball. When we don't have it we want to be aggressive. I don't say I prefer [specific formations]."

Two more backroom addititions incoming
QUOTE
We're expecting two others to join. A couple more announcements in the near future.

Slot already knows how he will use Trent and Gakpo
QUOTE
"I do have my opinion about where they are going to play here. But if you don't mind I will speak to them and work with them first!"

Looks like Vitezslav Jaros wll get promoted to No. 3 GK. or even No. 2 in case Kelleher want to leave.

Arne Slot pre-match press conference vs Ipswich Town:

Martin Zubimendi
QUOTE
“I said many times already, I think our squad is really strong and it’s not too easy to find players to help us or strengthen the squad,” the head coach insisted.

“Zubimendi was one of those, to be fair, but he decided not to come and we go forward with the ones we have – Endo is one who did really well in pre-season.

“We are in a good place. In the background, Richard is trying everything to strengthen the squad he can.

“Unfortunately, Zubimendi decided not to come. [Richard] tried everything, but if a player doesn’t want to come, it’s obvious that he’s not coming.”

“We’re always talking about transfers, but it’s a very positive thing we kept all our players.”

“We are trying to strengthen the squad,” he continued. “In the background Richard is trying to improve the team.”

Pre-season
QUOTE
"For me the pre-season games meant something as it was important to prepare the team for the Premier League. Now we start against a promoted team who have done so well under their manager so now we get ready. It's not harder than preparing for a team who were in the Premier League for 22 years, we have seen their games from last season and pre-season. It is true a newly-promoted club has a lot of positivity but everyone has told every game in PL is intense and that is what we expect tomorrow as well. A promoted team who only has had positives, they are looking forward to it, but so are we."

TAA
QUOTE
“I think a position for players is always related to the team,” he said.

“It’s also my aim to bring the best out of the player, but the first aim is to bring the best out of the team. It helps if you also bring the best out of a player then.

“Trent is known for playing as a right full-back, for all his life I think, and when he was a youngster he played in midfield.

“In the modern game, you see a lot of full-backs going into the midfield, that is what he did last season once in a while, and I saw him playing at the Euros in midfield.

“So I think he’s capable of playing both positions really good, and then it’s up to me where I think he could help the team the most.”

Lack of Transfers
QUOTE
“That argument I don’t understand: ‘if you don’t strengthen the team, you become weaker’?” he told reporters.

“That’s a bit weird, because normally you would either stay the same or – and I truly believe – [at] the training ground, you can help players and teams to improve.

“That is also what happened here in recent years, that the training ground really helped the team to improve.

“Maybe what you mean is if the clubs around you do strengthen the team, then maybe they become better, but it’s not always true that if you bring in new players the team becomes stronger.

“I also believe in general that every player in the team needs to have perspective on playing time, and if you keep bringing players in sometimes the energy in the group goes down as well.

“But like I said many times, we – and with we, I mean Richard and me – are trying to strengthen the squad, and if we think we’ve found someone, we try to bring him in.

“Then, unfortunately, the one we thought could help us said no, but in the background, Richard is still trying to improve the team.

“But my main focus at the moment is fully on Ipswich.”

Luis Diaz
QUOTE
“There is a lot of speculation constantly in this country, that is clear for me. So it’s not a surprise for me if I hear you saying that it is also for Luis Diaz.

“Is there any player they don’t talk about?

“His future is with us because I like a lot what I’ve seen in the last 10 days that he’s been in.

“I saw the same last season. He’s had a big impact on Liverpool’s seasons and I’m hoping that he has a big impact in the upcoming season as well.”

Darwin Nunez
QUOTE
“Bring him as much as we can into scoring positions.”

“But again, I think every individual benefits from team performance,” the head coach continued.

“If we, as a team, can bring our attackers – not only him, but also the other ones – as much as we can into dangerous positions, these players will score goals.

“That’s also what we’ve seen in pre-season, where we even scored goals out of smaller chances.

“So it’s up to us to bring him, or Diogo or other attackers, as much as we can into promising positions for them.

“And then he, like all the others, will score the goals.”

QUOTE(torres09 @ Aug 28 2024, 08:10 PM)
I don't understand the gk transfer. Is he better than Kelleher? At least Kelleher is proven in PL and has stayed loyal to the club for so long. Why pay 40mil now and let him stay in Spain for another year? If he play shit this season it's gonna be pie in the face for us for paying so much in advance.
If we gonna pay 40m and Kelleher wants to move, then do it this summer. Really brainfucked with this transfer move.
*

His stat on last season +performance at Euros in helping Georgia qualify to last 16, prove he has potential become elite level gk.

If we don't get him now, we might need to fork out even higher money in the future for Alisson replacement.

Last minute hijack failed by Barca, due to their financial woes, as La Liga got salary cap, so Bajcetic may not be able to register into the squad.

Arne Slot's pre-match press conference vs Manchester United:

New signings
QUOTE
Of course we are happy with the ones we signed because I said many times that it's difficult for us to make the team even stronger because we already have a very strong team. And if we then find them, of course we are very happy with that. Chiesa is someone who can help us for the short term and Mamardashvili is, I think, one of the examples where this club did in the past very good that they look also at the future, long-term future of the club – and that's why we signed him.

Further signings before deadline
QUOTE
“I’m not expecting anything, but again, it’s no different to all the other days before,” the Dutchman explained.

“If we see an opportunity, we could act. But I’m not expecting anything.”

Caoimhin Kelleher
QUOTE
“Maybe, but we have to make decisions as well. It’s not only the player,” he told reporters in his pre-Man United press conference.

“If you work at a club like Liverpool you need competition and we need a lot of good players.

“Mamardashvili is someone for the long future of the club, and I’m really, really happy with the goalkeepers we have at the moment.

“Caoimh is one of them, like Vit [Jaros] and Ali. We’re in a good place when it comes to goalkeepers for now and for the long term.”

Manchester United
QUOTE
Some of them tried to tell me a few things about it, but I don't think that's really necessary. If you're starting to work at Liverpool, everybody knows, every player that comes in knows and every manager that comes in knows how important the game against United is. It's similar to when you work at Feyenoord, how big the game against Ajax is. People tell you, of course, but it's not really necessary because if you follow the game of football, which I do for a long time, you know the importance of Liverpool against United or United against Liverpool.

Federico Chiesa
QUOTE
“Excited [to have signed him], if we sign someone who can help us achieve our goals and improve the squad, of course we are really excited that we brought him in.

“One of the best things about working here, what I’ve noticed so far, is the culture of this team, they work really hard to achieve their goals.

“It is then really important the first player you bring in has that same attitude and brings the same culture.

“He works really hard on and off the pitch to try to get the best of himself, and he combines this with scoring goals and really aggressive without the ball.

“He can play in so many positions, on the right, left and maybe even in the middle. It makes him an interesting signing for us.

“We should take care of him in the beginning because he didn’t train with the team (Juventus) in the last two weeks, but before he did.

“He hasn’t played many game minutes yet, but we have very good performance staff, and we will build him up in the right way and, hopefully, can see his quality in the near future.”

QUOTE
It wouldn't be the first time the English media overexaggerate! I think it is true he had a long-term injury with his ACL, but for the rest I don't think he had big injuries. Minor injuries like every other player maybe. We have a lot of trust in our performance staff and the good thing is he is not the only winger we have: he is one out of four, where some others can play in that position as well. If he is not available at certain moments – not only with him, also the others – then there is still enough players for me to choose.

Arne Slot's pre-match press conference vs Nottingham Forest:

Harvey Elliot
QUOTE
“Harvey it’s, of course, a big disappointment for him, but also for us.

“Ok, he didn’t play that much in the first three games, but he played a lot in pre-season and showed himself really well.

“Of course, if he stayed fit, he would have had a lot of playing time in the upcoming fixtures. Now he isn’t and that now gives a chance to someone else.

“First and foremost, it is a blow to himself and, in the end, also for us because availability is important in a phase of the season where we play seven games in 22 days.

“It is a blow for the both of us, but he will work as hard as always to come back in the best possible way.”

Federico Chiesa
QUOTE
"Federico has trained with the team now 3 or 4 times, so lets see how he does today and what decision I make."

Caoimhin Kelleher
QUOTE
"I would be really be worried if a player comes out saying 'I don't care about playing first team football'.

"It's normal that they want to play, but it's also normal that a club like this has more than 11 players that can play.

"As long as they accept their situation by helping the team when the have to, then it's a good place to be in. Caoimhin has shown every time that he's ready."

Ryan Gravenberch
QUOTE
"He's been a midfielder all his life, but maybe he's playing a bit deeper. It's not that much of a difference.

"Ryan came back strong, played some good games and took his chance. If trust means that you play him, then I trust him, but I also trust the others."

Salah, VVD, TAA contract
QUOTE
"It's again the boring answer from me which you're going to get from me as long as there's no news about this, but we don't talk about contract situations over here.

"Is it a distraction? No it isn't, because I'm fully focused on the individuals and the team, and they are part of the team, and trying to work with them in the best possible way to get the best out of them, so it's not a distraction for me at all."

Alexis Mac Allister
QUOTE
“He was out in the last game but he trained with us yesterday,” Slot told reporters on Friday. “I’m expecting Macca to be with us tomorrow.”

Players get no rest in international break
QUOTE
"In some situations I was happy that they played 90.

"For now, it was a present that I got from most national team coaches. Maybe in the future I would sometimes love for it to be a bit different, but it's a positive thing that we're in such a good place that we have 10 players that can play every minute for their national team, it says a lot about the quality we have."
