Ok when will we give Salah the contract. That was an ice cold penalty to secure the points.
And Virgil too. Outstanding in this match except for the horror moment.

It was a bad decision by Kelleher, but even in this match (not to mention all the games he started this season) he has saved us numerous times with goal line and 1v1 stops. He will learn from this.
Didn't watch the game, only the highlight but the defence was really struggling without Ibou and Isak actually is a top top striker.
We win some we lose some we draw some. Merseyside derby next.

Lol, agree, I really feel frustrated. The team give their all and able to come back already. And most of the players already exhausted. And last min kena this.

I can’t accept this blunder to be honest. It’s not mistakes like trying to dribble, poor positioning, accidentally let the ball slip after catching it, or Onana type of mistakes. All of these I can accept, it’s part and parcel of keepers. But this is a decision making mistake without pressure from opponent. He can just easily catch the ball. But he let it go for a goal kick with zero awareness of surrounding. More so when this is at the end of the match where you must really play safe and no risk taking, especially when u got no idea what is happening behind u.

Just hope this is a one off blunder of similar type from him. If happens again, it gonna impact his reputation badly.

Good thing is, it’s only 2 points dropped. I believe he has gain us more than 2 points this season, so fair play there.

Just hope this will not give extra psychological impact to players. City break its losing streak, Arsenal is back on track when ode is back, Chelsea is performing well under the radar.
*
Chill man. Did anyone seriously think Man City will just keep dropping points and fade away? 4 losses in a row is already a miracle for us.
That's why it is important to forget the points gap. 1 game at a time. Every point gained is a point gained.
Arsenal and Chelsea are good teams with good managers. They won't give us free ride to the title. The good thing I can see is the team is ready to fight. And the manager is keeping everyone grounded.

And please, just freaking give the contract to Salah. His 2 goals were absolutely brilliant and assist to Jones too. Not forgetting 2 assists from TAA who is also out of contract soon.

No need to panic over a bad result as long as the performance level don't drop. also no need to celebrate if teams around us drop points. Take each game at a time.
This is a real exhibition about the unpredictability of EPL where any club can beat another.

Heard news that Virgil and Salah will sign extensions. Hope Trent follows as well

We needed a leftback in the summer. we didn't get one and got a goalkeeper for next season instead.
Robbo was struggling already towards the tail end of last season. Kostas not consistent enough and somewhat injury prone too.
But I admire Slot for keeping the team and getting them to play like they did instead of putting on Quansah. In fact with how it has panned out, I would take out Jones or Szobo and put in Endo and move Grav up to midfield. No point putting in another defender and limiting our formation options. We just need to stop Fulham breaking away on the counter.
Hopefully we can get a point from the game but Marco Silva is also quite a tactician himself too.

almost forgot we're playing with 10...
but anyway...that Fulham goal was just a comedy of errors...
should have been a Gomez own goal too...while Allison was quite far off his near post also...

The only reason for Fulham 2nd goal is because Quansah wasn't strong enough.

No complaints about the performance.
Robbo should apologise in the dressing room. Poor defending for the first goal, poor touch for the sending off. But thank God for Jota, and Darwin with the assist. What a cool finish.
But my MOTM will go to VVD, Gomez or Grav. Colossal performance by the backline.

Robertson been shocking lately. We must renew TAA contract then sell him to madrid asap

I don't understand who you referring to. TAA needs to stay. And he has nothing to do with Robbo's form of late.

Just how impressive was that performance against Fulham, going down 1-0 and playing with 10 men for 80 minutes then fighting back for the draw.
Chelsea just got done 1-2 at home by Fulham.

The worst news with 1st Jan 2 days away, is that we have not tied up all 3 key players on new contracts.
Salah is the best player on the planet now, where to find his replacement and how much would you have to spend to get one, instead of giving him his damn contract? I wouldn't even take Mbappe over Salah now.
TAA, best attacking RB arguably in the world, with his peak years coming ahead, academy product, future captain. Is Bradley good enough to fill his shoes? Where will the 10 or so assist each season come from?
VVD, club captain, steadies the ship, still fit and going strong. Leader that the squad looks up to especially Konate and Quansah
Please fsg do the right thing, don't F around with key players that other teams will snap up in a heartbeat.

I think we all know the contract is there. But if you are the best player on the planet and in your respective positions and are key to the short mid term of the club, surely you are expecting some kind of reflection of your importance in the contract offer.
I think Slot has done a really brilliant job of keeping the team focused on training and the games. And he has also mentioned many times to the board that it is his preference for the trio to stay. We should not look to win the PL this year. We should look to win it many times in the many years to come. Are we ready to lose VVD TAA and Salah now? It's a clear no.
See what they tried to do with Chiesa, who is supposed to be the back up for right wing. Though his ability is not in doubt, do we really believe he can step into Salah's shoes next season? How good will he adapt to the PL and how fit can he be?
Is Conor Bradley ready though he has shown his abilities? Are we relying on Konate Gomez and Quansah for CB next year?
Now I just hope the contract that the board put out has not lowballed or pissed off any one of them that they give up on negotiation.

QUOTE(chaukeng @ Dec 31 2024, 04:45 AM)
I've been thinking about this, from a pure business perspective. Is it worth it to spend extra and aim to win the league; or financially it will be better to spend 'just enough' to stay on top 4. We are fans and we don't care since it's not our money we are spending.

Ie, the owner may analyse it this way, by not extending van dijk for another 3 years, I'm possibly saving 100-150k per week (including salary for a lesser replacement). Thats around 15 million in 3 seasons. During these years, what's the odd of us winning the league with van dijk, and/or maintaining top 4 or winning the league without van dijk. What if, deriving from their data model, they found extending van dijk contract for an extra 15 millions only likely wins us one extra league title out of the 3 seasons; and that will translate to less than 15 million extra prize money (for example). So In this case, should we extend van dijk deal for 3 years?

Also, van dijk and Salah may point to the owner and say Liverpool is top now because of our performance, so we deserve this and this. The owner too can say, this is the best company at the world now, considering you are now a senior employee, this is how much /long we are offering, so take it or leave it else if we budge, it's not just you three, but the rest of your teammates will take your case and knock on our door.

So as much as I want them to sign asap, just trying to look at things from the clubs perspective.
*
So you mean if you are the owner of your company, you will let your top sales person for the past 8 years, and who is currently bringing in record sales figures for the current year for you, leave for nothing and join a rival company? Because he requested for a 20% raise? That's a very weird thing to do. You won't know how much sales he will bring in next year or the year after, but from the past 8 years and the current record smashing year, is your current sales team or new sales guy replacement able to guarantee those numbers for the next 3 years?

Oh and by the way, good job Ipswich!

Having been in retail business for quite some time, I have come to realize no employees are indispensable to the company; no matter how many sales they brought in. If our own company product is good, the new salesperson will be able to deliver the goods eventually. On the context of Liverpool, thus far we have also proven this with the likes of Torres and coutinho. The club also have a proven track record of replacing our star players properly.

Anyway, of course I want all 3 to stay. Just trying to understand the situation from the owner perspective because the chances of all three staying are slim.
*
I get your point, but in this context, you don't have a product. The product is what the players do on the pitch, week in week out. And Salah is the main reason we are having a good "product". And Trent and Van Dijk too.
It just looks like we had so much time (6 months?) to sort this out and day by day we are risking losing 3 key players for Nothing. If FSG truly believed no player is bigger than the club, it would've been wiser to sell them last summer and reinvest, but it didn't happen so...
Talking of recovering from losing key players Coutinho Suarez Torres... How many titles have we won since "recovering"? 1. Like I said earlier, we have a very good team and manager now, we should be aiming to dominate. Win titles every year, challenge in Europe every year. We should not be looking to rebuild the team every 3 years and win a title every 7-8 years. We should be looking to transition the team, buy/sell every season like how SAF dominated for 20 odd years.

Let's hope for good news in the coming days.
