I'm shopping around for a smallish crossover. The priorities are comfort, reliability and low running costs.

Has anyone done this shopping already?

Any thoughts on these 4 models?

Hypothetically Corolla Cross should have lower running cost - no turbo and accompanying supporting parts and not a Boxer engine which is fine but not the easiest engine to work on.

Your priority I would say :-

1. Cross
2. XV
3. HRV / X50

When factor in purchase price, X50 is cheapest car among all choices which already save u about 50k+ onward vs competition if you get the exec variant

can't beat Toyota reliability, especially since Cross using the 20 yr old dinosaur engine

For me Cross num 1. Best balance of interior and boot space. Toyota reliability. Design in and our is decent. Sat in kawan new hrv.. feel smaller than the previous gen. XV is nice to drive but smallest space among them all especially boot space. X50 decent but just browse in their groups, can see some nightmares with spare parts or car stranded many months because no parts to repair.

Ya, based on your list of requirement, I would say best option would be Toyota cross V.

If just purely talking abt comfortability, I would say x50. But maintenance and fuel consumption will be high, since it is turbo engine.

XV with the best handling but the tyre might run out faster since it is AWD. And it's road tax cost most among the 4 options.

HRV...unless you want fuel efficient at the expense of high speed and power, then can take HRV hybrid. If you wan more power then can take turbo, but the maintenance could be expensive due to service A and B requirement. Plus the rear seat less comfortable if compare to Toyota cross.

I think HRV is the worst performance here, even X50 & XV are much more seen in the highway..

HRV turbo is most powerful.

Still most fun to handle is XV. The AWD can actively rotate the car more.

But XV is also most expensive to maintain. Everything is green and sunshine until owner needs to change the differential fluid, and there are 3 of them. Have fun when it is time to replace the plates on central differential.
