Touch ‘n Go eWallet to charge 1% fee for all credit card reload
BUSINESS
Friday, 02 Feb 20246:03 PM MYT

KUALA LUMPUR: TNG Digital Sdn Bhd (TNGD) will implement a 1% fee for all credit card reloads starting February 23, 2024.

Reloads via DuitNow Transfer and debit cards remain free.

“This move is to curb excessive cashing out of credit card balance to bank accounts and offset the heavy cost of credit card reload which TNGD has been subsidising since its inception.

“Users are encouraged to use bank transfers via DuitNow which has exactly the same process as fund transfer among bank accounts,” it said in a s statement.

TNGD chief executive officer Alan Ni said: "As the largest financial institution serving over 20 million e-KYC verified users, we must find a fine balance between convenience, security, and the long-term cost sustainability of our company.”

“To provide consumers more options, we still allow credit card as one of the reload channels, but we also urge users to reload their eWallet via DuitNow Transfers or debit cards, which are both free of charge.”

End up I use cash or credit/debit cards frequently.

Their new points system also extremely chikai.

All dumbo and shitty vouchers. Useful one 1st day already out of quota.

Last time they give you free (0%) chan to tikam just by collecting stamps. Now they’re charging you points to tikam.

Actually, not difficult to partition your wallet into 2 parts, the one topped up with CC cannot cash out.

SPay is doing that.

You top up RM2000 is it?

Currently when you top up above RM1000 with CC will get charged 1%. Below RM1000 free of charge.

After 23 Feb you top up RM1 with CC also will get charged 1%

No. What I don't understand about him and other is,

CC charge 1%.
Then change to cash.

So the problem is 1%.

But Debit card is free, now the problem is money stuck inside.
Reply from the same person.

CC money no stuck inside?

Or the fellow just replying for the sake of replying?

Here's a quick guide on how to reload your eWallet:

- Go to the main page and tap "+Reload"
- A panel will pop up with "eWallet Balance". Tap it
- Enter how much you want to reload. The "Reload Wallet" button will turn blue when you can proceed.
- Tap the "Reload Wallet" button and choose Debit Card or Credit Card.

I noticed this 1% admin fee for credit card reloads since last week of Jan 2024. It's weird because it adds to my transferable balance, even though it says that credit card reloads are not transferable. I'm not sure if this is a glitch or not, but I'll check it out next time.

Touch n go always have this type of stupid policy to milk the users.
For example, last time use touch n go for parking, they charge extra, better use cash
Now they want to charge 1% for. Credit card reload. Better I use my credit card, solid cash or even use other e wallet

Good bye touch n go e wallet, we can easily replace you, not to say you have anything special other wallets cannot do.

Lazada Wallet (Alipay Malaysia) can be used to pay Lazada and Taobao only. No Duitnow QR feature.

TNG wallet is owned by Alipay China and Lazada and TNG/CIMB.

cannot

cashout must be allowed.

just up to service providers to manage the rules, risks, etc

in short, bnm lazy to setup a standardized guidelines and applied equally to all ewallets.

because someone else already set the precedence (aka approved by bmm) to charge the so-called "convenience fee" for cc reload.

so, other ewallets would likely follow the trend and may have been seeking permission from bnm.

now u see the double-std of how they bend their own guidelines huh

good thing so far only capped to 1% based on market comparison. unlikely allowed to go higher.

err what if i want to reload my tng card that i use for toll?

its not fair to charge me 1% when i use it for genuine purpose where it cannot be cashed out at all right?

so i top up RM200 tng for toll/parking, i have to pay extra RM2?

Bravo !

Current if > Rm1k baru kena 1%

23rd Feb = Anything kena 1%

So dont reload, and just scan let auto reload when makan or buy thing. Free of 1%

But some merchant use personal TnG(Not merchant), then it will force to reload due to can't auto

withdraw is not the issue. tng is the one processing it.

cc reload is charged by tng's gateway and/or acquiring bank which processes your cards (cc/DC/prepaid)

DC/prepaid also got charge, just much lower and minimal impaxt.

Bravo !

Current if > Rm1k baru kena 1%

23rd Feb = Anything kena 1%
So dont reload, and just scan let auto reload when makan or buy thing. Free of 1%

But some merchant use personal TnG(Not merchant), then it will force to reload due to can't auto

Auto reload using CC = no charge?
Manual reload using CC = charge?

Some credit card need to meet min requirement to spend maybe 2k or any figure to receive cashback.

I think so, can be one of the reason.

Not to say abuse.

See it this way. I want to use my credit card money for those merchants who don't accept credit card. By top up using credit card to my TnG ewallet, indirectly, I am able to use my credit card money to pay the merchants who don't accept cards.

Edit: By top up using credit card, I can earn bank card points. Then I redeem the points, get reward or cashback from the bank.

yeah, been doing this for some time, i get cashback from cc, get to bring less cash and use TnG where places can accept ewallet only.
i dun transfer money back to bank, its actually a win win, credit card got real spending, TnG got real spending, user get cashback.
but if they start charging cc, well, either earn lesser cashback or revert back to cash/cc.
I dun think i will move away from TnG just yet, I choose TnG outta some other ewallet due to the widely used places last time, so its
kinda opposite way if i ditch TnG and go for others now. till something changed in the future of coz. smile.gif

This isn’t a good move, but I’m surprised after so many years banks still haven’t come up with such concept where we can scan qr code and auto reload using cc to pay using bankapp to shops to prevent the use of cash.

Imagine a cc based duitnow and good adoption among all vendors

Convenient fee is legal it seems. And wondering if merchants can do the same or not at retail shop. 1% for cc users lol

I’ve wrote to BNM previously and never gotten any reply. Even after sending 3 reminders for response but it seems no one is working or bothered about it. Our BNM is weak as fuck. Even MAS reply in a day no matter how much Singaporeans complain and keep you updated.
*
surcharge for using cc and passing down to customer is prohibited. bnm has been reminding this previously.

but somehow it can be circumvented by using convenience fee for the reload service used by providers

also, by right, any fees imposed to customers must be reviewed and approved. BNM has oversight committee monitoring these.

as usual, enforcement is none and usually they take action once they receive complaints from the public.

since tng dares to issue press statement for this 1% fee, obviously they are in compliant, therefore already approved by bnm to impose this fee.

remember, 1% fee is not their revenue. it's to cover the cost they are bearing. so, in bnm point of view, tng didn't impose 1% to make money, but to pay the reload service fee. I guess this is the grey area, by passing down their operating cost back to customers.

the only way WE can do is viral it, pressure bnm, which indirectly will pressure tng back.

depends on whether bnm want to flex their power over tng or not la.

like ipay88 and cimb fiascos, bnm just fined them and ask them to provide corrective actions. no serious penalty like CEO fined or jailed, license suspended or revoked, etc.

business still goes as usual.

If you get cash advance through cc, there is a fee. So you reload to ewallet then withdraw cash there, no fee.

The fee is not as high and interest.

Let’s say u reload tng and cash out 1k u pay 10
For cc u get charged min 15-25 withdrawal fee + 15 interest for a month repayment. Thats approximately 30-40 for the same 1k assuming you don’t owe cc anything else. Otherwise could be even higher interest and it’s charged daily from the day u withdrawn.

Imagine this, you topup RM1k to tng, then you withdraw out and pay back your cc account. However, your cc comp rewards you with RM50 cashback. And all it took is a few clicks and a visit to a certain retail (that you frequently visit anyway).

Auto reload = money reload to tng ewallet and immediately pay to merchant.

manual reload = reload and money stay in tng ewallet
*
You mean Quick Payment?

Auto Reload will reload after ewallet reach certain amount and will stay in wallet. Like when balance below RM20, auto reload RM50.

Quick Payment and Auto Reload can work together, let say you paying merchant for RM100 but wallet only has RM10, it will auto reload RM90 and perform payment of RM100. In this case i assume Auto Reload with cc will be charge RM0.90.

well... only credit card nd debit card can setup auto reload and quick payment..

due to some past issue with "stolen" card info.. i already have my bank card debit card limit set to 0 and use credit card for payment only as credit card can esily block and reverse the payment in case there are some unauthorized usage.

I don’t exactly need to withdraw the 1k as I using ewallet most of the time. But the 1k buffer reduce the burden to spend 2.5k (on card) monthly.

Now I guess to enjoy same perks, need to sacrifice RM10-20 of the cashback to TnG fee.

It's an abuse because there's no transaction done that benefits TnG.

You top up with CC, TnG pays a fee to banks. Banks pay a reward to you. You withdraw it, TnG don't get to charge any merchants a fee like they usually do.

So it's an abuse from their view. You don't pay anything at all.

We need more people to complain to BNM about those apps with surcharges but unfortunately lack of support.

Unless it goes viral and pressure BNM about their incompetence, those apps can just get away by calling it convenience fee instead of surcharge or administrative charge. The wordings allows for such charges it seems.

People usually prefer to just rant around or in fb and not go through the proper channels for responses

Top up through QUICK PAYMENT also need to pay 1% fee? because i usually leave low balance in my TnG Ewallet and once confirmed the purchase amount, the ewallet will auto top up purchase amount exactly through the saved credit card. I hope this features remain available and no 1% fee imposed.............Because i do not attempt to cash out the balance, purely for retail purchase.

All this news about 1% from credit card is creating confusion
Although the news article states clearly that as long as you use credit card, will charge 1%
But ktards all dunno how to read and keep saying if reload other ways using credit card won’t charge

Anyway there is no official news from TNG themselves until now. All news is from 3rd party news portal

*
There has no official statement about the 1% fee from TnG yet.

By logically I think when you saved your card for low balance auto reload which is called Quick Payment, it is also a top up. It tops up your ewallet to pay merchants.

I don't use it for the cash back stuff. I used it because of convenience sake. 60/70 can only buy like 3 starbucks drinks la. Ok la for me every month.
Haha pity u so poor that 60-70 ringgit a month is something for you. 60-70 per month is nothing la nowadays.

One lunch also 40-50 bucks dy.

This is the new UX that I've got since last week...You will get this after breaching the RM1K credit card transaction limit.

And the encumbrance when reaching the limit where you can't scan non-TNG DuitNow QR codes from merchants until next month...

They thing I don't agree that they are going to charge us 1% service fee even just reload less than RM1000. Why can't keep the current RM1000 limit free of charge?

I understand the credit card reload function they provide has service fee imposed by bank to TnG company. But they also earn profits from the amount of money we deposit to e-wallet, they are holding our money.

The scenario is like you go to a PC shop in lowyat plaza, they tell you if you pay by credit card they charge you extra 1% for the CC service which was IMPOSED TO MERCHANTS. FYI, Bank Negara already banned such practice. We have the right to pay by CC without any extra charges. I don't know whether TnG ewallet company is in line with the Bank Negara.

The thing is enforcement didn't perform strict spot checks on those merchants that imposes extra charges when end users uses CC at Lowyat plaza

consumer only pandai blame, but dint know is their responsibility to report.
if u report, very fast action will be taken by bank, bcoz if not, bank will face fine by bank negara.

ie, some merchant, they still impose a rule that u need to spend minimum RM50 for example to use CC payment.
that is illegal practice, & u as consumer, is not rant on social media, but is to ask, or take a peek of what CX machine they use, then launch a complain to the bank via the BNM app.

i tried b4, within couple of days, the bank call me & ask me for the incident details.
then another few days, they called me again saying they hav issued warning to that merchant.

Btw why don’t they just impose a fee on cash out?

The cost is too huge for them to absorb, 100mil x 1% = RM1mil.

Don't forget they have to pay for their staff cost, cloud services and other operating cost.

I don't see any problem with the charge.

Can always reload with Duitnow if you want to avoid the cost.

People need to realise that convenience come with a cost.
Stop being entitled biatch and complain about everything. Nobody stopping you from using other ewallets.

I don’t exactly need to withdraw the 1k as I using ewallet most of the time. But the 1k buffer reduce the burden to spend 2.5k (on card) monthly.

Now I guess to enjoy same perks, need to sacrifice RM10-20 of the cashback to TnG fee.
*
if they are "sincere" on the withdrawal loophole/abuse. they should just charge 1% for the withdrawal rather than reload. obviously, they are not, they just want to reduce thier cost like those merchant who set extra charge for payment via CC.

answer is simple. they wanna reduce the cost (they are bearing) for the reload via CC. not exactly/entirely because ppl cash out or whats not.

That’s why now they do not support ppl take "advance" cash from CC via TNG. Advance/loan from CC got charges, but with TNG no interest LOL.
so ... debit card reload no fee since reload from your own money.

for me it fair previously with RM1k free of charges, the rest are chargeable 1% if want transferable balance.
If non transferable, then no 1% charge on reload.

now no matter what, all need to charge 1% except reload by cash or cash equivalent literately

If this is the case, me will use less or keep to minimum level usage.
for me using CC to reload as form of convenience and another layer of safety (me use 1 CC with lowest credit limit as precaution to auto topup) If now need my debit card as auto topup (no thanks)

Will look for other methods of payment now

If continue park in GO+ some sum of money and use it for quick reload should be 0% charge, right? If so why don't just park small amount there and use it to buy stuff?

Quick reload also supports Debit card. If you don't feel comfortable to link your debit card but also don't want to pay 1% , then Bank transfer via Duitnow seems your only option. BTW, transfer money to GO+ and earn 3.x% is way better than keeping your money in your bank checking account which gives you like 0.2% interest... why not?

TNG wallet has a Auto Reload function. Basically, it allows you set something like "reload xxx RM, when balance below xxRM". It works for both Credit card and Debit card

Hi all, question for the 5% Cashback from Maybank Islamic Ikhwan Mastercard Gold Card-i.

Per T&C, I will need to spend total RM1k in Petrol and Groceries on Fridays and Saturdays to get RM50 Cash Back.

Question - My monthly spend on these is around RM400. What are some tips and tricks to increase this amount to get the most Cash Back?

E.g. If I buy prepaid or tng pin topup at 99, will it count? Since technically, 99 is a hybrid grocery store.

Or maybe buy stuff from the Petrol Station Convenience store?

Not 2% but 0.5%, and not all merchants.

Are all SME merchants subjected to MDR?

It is only applicable to merchants who use static QR and meet these criteria:
- SME merchants with five (5) outlets/branches and above as per SSM certificate or
- Merchants with cashless payment terminals
