The AliOS Things service don't need public IP to phone home. It connect back as part of the boot process instead of listening to a port.
In the news source, Skyworth is implicated as well so I don't trust them either.

The question:
Is Huawei or ZTE that expensive? They are making ONU for the whole world. If they really plant malware in their device, rest assure all those cyber security company from the West will be writing about it. They have been writing about a bunch of router / firewall implants.

What is the true reason for moving to some custom, unknown brand?
D-Link is not known to make ONU but Huawei and ZTE is.
Who wanted the D-Link backdoor-ed? TM? Government?
*
Cha, I know that. There are some basic tweaks that users with public IP can do to protect their IoT and other smart devices, this includes computers, laptop, and other portable devices that uses home-wifi internet access. Personally, when I used the black D-Link 2.5GbE ONR before before selling it, I disable almost all unwanted features thou I am behind CGNAT.

With D-Link's reputation dropping like birds shit, I dont trust the brand at all. Deswai I am maintaining my current subscription plan without upgrading. I used 800Mbps before and eligible for FSU to 1Gbps. But, opt to take the rahmah plan instead since I dont utilize much internet speed these days. As long as I can do my job is okay and at the same time I pay for the actual speed I use without wasting my unused bandwidth and money on paying for unused bandwidth.

Anyone having problem accessing account info from unifi.com.my?

Have been getting message Looks like we have a problem while getting your account information. since few days ago
*
Idk how they designed such incompetence system. I just saved the account ID and paying monthly via autopay. Never bother to check their apps or website. Waste of time and energy bro.

Edit:
I can login to unifi account info.

Good call. Even if you paid for higher speed and test with your expensive Oracle Cloud or AWS instance you won't get full speed except the time when most people are asleep. On the other hand, Ookla speedtest will always get more than max speed even when the network is broken like 18 August.
*
I dont fancy with high speed these days, I prefer I pay for what I use. Thou the download time may take some time, I can use the time for other productivity things. So, an internet is an internet, doesn't matter its 1mbps or 2gbps. As long as you can access, good already.

Not in a hurry but eventually by year end need to login to download the statement for tax relief

On autopay, I will never subscribe again

Once I was charged RM2,000 because they made a mistake in the bill (wrong unifi tv plan given and they removed and add correct plan) so it triggered 'early termination' fees

I can tell you it was a nightmare asking them to issue a chargeback to my credit card doh.gif

Anyway in the midst of chatting with Live Chat and here we go again... ask to clear cache doh.gif
*
I used e-wallet autopay. So on the 6th day of new month, I will cash in the right amount i used to pay for the internet. It will deduct accordingly. Never used bank's autopay.

Can I check with the experts here on the speed upgrade?

I am on landed fibre and I am thinking of switching over to Unifi 300mbps from Sunway internet.

1. Is it still true that Unifi 300mbps will have higher "priority" for bandwidth over 100mpbs users?
2. Will the latency on 300mbps better than on 100mpbs?
3. Some users reported their speed gets upgraded recently. This is applicable for new subscribers too?

Currently I am using 100mbps the only complain I have is during peak time from 8pm to 11pm internet not very smooth.
*
Always go for bundled services for internet + mobile plan. Better value compared to standalone services. Be a smart consumer. Other than unifi, please check what other fiber service provider in your area. Inquire, ask them how you can maximize their plan with the value you will be paying for the next 24 months and so on. Satisfied, proceed. Else; repeat the circle again.

well you also get one less thing to remember every month thumbsup.gif

I segregate the payments on monthly basis, and bank acc used for online shopping. Never touch or used the main one. Hahaha. Healthy cybersecurity practice. I know the right time where I will be billed. So will cash in the money a day before auto-pay deducts the money.

ASUS ExpertWiFi EBR63. A AX3000 WiFi 6 router for SME businesses. They do have various expertwifi network gear lineup, including a gigabit VPN router.

The UI is similar to Ubiquiti products fyi. I think there will be dark mode, judging from current_theme=white condition (developers/coders/programmers will get this).

any idea whether will they be any buyer for unifi DIR 842 router? hehe...
*
Flash with openwrt firmware. Use it till it gave up. I saw a post in FB (TM Unifi Members), dude used back his openwrt-dir842 and gave up his Skyworth ONR. Don't sell the router. I prefer router designs to be small and sleek like the good old DIR-615 days. Nowadays router is too bulky and more into selling compared to those days where the router only fulfils its duty, and ability to flash custom firmwares liike ddwrt, and openwrt.

Edit:
Glad wired vpn routers still uses USFF chassis. Another reason to opt for them if you are networking enthusiast and plan your home networking, especially likes those who setup their own homelab.

For those more knowledgeable about these things: is there a way they can block DoH without just IP blocking the DNS provider (Google, Cloudflare, quad9, etc.)?

I understand DoT can be blocked by blocking port 853.

Blocking IPs and domain. Some of the IPs and domains are listed here.

My next option is to either use nextdns or ControlD service since ISP eyes on CF and Google DNS now, or probably, they eying on all public DNS service.

i read something new from celcom fibre to home for 1gbps.. how different is it from current unifi performance?  anyone knows how this tech work?
*
For their 1Gbps plan they provide optional FTTR installation 1+1 . At least they are using good or pretty decent mesh and ONR. I personally liked Celcomdigi's approach. Maxis is using 2.5GbE Wi-Fi 6E Kaon router for their 2Gbps users. Meanwhile unifi... supplying cheap ONRs to their customer.

Edit:
I forget to add this. If you okay to be assigned or under Private IP / CGNAT / NAT444 deployment, then okay lor. Can bundle with your postpaid and enjoy certain %s. Since most of the IoT devices can be accessed over the internet with the apps anyway, so; I find, public IP is still relevant for certain use.

At last, since aug already kena lock SWU4.0 lagi best package...300mbps. And since than the shit Unifi speed daily during peak 6pm to12pm. Plus fiasco with poison DNS/hijack. Anyone who is free should seriously consider jumping to another provider who gives good routers/onr
*
Maxis good if you want public IP regardless package with additional RM10/month, and ability to use standalone network device;
else
Celcomdigi is okayish if you want to use a stock, yet decent ONR from ISP.
in return,
if you want to enjoy ridiculous discounts or price cut through certain ISP programmes, unifi is the way; but need to sub high tier package if you want public IP.

I personally prefer maxis approach in terms of flexibility with additional pay while celcomdigi for decent ONR supply.

Good comment. In terms of speed consistency, is maxis ok vs Unifi? I have been loyal to maxis for >15 years, but consistency is not there however I am a moderate user so not big fuss to it.
Just for knowledge
*
I cannot promise on maxis's fiber services due to it depends on area and people. For me, I am 11 years with Unifi. So far, I had nearly 99.99% uptime. Satisfied with the service. Maxis only wins in terms of additional pay for public IP even if you at your lowest plan. No need to convince about cctv like those days. You mau public IP, bayar RM10/m settle. haha.

I was a 800Mbps user. I find it is overkill for me both in terms of monthly commitment and not utilizing the speed to its fullest potential. So, just grabbed the Rahmah plan and happy. I always maxed out the speed and happy to fully utilize the speed I subscribed for, except CGNAT can be troublesome at a time. But I am not happy with the Rahmah pricing plan. If I topup RM20, I could get a solid 100Mbps plan. Not sure how they come up with this pricing strategy.

QUOTE(aizamev @ Oct 7 2024, 10:56 PM)
sorry if late to ask. i work in hotel industry. never subscribe to unifi until last month. i subscribe temporary line 800Mbps for my hotel. the rate is RM1899 for a month before tax.

they advertise will supply with wifi 6 router. and i received skyworth GN630V. upon checking, it actually wifi 5 router according to manufacturer. and do some googleling found out unifi also supply Fiber Home FH9478 that really wifi 6 router.

felt cheated with unifi. can i claim or report this case?
*
All ONRs supplied by TM/Unifi now is Wi-Fi 6 certified. Please put the reference link here to prove your claim bro. Else it is consider as misguiding to other user. So far, unifi supplies:

1. D-LINK DPN3060 (WH) - 1GbE LAN/WAN port
2. D-LINK DPN3060 (BK) - w/ 2.5GbE LAN/WAN port
3. Skyworth GN630V AX3000
4. Fiberhome AX3000
5. ZTE AX3000 (Haven't seen this model yet, someone said unifi will supply ONR from this brand in this forum)

Based on my observation and reports, except Fiberhome, other ONRs are really problematic especially the D-Link ONR. Skyworth as per report has wireless coverage problem and requires reboot. As for the design of the ONR, I prefer the sleek design of Fiberhome over any other ONRs provided by unifi.

I got D-LINK DPN3060 for 1gbps line

Am I supposed to get 1 or 2 router?

I saw someone setup GPON bridge.

Do I also get GPON cable extra?
*
The trend that unifi / tm following is supplying ONR (optical network router). Basically it is a combo box unit that combines modem and wireless router functionality into a single box. The problem with such setup is, if the ONR from reputable brand like Huawei, I would say, getting the ONR for free is worth it. Vice versa, if you getting some random bs ONRs, then you will spend time solving connectivity issues than enjoying your internet.

Basically, you can setup the ONR to function as a normal ONU and you can use your own router. But, the bridge mode has some bug, if not my mistaken. It reduces your speed over the time. I am not sure about this. You may need to skim the thread again.

I also heard that TM going to introduce a new XG/XGSPON ONU from TP-Link where you can use your own router again. Again, take this as a pinch of salt.

I see. But I didn't set as bridge mode. I just turn off the wifi and set my router as AP mode

Do you think this way will not have bridge bug?
*
I would say if you are good with networking device, you can try and error. So far the bug only affected D-Link ONRs, not sure about other brands thou as I am not following the thread like old time. Else, just wait patiently for the new 2.5GbE modem to roll out from tm.

Got a friend that recently renewed his contract for 300mbps package.
That 2in1 modem/router he got from TM is from FiberHome HG6145F3. Not Huawei.
*
The huawei ONR I was referring to is TIME. brows.gif . I already provide the list in few pages back in this thread for stock unifi router.
