Hi, does your family still cook Peranakan dishes? If there's any dish that hasn't been introduced here yet, please let me know.

Is this the recipe for the dish?

I find the calendar a bit complex; could you please share your preferred layout?

May I inquire if the calendar is from a Peranakan dressing/sauce company?

My great-grandmother was a Nyonya, but my family moved from Penang to Johor around the 1970s.

Are you Peranakan?

May I know if this chili belongs to the Peranakan cuisine?

Make pengat and cook traditional Baba Nyonya dishes

Pengat, a popular Penang Nyonya dessert is usually made and served in the **** morning of Chap Goh Meh *******

for most Penang Baba Nyonya families.

Peter Yeoh, a sixth generation Baba from Penang, said that the pengat is similar to Bubur Cha Cha but the ingredients used for both desserts are not entirely the same.

Pengat made from a variety of ingredients including gula melaka, pandan leaves and brown sugar and served on festive occasions. —

“Ingredients such as bananas, gula melaka, pandan leaves, and brown sugar are used in pengat which makes it a very rich and authentic delicacy.

We will then serve the pengat to our deities by ******12 noon********,” he said.

Means before 12 noon?

Yeoh, however, said that although the dish is a passed-down delicacy, there are new ingredients that his mother has added such as the black-eyed beans and sago jelly.

Baba Nyonya, Cheng Wei Da: "Lantern Festival is a significant celebration for us Chinese.

Eating Pengat is a representative dessert enjoyed by the whole family after a meal, symbolizing family reunion.

The main ingredients include yam, sweet potatoes in various colors – red, purple, and yellow, representing vibrant and auspicious hues.

Additionally, bananas and glutinous rice cakes signify continuous prosperity.

Since Lantern Festival is also considered our Chinese Valentine's Day, indulging in these sweet treats symbolizes a sweet and blissful life.

Traditionally, Pengat, a dessert enjoyed during the Lantern Festival, ************ is often cut into diamond shapes, **************

symbolizing the attraction of wealth and prosperity.

Most Peranakan moved to Penang/SG in the last decade, you can see the increasing influence and food sold there. In Malaysia, I am afraid only Melaka is the only place left and even that is lesser due to increasing racism and Islamization. Note that despite marrying Malays, Peranakans are not Muslims as required by "law" in the past.

Source: My gf is Peranakan descendant.

But for that reason I believe they are not consider bumiputera either

The migration and non-Muslim are originally not a factor to become Bumi/Peranakan. It was simply love between two races back in Melaka. When the NEP started then Arab-isation by Anwar in UMNO decades back, then only the requirement of Bumis = Malays + muslims are set. If the current definition of Bumis are being imposed back in the old days, Sabah, Sarawak and many alliances will cease to be since they won't want that kind of unfair arrangement.

Some people said that Peranakan birth certificates in 1960 indicated Bumiputera status for newborns.
