I have Celcom and Maxis lines in my Fold 5.

From what I observed is that Maxis will connect to 5G more frequently and immediately in areas with 5G.

Celcom will tend to stick to its 4G+.

As all telcos share the same DNB 5G towers, my conclusion is that Celcom will prefer not to connect to DNB 5G so often as they have to pay DNB based on data consumed?

Remember the rm10 fee thingy....

Probably one reason why on hold with 4G first...

Later October only faster automatically connect to 5G since u paying the "access fee" 😁

Well...

I observed.... Areas with weak 4G signal tend to have better 5G signal coverage....

I think Telco purposely didn't upgrade or add more towers... Why waste $$$ on old technology.... Now with 5G... Ride on DNB infrastructure only.... Cheaper & just pay some access fees... Cheaper than building own tower & stuff for 4G πŸ‘

Eh, my one pulak is different story. My iPhone seems not always getting connected with 5G and go for 4G, but my Oppo (Android) always connected with 5G. I put both Celcom & Maxis network on my iPhone 14 Pro Max and put '5G On' mode. Both act the same.

For eg. when I went to the place with 5G available, suddenly iPhone changed to 4G and stick to it but my Oppo still in 5G mode (full bar). My Oppo with Celcom network btw dry.gif

I believe it's mainly because Celcom, a GLC, has fewer experienced/talented high-tech staffs than Maxis, a private enterprise.

Fyi, Celcom and other celcos buy wholesale 5G access from DNB at per Gbps pricing or according to their bandwidth capacity needs, not at per GB data pricing.

Celcos have to impose low monthly data caps/limits for their affordable mobile 4G/5G phone plans and monthly FUP data caps/limits, in order to prevent 4G/5G network hogging by certain greedy cheapo subscribers bc 4G/5G networks or cell-towers are prone to traffic congestion during peak hours from 8pm to 1am, esp on weekends - unlike telcos' fixed/immobile Fiber networks. .......

https://soyacincau.com/2022/04/07/digital-n...ffer-published/ - DNB publishes Reference Access Offer, 5G wholesale to cost telcos RM30K per Gbps monthly - 7 April 2022

.... If  you’re looking at actual geographical mobile network coverage in Malaysia, Celcom is ranked #1 at 9.2 out of 10 points, followed by Digi and Maxis which record 8.6 points each, followed by U Mobile at 7.7 points and Unifi at 7.0 points. In this category, Yes ranked last at 6.9 points, which is very close to Unifi Mobile. This shouldn’t come as a surprise as the big four telcos are established longer and have a more extensive nationwide 4G coverage. ...
user posted image

Celcom, being a GLC, is often quite shabby and inefficient in high-tech matters. This may explain the worsening of the recently merged Celcom-Digi 4G network. Similarly for TM Unifi Fiber, another GLC. Why is this.?

The above posts, fyi, ie Celcom is likely having problems merging it's 4G network with Digi's 4G network - so, likely also for Celcom-Digi's latest high-tech 5G services being lacking behind other private celcos like Maxis.

If you have Maxis in SIM1 and Celcom in SIM2, reverse it and try again. Your lousy phone cant be bother to connect to 5G on SIM2.

If you ask about coverage disregarding speed, quality, etc but just to talk; I'd say Celcom is the best.

Maxis normally will have better data because their operation model is focusing on area that can get more profit i.e. more populated area by providing more capacity for example.

I agree it is different.

Say if you are in an area with good Celcom/Maxis and also DNB 5G coverage. I believe your Telco can control if they will connect your phone to their cell tower or DNB 5G tower. My rationale is that if they connect you to DNB 5G towers, they need to pay for data usage whereas if it is their own tower, no extra cost to them.

i guess this is dependent on which telco covers the area we are Just like for my case, although these two telcos provides 5G coverage to my place (as evidenced from their coverage maps), neither one gives me satisfactory signal. I have to resort to other telcos finally.

Lately, I notice that Celcom's 5G connection is slow, with speed of less than 10 Mbps at certain times. When I switch to Celcom LTE, then I can get up to 80 to 90 Mbps. Some more in full bars 5G coverage area in KLCC, Mid Valley.

I also have Maxis. When I switch to Maxis, their 5G speed is 100 Mbps or more.

So I can say that Celcom 5G sucks and issue not with DNB as Maxis no issue with high speed 5G.

Tested both… which is correct. Celcom still stick to 4G after 1 years.. sad.
