How do we know whether the battery is full charged?
I don't want to install any additional software like NHC as it's hogging the space.

Any idea or maybe some small mb. prog.?

the Charging light off mean charge finished.

have u tried AutoCAD, ProE or Catia personally? cuz those softwares are pretty cpu intensive, even on OCed 900mhz celeron
*
If you can stand speed (yes, it quite slow if AutoCAD wasn't install in SSD) + the small screen. Yes, it can handle well.

Even can run smooth on Vista Ultimate... icon_idea.gif

_______________________________________________________________________

my concept is, install that for emergency use, like urgent modify and edit on the spot...Eee PC can handle it, just the speed is slowwww....

(But Eee PC is faster than Pentium 2.8Ghz HT and even 3Ghz HT, wins superpi!

after gathering informations on "installing Window XP on Eee PC",i'm thinking of installing XP on it as well. tongue.gif But i hv some questions for that, newbie ma sad.gif :

1) Which will u recommend, full window XP SP2 or nLite XP? ( If running on 1G RAM and 4G SDHC)
A: If you think you pro enough, then go nlite XP, which can get 2.7G free space after disable the paging file since you has 1G RAM.
Regular XP pro still can get 1.3G with full updates, but only windows + Antivirus (AVG free) without application.

2)B4 installing XP,u need to set "bios of OS installation" to "start" and after end,set it to "end"? ( that's when Eee still in Lunix, rite?)
A: Yes. If not, the installation window will has many problem. after that need to set back to "Finished" in order to get USB 2.0, if not, it just run 1.1 and webcam is disabled.

3)Is it recommend to create a 100MB(or bigger?) ram disk as temparary internet storage?
A: RAMDISK can be made like 256-512mb or more if u use 1G RAM. i set mine for 384mb as ramdisk. Move windows temp, IE temp, fire fox temp to there. But cant feel the changes....But will minimize the usage for SSD... (although the data proof that SSD can last longer than regular HDD...)

4)Is it better to turn off paging file?
A: If you has 1G RAM or more, you can disable it. Since the Paging file make HDD as temporary RAM if RAM memory low.

5)How to create "123MB for fixed ram drive"(or bigger?)
A: Try Google it.....Forget what name of my ramdisk....=.=" rclxub.gif

6)How to set "paging file 64max, IE, XP temp to ram drive, firefox cache dir to ram drive too" ?
A: Paging is not recommended, but IE and firefox can set it by change the temporary file directory to RAM disk.

7)Is it recommend to change ram from 1G to 2G and add a 4G SDHC/8G SDHC?
A: Currently use 1G RAM (2G at my friend there...will get it by next week) and 8G Class6 SDHC. Some review said no much different for 1G and 2G RAM....As i know is, we can get the different if we open much much more web page...

Thank u very much biggrin.gif

A-Data Write speed: 8mb/s ++
Read speed : 17mb/s ++

(Tested from Eee PC's SD slot. But i think it will be faster if use card reader or test on other pc)

We can try the similiar application like nlite --------vlite

Use it, can slim down your vista to 6xxmb iso file (cause i need networking and IE....so mine takes around 1G for ISO file)

After install.....yes, left 400++mb only.....because the paging file takes 1.6G already....Since my Eee use 1G RAM (next few day will be 2G), so i just left my paging file to 256mb initial and max 256mb. (Save up 1.2G.....tongue.gif)

Of coz....we cant get this fixed memory space....the Winsxs file will grow up if u install more and more application....

Now, i didn't install any updates, just some application needed, left 1.2G....

I don't think this was taken from an eee pc. Because the screen resolution is not correct.
If I am not mistaken the resoulution of the eee pc is 800×480. But in the pic it is 800x600.
Please correct me if I am wrong.

Thank you.

HaiZ......yes. it take from Eee PC, but in 800x600 resolution.

800x480 resolution is NOT compatible to most of the application....need to move up and down...

i use my Eee as Play/flashing/working device....

Play
1. Use as movie player (rmvb, avi, wmv and all other format), music player.
2. When free, can play Warcraft also.....(Dota...hehe!) No lag and very smooth when playing.....hehe!

Flasing
1. i had flashing ubuntu....eeexbuntu....XP.....Vista.....many many time this week....But only the Vista can last longer....why? can show off ma....hehe!
(Using Vista Ultimate Vlite, space left 1.2G after important windows update)

Working...
1. Need IE and ActiveX......Working good and act fast than my desktop
2. Portable and can change the resolution to higher although need to scroll up and down (if is 1024x768 or 1280x1024, need to scroll right and left too....)

Battery Life....
I think the default OS drain more power than using XP. And i think the vista will drain more than them since i didn't disable the superfetch and side bar....

Greetings !!
You can even play WC using it as well ? Impressive .. blink.gif .. I believe the default Linux OS drains more power and kinda lagging ..
I would like to know .. using the default OS or Windows is better in terms of protection against viruses, trojans .. and etc ..
*
install Antivirus will solve the problems. And remember to enable the firewall. Still never get virus so far....

QUOTE(myqd @ Feb 3 2008, 01:15 PM)
thanks for the reply, after installing nLited XP,anyone mind to share what's the start up(from the time u press power button till the led stop blinking) and shup down time?

another question, anyone use Eee PC for watching video clips in cars? What's the adaptor u used for charger Eee in car? I saw the origibal AC charger stated @680mAh,9.5V output,is it ok that we use DC/DC car adaptor @300mA,9 or 12 V?

or is there any compatible incar charger for Eee?

thanks in advance  biggrin.gif

Was using the vlite Vista Ultimate now. Previously using the nlite XP Pro SP2 which can get 2.4G free space and less unused application. the boot up time for mine still round 45sec for nlite XP Pro, vlite Vista Ultimate will take around 1min++.

Shut down time for nlite XP pro is almost 10sec or below, depend what programs are running background. vlite Vista Ultimate........haiz....less than 20sec, but more than 12sec....if windows update done...take around 30sec....(bottle neck for proccessor?)

Battery time....nlite XP will last longer....with Wifi on for surfing net, can tahan 3hrs and still left 20%. Vista still haven't get test yet...

i use the 0511 BIOS for 900Mhz (has option for best battery, 630Mhz, and best performance, 900Mhz). And this BIOS doesn't cause any problem. same as 0401 BIOS.

____________________________________________-

My Eee PC + Windows Vista Vlite + 1G RAM + 900Mhz

Starting time = 30sec
shutdown time = 35sec++

100% - 20% = 1hrs ++ RMVB movie watching over networking (file at my main pc in Living Room, use Wifi and lie on bed watching on Eee), more than 30min friendster search + surf net....)

Side bar activated, brightness at 3rd stage, sound at 50%

XP is the most stable and fast OS than Vista.

XP can do most of the thing that desktop and laptop can do. (Although the Vista can....but it cant use Aero.....T_T )

i install vista is to "show off" . . . . . . tongue.gif
Everyone saw it will say "Wa......", "so geng ah????" "Walau eh!!!"

(Vista still can handle my work....so continue it....)
