EEE PC is for who need the real mobility feature with light task.

But Eee PC with Win XP is near perfect as laptop with just the screen smaller and lack of internal memory.

What i found that EEE PC is worth for money is (XP):
1. SSD
2. LED Backlight screen
3. Small and light for easy to take it/ use it everywhere.
4. And yes, able to run some games like WarCraft3 and StarCraft.
5. No problem viewing RMVB and AVI movie clip.
6. Battery life.....superb

Damm it....

For every EEE user, please dun tuning your eee with disable or anything about the services for Win XP if you dun understand what's that services for.

For me, i had format 3 times cause of that. Now, again.....

The Wifi, LAN is not able to use after change some of the Services (Cant remember what had i done last night about the Services)
Haiz.....Format again tonight....

_______________________________________________________

Use regular Win XP to install. No need NLite for Eee since it just save up 100-300mb after Windows Updates and has chance for some feature become malfunction (ie ActiveX, some tiny feature needed or others)

If has 1G RAM or more, just turn off the paging file (512mb RAM not recommend), disable the system restore and some trick from Asus User Manual. (save up until 2.2G free space before windows updates, 1.9G after all updates done)

DUN TRY IT!

That's the 1st XP installation for my Eee. Alot of necessary thing cant run, like ActiveX and more. (ie CCTV software, cant run also)

Now.....Wifi cant connect to my AP (Shop and home), plugin the LAN port, blinking (unplug....connecting...unplug....connecting...)

Added on December 17, 2007, 6:07 pmActually we no need nlite. Since all the updates had done, the different just below 300mb.....But regular XP has all the feature but nlite version has chance for less feature....

i had just format it. Without update now, has 2.3G free space (after disable the paging since i has 1G RAM, disable system restore and clear system backup file, the sfc.exe /purgecache in command prompt)

Boot time is 47sec now (with Adobe Reader 8.1, FireFox, AVG Antivirus, CCleaner, and some software). after i update all the windows updates, will tell later.

1. After install all the Windows Update, will has 3xxMB left.

Disable the windows Restore will gain about 7xx-9xxmb
Paging File, disable it. Get Initial memory free space.
use CMD, open "sfc.exe /purgecache"

SSD is more durable than flash drive and even last more longer than HDD. Which Eee PC's SSD is MLC type and not SLC type which found on most of the flash drive in market.

Although it has read/write lifespan. But the Eee PC's SSD has dynamic wear leveling feature which is write the "busy" task to a buffer space before write into the SSD
目前EeePC SSD的控制IC是CF card改來用的, 有dynamic wear leveling功能, 會把寫入頻繁的記憶區塊跟空白區塊對調, 延長壽命.

Normally, the SLC type flash's lifespan can exceed 1million times write. But Eee PC's MLC type SSD's Dynamic wear leveling feature will balance the numbers Write-in for buffer space and SSD. And it will longer the lifespan.

_____________________________________________________

The main Advantage for SSD can found on the trip on bus in China (almost like roller coaster). which i can watch my movie (save in SSD+memory card) and never be stop or paused. Unlike the HDD laptops.

nop. It is stable than linux which builtin.

But, you had to stay with 800x480 or 800x600 resolution. Some of the application need 1024x768 and more, u need to use the simulate 1024x768 or even 1280x1024 that get from display properties.

i found out that it is same as my other lappy and desktop. still cant get error for my daily task and program i used.

Eee PC (701 model, 4G version)'s SSD is solder-type, not 1.8" or 2.5".
But we can upgrade it by put 1 mini PCI-E type SSD for it. But makesure your EEE behind the back cover has the mini PCI-E slot. Latest batch seem had no that slot. (8G version had use it for 8G SSD, But dun hv solder type SSD)

Yes. "On the Wifi" is much "hotter" than off the "Wifi + LAN erthernet used"

Off the Wifi and use erthernet is no heat at all.....

Hey guys..

just got my hands on this mini baby!!!! AWESOME.

I do have a few questions tho now sure if yuo guys encountered it before:

1. My LAN connection was working fine the other day but yesterdsay it kepts on giving me a "Network cable disconnected" then "Network cable plugged" then disconnects then reconnects back. I checked my other pC which are connected to the router and its working fine.

Any idea? - I notice its frequent when i go to sites like YouTube or any flash based websites / streaming....

2. where's the built in camera?  blush.gif

Cheers.

Yes. that's the problem i faced before and format afew time cause of it.

The Solution is,
1. Go Start>Control Panel>Network Connections>Local Area Connection (Mean is LAN connection)

2. Right Click it, choose "Configure...", click "Advanced" section.

3. Select "Media Type", and try "10Mbps Half Duplex" from "Auto", click ok.

4. Try again see the problem still exist.... (this problem only happen on my House AP, other place like office and hotel no problem....maybe router problem??)

From Asus VIP Forum
Try changing the LAN cable for a start than if the cable isn't the culprit, try to force 10Mbps Half Duplex in the properties of the Ethernet adapter (NIC). Power cycling the switch/router might help also.

It's not exactly a SSD lar.. it's a CF card. Like some ppl are running linux off pendrives.
SSDs have better performance in general than CF cards and pendrives.

Cant understand y it is not SSD as Samsung's demo clip shows....

can explain more?
