hi me wanted to buy a new psp slim, but got few question hope u guys can help me out n thx in advance.
how the quality of playing mp3? if use good quality earphone can improve it as like ipod? if continue play game or play mp3 how long can last? thx alot man.  smile.gif
*
Mp3 quality is really good when paired with a good headphone but still cant be as good as Ipod. You want quality as good as Ipod, go get an Ipod -___-
PSP is meant for multi purpose only, Gaming, Surfing net, mp3, video, emulators, play ps1 game, homebrew, pictures, whatever you want. Its the Walkman of the 21st century =P

@taeru
First, you must understand the concept of Bricking.
Bricking happens when you mess with the system files in the flash0 folder of the psp. When the files there aren't placed properly or replaced with different(and often) unusable or wrong version files, the PSP will brick. This is because when you start up the PSP, the machine is unable to read the files properly thus, not being able to start it up at all, that is what we call a BRICKed psp.
(of course, it goes more in depth, but im keeping it simple for ya) ^^

Now having understood that, it is clear to you that as long as you only mess with the files that are in your memory stick, it is likely you will not brick your psp.

That is the first precaution. Second is, make sure the homebrew program that are installed does NOT modify the flash0 files when you play them. You will need to take extra precaution when using these homebrews. Make sure for every homebrew you download, READ THE README!! That is the best advice I can give you.

I shall list down homebrews that MAY brick your psp(when handled wrongly):
Custom XMB
Custom Firmware Upgrades/downgrades

Don't think theres anymore than that. Those two are the most important.
Now you should be clear that msn for psp does not brick it no matter how you use it and yes those apps will require a wifi connection.
PSPradio enables you to listen to INTERNET RADIO not FM radio =P

Modifying bootscreen, game processing screen and xmb is ALL PART OF FLASH0 so very careful with that.
The reason slim bricks easier than older versions is because there are FEW custom xmb files for the latest firmware(3.71 M33-x) Thus when replacing wrong version files, as stated above, BRICK your psp will.

Hope that answered most of your questions. LEDs can be found any hardware shops, as long as you know some soldering and wiring electronics you will be able to hard mod your psp as well(not like me, geek, don't know soldering shyt) thumbup.gif

@Ryuuga

I personally thank you so much for having the patience to answer all of my questions above. Although I dont fully understand it in depthly (is that a word? lol), you gave me a rough idea on what I can and cant do. Personally, still scared to mod the XMB and startup screens tongue.gif.

Some new questions that might not be so new (prepare for noob questions)
a) what are custom firmwares (CFW)? I bought my pspslim at SCE and Im quite sure its modded. Are they the same thing, CFW and modded? Is it possible to run homebrews that are not of the same version on it? (as in v1.50 homebrew while using the v3.71 m33) because it seems that i cant use psptube for my slim sad.gif
b) when others are busy downgrading, why do ppl release CFW? summore is latest version? Sorry this is more of a logical question but i still cant figure it out.
c) http://www.decalgirl.com
Anyone knows where to get these besides buying online? smile.gif

Until now Im satisfied IF
a) my psp is able to watch Youtube
b) my psp is able to run MSN without the complicated typing stuff

how do most of you guys handle the bad typing template? Im getting faster but the setup is too annoying and frustrating.

What other homebrews do you guys install into your PSPs? This might be a bad thing to encourage homebrews lol.

EDIT: As i was wifi-ing with my psp today i realise i got an update for the 3.72 firmware. I havent updated it but please enlighten me on what to do!

a) if your fw has m33, then it is cfw.. not official sony fw

the network update is disabled in cfw, so that you will not make a mistake dl official fw which may brick your psps

b) previously not all latest cfw can play homebrews, and not all homebrew is direct upgrageable.
and with new cfw, comes new features

c) organize a bulk and save yourself some shipping cosst

YESSS that is correct...

in order to play games your TV must be able to transmit progressive scan video (for LCD/PLASMA) for CRT its only Interlaced so can only be used for playing movies/music

I plan on getting the composite TV out Cable (Yellow Red White) which I intend o use for movie watching when traveling and hooking it up to the hotel room TV. I dont think many hotels have LCD TV's as standard issue hehe tongue.gif

I plan to go with playing movies on LCD or CRT, hence would there be a difference if a local or original cable is to be used?

AFAIK,most lastest bigger TV(29" or 34") CRT also have progressive scan component input. Also, projection TV(43" above),some got progresive scan component input as well.Without the input,u can still use the RCA cable(yellow, red, white) to connect to normal TV,but only watching movies/video clips, not for games.

yes,i had a chapalang brand VGA box with component in>VGA out(1280x1024).U can connect the slim psp to it and output to ur PC monitor.I'm using a Dell 22"(1680x1050) monitor and the picture come out not so nice.It wont show at the centre of the monitor and the size is not full screen(same like u connect to TV).I tried on another small monitor with resolution of 640x480,the game display on centre of monitor but no full screen as well.I also found the signal not stable,on/off sometimes maybe due to "chapalang" brand of VGA box.

Had anyone try better VGA box and can display well in PC monitor especially 20" above WIDEscreen monitor?

U should also check the length of the cable.. I've heard that te original Sony TV-out is only 2m long hence to short for comfort.

I assume u did the UMD Mode configuration correctly (by default after CFW installation, u just need to change the UMD mode configuration and you're ready to go), the problem might lies in ur fake MSPD. if u have a fren who happen to own a psp, try to use his stick and see what happen. if problem persist, post it here maybe someone can help...
