Please educate me.

What most of you are saying. No going out. Ever. Except to go back to their home country. Must be at home from Monday to Sunday.

What is this? Modern slavery?

Thinking of getting one. I heard the Indo ones all run away. Being english speaker also is a plus.

Anybody wanna share experience? How much is the cost/expenses? How it has impacted your home/family?

We hired one early this year as we had a 3rd baby otw, and already have a 4yo and 2yo at that time.

Agency fee is going to range from around RM10k-15k

Salary minimum now is about RM1800, their contract bases the minimum wage in USD and not MYR. So if currency exchange is bad, the minimum wage goes up too.

Filipino in general have better English, but depending on where they are from; a lot of "common sense" things to us, is not to them. So have to be clear and detailed with the house rules. This is especially important for things like hygiene and safety.

So far ours is great with the kids, but when it comes to work task and organization always make small mistakes here and there. Quite annoying, but after a few discussions got improvement. Always expect the first 6 months or so to be high friction.

My biggest advice to you is choose the right agency, and I hope you're good at interviewing people. A lot of the candidates we interviewed were obviously lying or answering from a "script" of what the right answer should be. Automatically reject those candidates.

As for agency, we went with PinkCollar. They are quite different in the sense that they don't provide "warranty" and that to me was a plus. Warranty in the maid industry is a bloody scam. By not giving warranty and instead they are committed to solving issues you have with your DH shows they are willing to be responsible and accountable.

T&C, before employment already state clearly, dont agree, then dont sign

willing then take, not willing then go, there is no forcing
not all ppl like to go out, bcos go out they will need to spend for their own breakfast/lunch/dinner etc

I don't have a maid at all but I hired one local early educator who's 28 to help watch my two year old son while I'm at work and she will pick him and send him to his doctor/dentist/hair cut appointments.

Much much easier than hiring a maid.

Ok la, I share my experience. Although since it was so long ago, I may have forgotten some things.

When she first came, we did not allow her to have Sunday off, not exactly an issue with Indonesian maids. Still isn't actually. We bring her out when we go out for dinner and we always try to keep an eye on her. At one point we were thinking of a cctv lol. All valuables in locked drawers or the safe at all times.

Then you start to relax after a while. You are ok with leaving her alone for increasingly longer periods of time.

Once you get past the 2-3 year mark, she starts to become like part of the family.

Nowadays, if my daughter is working and it is just us, we just bring her along when we go to the supermarket or something. Although most of the time she just asks us to tapau something for her la. She has a big house back in Indonesia and usually asks us to go with her on a trip back. Maybe next round la.

You know what most of the warranty agencies do? they just cycle the maids.

So you just replace one f`ked up maid with another.

I asked before, the agency said that they will usually hire out as daily paid workers, or temporary maids.

My time, is they have a list like resumes, then they will arrange a time when you can come over and interview the maid. The agent advised me at that time to leave everything to do with that part to my wife to prevent any problems later on. I still remember lol.

Not sure now they have zoom meetings or not lol.

My experience has been good. 7 years and counting. She had worked in Middle East previously where the employer was quite tough. Cost of hiring a new maid every two years is well over RM10k. So I'm more than happy to share the savings with her every time she renews contracts via salary increases. Most successful bosses will advise you to pay more to keep good staff happy. I practice the same at home too. Maid salary at your discretion. I would suggest RM2K+ a month. Don't forget Filipino maid must pay monthly SOCSO now as the embassy will ask for proof later. This is legally required since 2022, but I'm told that the Indonesian embassy so far hasn't checked. Other costs such as meals also at your discretion. Can be low RM100 per week, can be much higher too if maid follows out for meals and shares same food. Impact on home & family is highly positive.
