tested my first work out. 11minutes of weight lifting, burnt 76 calories. I know it's not a proper work out, but it's something ^^;

pressed the quick orange button, select the work out (other exercises), then did some weights.

Guidelines for bpm target
https://stepzfitness.com.au/ideal-heart-rat...-stepz-fitness/

with the watch it helped me a rough idea where i am at, so i don't over do or under perform.

A while back in the news, someone died using threadmill. they probably did not know they were over doing it. this watch will alert you when you are out the safety zone. Not sure i'd 100% trust it, but it's at least something.

speaking of the alarm, i tested the water lock, unlock, and wow... the noise is too audible. They really need to let you adjust the sound volume for it. For personal use in the public pool a lower volume or just simply a vibration would have suffice. Heads will turn i tell you laugh.gif

yeah i'm ok with the weight.

But technically it is heavier than the galaxy 7

galaxy 7 = 33.8 g (44mm), 28.8 g (40mm) (1.02 oz)

VS

galaxy ultra = 60.5 g (2.15 oz)

For inactivity alerts go here

https://www.reddit.com/r/GalaxyWatch/commen...n_settings_can/

e.g. 9am to 5pm , if it detects inactivity for 1 hour, it will remind you.

outside these hours it won't alert you. e.g. your asleep etc.

during the setup i got prompted that lte by my telco is not supported. but i'm not using esim so not sure if that was why it didn't work. You guys can check if ur telco lte work with it or not. Afaik you need esim.

That said even if you don't set that up, you can still receive sms on watch from phone. Both for whatsapp and also regular sms. I didn't try phone call, i'll do that later.

But basically if you setup lte on the watch, you can make it a stand alone phone, when you don't have access to your smartphone for some odd reason hmm.gif

Anyway i disabled lte, not using that and it's a big battery drain.

day 1 sleep.

7 hours 22 minutes. I think that roughly correct. sleep score 82, guess that's good for me xd

Just before you sleep, just select the sleep mode. Your watch aod turns off (probly also battery saver features as well, though not sure). You can't wake it unless you deliberately press the button. So you don't have to worry about accidentally turning it on at night while asleep.

In the indepth sleep stats you can see your sleep stages, which i got 4 which is normal. It even shows your duration for awake, rem, light, deep. But i don't have the equipment like quantified scientist did. So i can only assume it's more or less correct. But it's rather interesting to see these stats.

You don't get your animal badge until 7 days of sleep records.

ages is light orange. If you click "i" it suggests how to improve this score.

energy score 62 fair. i think that is about right. i don't feel too crappy or feel like superman either. more or less accurate.

stress level in the green. Makes sense cauz i'm well rested.

One thing they said you should do before breakfast is run the body composition around this time.

You can navigate from your watch, but since my S24 Ultra is right in front of me, i prefer checking via the phone because it's got a bigger screen and you can see your options in one place rather than swipe through on watch. When i'm away from phone only then i'd use the watch. So i can run the tests from phone and the watch will run the measurement, perfect. it's a very seamless experience.

battery is 54% It was roughly 70-80% i think before i went to bed. Also it's still learning my patterns so have to wait a week or 2 before it adjusts battery to my usage.

Full tear down of the Galaxy Ultra devil.gif

7/10 repairability score from ifixt.

seems they can access the watch through the back. The battery looks like it may be replaceable.

But the question is, how do you reseal it with all the water proofing stuff which you mess up when you first open it? hmm.gif

It's not like your battery will just drop dead the next day. also you can always send it to samsung for repair if needed at some point. Not sure if they do battery replacements.

That Athleisure band good for workout esp hiit sweating and circuit?
Read the desc said it is resistant to sweat and water. For now am using Samsung Extreme Sports band for my W7 for more airflow.

not sure since i don't have either of those. They both seem to be some sort of cloth type fabric wrist band of that sort.

The one i am using is the default ultra marine wrist band (mines black)
https://www.samsung.com/my/mobile-accessori...et-snl70mkegww/

*look at the price if you bought this separately. about RM400. Most of the cost probably the titanium metalic parts laugh.gif On shopee/aliexpress you can get something that looks almost the same for far less.

https://www.sammobile.com/news/how-much-do-...tch-bands-cost/

hmm.gif

I used it all day and slept with it, it's very comfortable, doesn't bother me. I had a decent sleeping score so that should be proof enough. Also did at least 2 exercises on 2 separate days (weight lifting and some ab crunches), it's fine.

My other band a peakform white, hasn't arrived yet. no rush sweat.gif But that one too is of similar material to the ultra marine more or less, just slightly different. will report how that one goes. It's also a different color.

I don't have the gray/orange as reference other than youtube, but using the silver/black strap in person, i am really liking it and thkful i got this. It might be bland and too common a color scheme, but it works for me.

later i may order a stainless steel wrist band for more casual wear that is not sports related for outings.

Was considering getting a charger stand to use the existing samsung wireless charger with watch. But using as is, it still charges fine, so maybe not needed, though it would be much neater looking.

Samsung's Sleep Apnea feature has FDA approval

This is the first feature of its kind that has been provided authorization by the FDA in the United States. This means that Galaxy Watch 7 and Watch Ultra owners can use the Samsung Health Monitor app to detect signs of sleep apnea by just tracking their sleep twice for over four years in a ten-day period.

Meant for users over the age of 22, the sleep apnea feature can help with detecting signs of moderate to severe OSA after a two-night monitoring period. Obstructive sleep apnea is a very common sleep condition that typically goes undetected. It's a chronic condition that can cause a person to stop breathing when they're asleep.

This may result restriction to the oxygen supply and poor sleep quality. If sleep apnea goes untreated, it may increase the risk of heart diseases such as cardiac arrhythmia and stroke. The National Sleep Foundation estimates that around 25% of men and 10% of women in the United States get OSA.

That's a considerable number, with many not getting treated in time as the condition goes undiagnosed. The sleep apnea feature on the new Galaxy Watch models ensures that people can proactively detect OSA and get the medical assistance they require to reduce any potential complications.

well the watch for me just brings the health stuff to my attention and gives me more incentive to work out more, since i feel like i can better track my progress better and also know if i am in the hbpm zone for a good work out.

But if you're not the type that likes these things, then i don't recommend the watch for those people. The watch is mostly for users who want better tracking and some general help to improve their overall health. You still need to put in the work for exercise and diet, but the watch helps you.

whether it's worth rm2k with evoucher, maybe not (its 3k without voucher which is a limited time deal). But i can afford it and it's for my health so i'm fine with that. If you are more tight on budget then the galaxy 7 would be ok as well (rm 1k with evoucher 200 off). But if you want to go even cheaper, there the older galaxy watches or other brands for half that, but whether it's accurate or not *shrug sweat.gif

some suggestions for apps. So far i only installed spotify and google maps.

Music on the watch works great. Sign in on your galaxy smartphone, then it connects to your watch so you don't have to sign in again. Music works good but obviously not as good as on the S24 Ultra speakers. But it's decent enough.

Googlemaps is very convenient. You can see a route, then it directs you with arrows and distance etc to reach your location goal. It's basically like Waze but on your wrist. Actually you can even using it while driving as well, but keep your eye on the road sweat.gif

Was testing the speakers playing music via youtube.

to get youtube (for videos) to work, you had to do it in a roundabout manner. You can't simply install youtube (they only have youtube music). Instead you install the samsung browser, then from there there is a shortcut to youtube, click that. Only then you can use it. Weird sweat.gif

I got locally backed up video for exercise routines, but not sure how to use video player from nas to watch, so for now i'll just save videos into youtube playlist and run them from there. Unless someone has a trick for this hmm.gif

*update

at 30% it says 1 hour 12minutes until full ohmy.gif

my S24 ultra using sfc 2.0 only takes 20 minutes to go from 30 to 80%

ty bru for the reco.

for whatsapp i could live without it on watch. but i don't always bring the smartphone with me all the time. so having the watch show me my whatsapp on hand is neat. so i kept it.

shazam, i also installed this. it's very easy access and convenient to find the songs. killer feature. if you are not a music person then don't bother xd.

not sure about SimpleWear, i'll check it out ty notworthy.gif

fyi i'm testing charging watch to 80% and drain to 30% before charging it back. will see if that works well or not. But there is the drain bug issue..... wish the firmware gets released soon x-x; ugh...

phone your smartphone. the watch will also have the phone alert, u click the answer call on phone.

didn't see a end call. so went to settings, for gestures setup double pinch, and also the shake wrist to dismiss.

this ended call.

if you are in public, don't use the watch cauz it's on loud speaker laugh.gif though maybe can adjust so output goes through a headset or something? i didn't test.

sleep apnea feature in software seems to be missing for the Malaysia galaxy ultra watch.

it would be found in the samsung health app on watch. it's missing.

use the bottom scroller, click the circle see what apps running in background and disable. dont disable everything though. the health stuff leave those on.
