Really depends on your usage. I have both civic ketam and current gen city hatch, for most of my KL city drive i prefer to drive the hatch as it is easier to fit into parking spaces especially at shop lot area. For proper shopping mall or my regular office parking, only i'd take the civic out.

Of coz when ferrying the whole family out for dinner or outstation trips, the civic will be best for space, comfort and also safety.

Civic will consume slightly more petrol per km... the larger 17" on the civic will have more choices on performance tyre selection... rear suspension of civic is multilink vs torsion on the city... better ride and handling!

if Civic ketam, then can consider. any older, not worth it.

but nothing beats a new car with warranty and all. peace of mind for the next few years. while 2nd hand car is a luck of the draw.

Civic ketam with the turbo? Sadly no, it is not recommended even by my mechanic for used as a lot are abuse quite badly and most seller sell it after fail CVT gearbox, engine or mods. Just try to get to know who is the previous owner if in mid 20~30's mostly are abused badly.

If you ask me the only model can buy is either the ketam 1.8L N/A version (sadly quite low spec.) or previous gen with the 2.0 N/A i-VTEC (K20Z2) engine, the 2.0 i-VTEC are the real gem in civic generation and mostly bullet proof engine & gearbox (still using 5-speed auto).

2nd hand civic, but prefer u get from direct owner so that you know more about the car history and condition.

i think you can try join civic fc facebook group and you can look from there, some owners letting go their baby, if you wanna take loan you might need to get a 2nd hand dealer to help you to process it, might cost around 3k or 4k for all the fees and handlings.

the thing about 2nd hand is 70% luck

Even the 2020/2021 that still under warranty also not recommended? Because I'm looking for 2020/2021 one, just need to check with SC whether the warranty voided or not and history of maintenance etc.

Nop, the purchase for used unit especially for 1.5 turbo engine risk is high.
If the previous owner mod and found any non-original parts, the warranty = nothing.

City hatchback owner here. Since I got the city, not even once I wish I went for used civic fc instead. I'm happy with my purchase.

At most I only cruise around 140 km/h at highway. City's 1.5 NA engine is more than capable of doing that. As for torque, the paddle shifter is very useful to cover the lack of turbo. Just downshift when overtaking and I get more torque for 10-15 seconds.

But if you plan to fit 5 people often, get civic instead of city. City's middle rear seat is higher than left and right, making it uncomfortable for long distance.

yours is which spec? V - Sen?

civic is infamous for the steering rack issues.

plus for those models with turbo, also more risk of failing part. I'd say get the new city

I dunno others, I test drove Civic Ketam 1.5T a few times, good and satisfy with its pickup.

Recently test drove new City RS showroom unit at city area, the car was stubborn slow unless press more then it slowly accelerate, maybe need to press more or fully throttled only enough. It reminded me those old bulky continental car from 1980s and 1990s of slow acceleration.

V spec.

At first planned to get RS because of the marketed "253nm torque". But during test drive, I can't feel that extra torque at all, maybe it's just a marketing ploy.

I choose V over V-sensing because I not confident with honda sensing. Heard too much story of it doing false positive.

I know right? They marketed it as having 253nm torque, which would make it a godly B segment car. But during test drive, it feels more sluggish than the petrol version which supposedly has lower torque. sweat.gif

If reliable car is your first priority then better take new City rather than used Civic. Btw H reliability isn't reliable compare to its rival T. If power is not your first priority then maybe can look at Vios. Some argue interior looks like Perodua but the quality is different. In term of comfort I believe Vios is more comfortable than City and also better handling, meanwhile City is better in power output.

Honda all these while sell is its higher hp engine in similar category, you never heard that buy Honda is to buy his engine technology while the car body is option/by-products? Engine is their strength, while others so-so...

Powerful engine is surely syiok when accelerating but how often we use full power or 50% of the engine power? I own a VW GTI with over 200hp for my daily drive, honestly 90% of time I don't even use 50% of the power during city or highway drive. Of course with full load I will step harder to gain more power but it is quite rare. However good chassis which give good handling, well balance of comfort and body roll make more sense because we can feel it even in low speed.

depends on the person driving/owning the car i guess.

it's just like spare tires, foldable rear seats, fog lamps. our average use, we dun really use these things. but when you remove it from the (new) car entirely, now we feel something is missing. that 1-2 times in a year that we wanna use it, we lament the lack of it.

same goes to power in the car. daily driving probably have no need for it, but when i need it (to overtake cars in a busy highway due to lane hogger in the middle lane, or exiting a junction or just accelerating with a full load of passengers), i appreciate the car when it does have it.

that being said, i won't sacrifice everything just for the 1 thing. best car is really a car that performs averagely well in most aspect.

like so much power, but stiff ride until back pain, is pointless
super comfy ride but with the acceleration of a bus, also kinda pointless.
and everything good, but have parts commonly give out within 2-3 years of usage, also kinda pointless.

that's my take on cars

but i think honda not THAT big an issue if you don't abuse the car? used car takes away that peace of mind because you have no idea how hard the previous owner abuse the powertrain.
