Malaysia use to have Bossini but many many years didn't have edi. As for the cha charn teng, we go there not for the cheap price, but because we want to try local food. Don't want to waste time eat at McD or those fancy restaurants that serve international food. Only the older generations waiters are rude, the ones with young people are much more friendlier. Nothing to do with cheap prices lor, their attitude is like that lor.

I came back from HK liao but chapped lips won't heal so fast ma.
*
cha charn teng culture is like that... no method.. I also said even local customers they also treat us the same way...

then you're so lucky to have try the real winter weather in HK 'coz these days no longer cold la... sad.gif HK will eventually have no winter in the future...

Please check the #1 post, I remember I've added a budget hotel chain last month.

Please don't ask me which hostel/guesthouse is clean and safe or not, becoz I am not staying in any hostel/guesthouse in HK. I can only advise you about location of it, about the quality, really have to rely on word of mouth from all the fellow traveller forumers here.... I suggest Dragon Guesthouse just becoz one of forumers stayed there and said it's nice, other guesthouses I really don't know.

Hope other forumers who have ever stayed in any hostel/guesthouse in HK please share some comments, cheers~

Call Airasia and ask Tony why he pulled back the plan lor... I also don't know ga?!?! But I don't think such a BIG budget airline would just pull back something they've announced to the public.

guys...i'm planing to go macau on end of feb...went HK at 2006 but didnt hv enuff time to go macau...is macau onli really worth visiting like HK?
i'm not a gambler...onli shopping and side-seeing...

do u guys think i still can used my old(2006) oxtopus card? got around 1k credit left...balance from last visit...

how far is shen zheng fr macau?? is shen zheng good for shopping?
*
No, Macau is not like HK, I can say it's only 1/3 - 1/4 size of HK. Maximum 3 days can finish whole Macau for sight-seeing. NO shopping at all!! I couldn't find any shopping "mall" there.

Yes, Octopus card doesn't have expiry date. You got HK$1000 in the card?!?!

Far to go to Shenzhen from Macau. People will only go to Zhuhai from Macau, not Shenzhen. Go Shenzhen better from HK, closer about 1hr something by train.

Macau is not the place for shopping, but for historical traveling and foods...and of course casino but you're not interested. laugh.gif

I use Octopus card everyday also never got HK$1000 in it... sweat.gif The highest amount I used to top up is HK$500 only, good enough to use for more than 2 weeks of working day already.. tongue.gif

QUOTE(sissonne @ Jan 13 2008, 07:34 PM)
just got back from HK and Macau...
so not used in Macau after traveling for days in HK...especially no MTR sad.gif

Also, tried the most popular egg tart from Margaret Cafe and pork bun from Taipa Village. The egg tart was not served warm/hot, maybe they've gotten so popular that they got to prepare alot...The pork bun tasted okay-nice but be prepared to queue up for it once they start at 3PM. I find that food in Macau is generally slightly more expensive, maybe the area that I stayed at has all the nearby casinos sad.gif

Ahh, lastly, love shopping in HK. Oh got to be careful of the Malaysian custom when you all come back to KL. I think they target flights like HK/Macau to harp on people that smuggle back electronic items.
*
I have similar thoughts that Macau things seems more expensive than HK one... but not very special.. tongue.gif The egg tarts they sold were not putting on a warming plate? Some HK's bakery shops do put egg tarts under warming lamp/warming plate, so when you buy the tarts, they are still freshly crispy on the crust and warm silky texture in the custard!! thumbup.gif

I guess the custom mainly target on those carrying a lot of luggages. For me, everytime I only carry 1 normal size trolley suitcase and travel alone, everytime no custom bother me when I go to KL, heheee... biggrin.gif

QUOTE(giotto @ Jan 13 2008, 08:03 PM)
I was in HKG last December. Thoroughly enjoyed my stay there and the weather was fantastic, chilly but lil dry. Definitely need a windbreaker if you intend to go there during their soft winter period.

Visited most of the places i wanted to but i must say Disneyland is probably the most dissapointing. Really don't know why people are raving over it. The Peak was a nice place to visit and Madam Tussaud's wax musuem is worth a visit and the view from the peak is simply fabulous. I visited both in the day time and night time and its really beautiful. And then i visited Repulse Bay and saw some of the rich and famous houses, then proceeded to see this Aberdeen fishing village. An eye opener if you ask me. Can see people living in those fishing boats and of coz the Jumbo floating restaurant.

As for food, nothing beats eating the real HKG food in HKG. Their serving is huge but the price is also huge. For Malaysians, we'd probably be shocked but when you're holidaying, don't let the price tag keep you away from trying new things. But of coz must be reasonable la. The egg tart is nice, Polo bun is nice and of coz tried various noodles and rice. And please don't compare Malaysia's Kim Gary to HKG's authentic food coz Kim Gary's food is very much localised in the sense it suits Malaysians taste bud.

In short, its worth a visit and no wonder HKG ranks one of the top in tourist destination.
*
Thanks very much for your sharing!! notworthy.gif Very precise and objective opinion & advice~ thumbup.gif

Winter weather in HK is now very fluctuate due to global warming, not everyday as cold as the period when you come throughout the winter. We just have a very very warm week last week. So anyone who's gonna visit HK, please do check the weather forecast website that I posted on #1 post.

Can't agree you anymore!! thumbup.gif This is what I always say to forumers here and my Malaysian friends~ biggrin.gif

I'd stayed in HK Budget Hostel last Sept. Although the room is small but its clean and very convenient. I think all the other hostel size should be the same since its in the same building. I totally love this hostel although its small as it's very strategically located opposite the 'Lady Street' and very close to MTR.

However, please note that the toilet/bathrom is very small.

I will definitely stay here again if I am to go HK again!
*
Budget hotel/hostel/guesthouse in HK are always very small ga la.. Just like those business hotels in Tokyo, 'coz land is expensive, budget hotel can't build a large room otherwise how to make profit? It's relatively cheap already, can't expect too much.. clean, tidy and safe is ok already~ smile.gif

there are a lot of budget hostels in chongqing building 重庆大厦 located in tsim sha chue 尖沙咀 just 100m from MTR station. rate from HK200-350 per night. it's a residance converted commercial building. rooms with attached bathroom and quite clean but the environment kinda scary a bit.

you see lots of africans, indians, pakistaneses live there. but they are quite friendly as well if you greet them.
*
Chongqing Building and Maridor Mansion in Tsim Sha Tsui also got many hostels and guesthouses. Yep, the problem is the Indian/Pakistani/African downstairs.. Me locals also avoid to walk thru that area 'coz they are quite scaring and annoying, always ask you to eat curry... rclxub.gif

Yes... I'm fine with the room rates .... I always feel that we don really have much time in the room when we go travelling. We will only be in the room for sleep... so no use book big rooms and waste money for accommodation....

I rather get a cheaper but comfortable room and use the money for food or shopping...

Thats why i will definitely stay there again in furtue if I go HK again hehe....
*
Yep, can't agree with you anymore~ nod.gif When I travel to Japan, I always book the cheapest hotel with very small room and bed then spare more budget on shopping, eating and touring instead! Actually it depends on the nature/destination of your trip la, say, if you are honeymooning or your destination is more on a relax one(e.g. sun and beach, island hoping), then the size/decor of the hotel is more important lor.. I always judge by this when I need to plan accomodation for my trip~ biggrin.gif

I'm going to Hk next year ...haha... yea NEXT year, 2009.
and 4 of us are planning to go there around 2 weeks. Due to the reason that all of us are going under a budget, so we've started planning now to make sure that we will get everything well organised.

i've been seaching online for a decent hostel or a hotel with cheaper rate and i came across this hotel in Jordan , WEST HOTEL.

http://www.westhotel.com.hk/

It looks good and with reasonable rates. Family suite for 14 consecutive nights cost only HKD 7140. around RM 3000 for 4 person.

As i'm not too familiar with the accomodations in HK, i would like to get some opinions from fellow lowyat forumers. what do u guys think about it?

thank you
*
The location is quite convenient and the rate is fairly reasonable too. But this rate is valid for this year only, you gotta check the latest rate later at year end...

fiolsn,

Turbo jet - depart/arrive at Central (HK side)
First New - depart/arrive at Tsim Sha Tsui (Kowloon side), I've also written it on my #1 post already.

Charlie Brown Cafe.. from the pics shown here should be the Tsim Sha Tsui branch. They also have another branch in Mongkok too.

Hi dream.angels,

Don't worry, your friends' info is outdated for ages already. Some shops and restaurants are open even on Chor 1. On Chor 4 the whole population in HK starts to work, it doesn't make sense that shops & restaurants are closed lor... Actually restaurants should be open during the whole CNY, and most shops are closed on Chor 1 only.

Not really cold during CNY nowadays. In the past, yes, mostly the weather was damn cold in CNY but we had warm CNY these 2 years... global warming and climate changed... weather tends to fluctuate a lot.

12-17'c is right, but some areas will be lower than 12'c, e.g. new territories 'coz less population. Do you think 12'c is warm?? 12'c is cold enough for you to wear down jacket!! I am "frozen" at home now... No matter what hot beverage I drink I still feel damn damn cold!! >_<
